I have both and they definitely sound different even though they share the same pickups and hardware. The strat is a lot darker and thicker while the tele has a brighter, snappier sound. I love how the tele looks, but I really prefer the sound and playability of the strat.
Loved the video and playing. Great review. Really good layout and information. I’ve owned the Jazzmaster, Strat and Tele. I sold them all and getting the Tele again ha ha. Similar to you, I’m not an active guy but love how these play. Once again, good work.
Nice review. It would have been nice to hear isolated tones of each guitar in each pickup position, both clean and dirty. I definitely want to check out the Tele...I love the white/black combo and streamlined controls. I, too, prefer passive pickups...and out of all the ones I've tried or heard...it's the Duncan JB and the Dimarzio Dominion that sound the best to my ears. For the neck position, I gotta go with the Dimarzio 36th PAF, Bluesbucker, or Duncan Phat Cat. That said, I do also love the tone of EMG 81 and 85. The 57 is also cool. And you know what...the newer Retro-Active Hot 70s sound really good. And since EMGs are solderless, you could make a switch to try those quite easily. Cheers.
You’re not wrong in the tele neck feeling fatter. I owned the tele like 3 times but let them all go. And when I see one again, I want it again lol. I think I just need to change the pickups. I also owned the strat and they are both very nice. Wish the strat had dot inlays as well. I had to file my fret ends in my dry winters and like I mentioned in another video is that I found the strat fret ends weird. They look normal, like it’s just part of the fretboard but very lightly run one of your fingernails through and it indents very easily. That would be gone if refretted anyway.
exactly the review i was looking for...i own the tele and after your review i want the strat. interesting that you said if you could only have one you would want the tele. when you a/b the two i thought the strat sounded more to my liking and the fact that you said the strat has a smaller feeling neck is appealing to me as well.
I have the Tele and love it, but the only thing that’s bothered me is the fret work- glad I’m not crazy thinking that lol. I have two other guitars that are half the price- a Joe Duplantier sig Charvel (lowest priced model of his 3 sig models) and a Schecter C-1- and both have much better fret work in my opinion. Like you said, it’s a fairly easy fix, but also not a fix I was wanting to make on a $1,200+ guitar. Still absolutely love it though 🤷🏻♂️
I liked the the song you demod both songs on. I learned on a stratocaster and have to say even with those EMG 81 and 60 pickups it still has round rich sound that only stratocaster can give..I have the EMG 81 and 85 in a Schecter C-1 Platinum and it sounds Completely different than either one of these guitars. For anybody who wants a strat with those active pickups I would definitely recommend this guitar. Either the Tele or especially the Strat. I also like the fact they don't have tone controls.
Haven’t watched all the way, but one thing I never liked was when sound tests have backing. I prefer having a outlying sound test with no backing… awesome video though! Not too big of a deal!
Ya drop B. No tabs unfortunately (dont have time to tab out my riffs and not many would want them anyways lol). You can hear it a bit more clearly in the demo song of this video if you want another view of it: ua-cam.com/video/I5DhOy7q-A8/v-deo.html
Great video I own the tele it’s funny I play it more than any other guitar I own and your right this ain’t your dads tele I’m not a fan of the EMGs either but the do the Job
Emperor's new clothes. Anyone who believes there's an obvious tonal difference is only fooling themselves. Fret work doesn't equate to a tone difference. It's an aesthetic thing. Some like Strats, some prefer Tele styling.
There is an obvious clear difference in tone. Maybe you need better speakers, headphones or... Ears. Telecaster are known for that twangy sound anyway. It's not just the pickups. I could A and B both with my eyes closed in my sleep and tell you which is which any day.
Really well structured video, exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!
Cheers. Thanks for watching!

Agreed
i disagree its just cosmetic
@@morganreactingtoamusic Right. With an explanation as clear and detailed as that, how can we deny it.
Can we just appreciate how clean the cuts are in that opening track as you switch the two guitars around 🎬❤
Haha thanks man, appreciate it
Personally I think there is barely any difference but it is cool to see two different body shapes and they are both really cool looking guitars.
Ya they’re great! Can’t go wrong with either.
Great video as usual man! Love your style of presentation, and the production is always really well done, along with solid playing.
Keep that shit up!
Thanks dude, I appreciate the kind words!
The tele has more chunk in chugs and its highs dwell longer. I was rooting for the strat but Tele sounded better.
The Strat definitely “feels” better but I still prefer the Tele. I’m going to get the frets taken care of eventually. It’s great other than that.

Thanks for the kind words, much appreciated. Cheers!
Maybe I just got lucky with the Strat having such a clean neck joint!
Thanks for a solid review. I went with the tele. 😊

Too late for me to do a further isolated demo, Strat was sold!
Nunca pensé que iba a sonar mejor la telecaster. Increible!💪

Ya totally man. The Tele is great but that fretwork is rough as hell. Haha
0:27 - 1:33
it was smoothest transition i've seen
Great video man ,I was really wondering whats the difference
Thanks! Glad it was helpful. Cheers!
Damn, these are cool guitars...
aren’t they. i have the Tele but i would trade it for the Strat in a heartbeat
I made it to the end of the video. I give a sht! I’d pick the stratocaster because of the neck feels.
You should try out the emg 57/66 combo if your into a passive vibe.i was a dual 81 guy til I tried out the 57/66 set

@@ScottBynoe The pleasure is all mine.

My Jim Strat in white is very worn out... down to the wood where my picking forearm rests.
The Strat is my Dream guitar....ichave one with double humbucker...
Any chance of getting that tab? I would really like to run through that. Drop B?

Hey I actually like your music. Very rare for a UA-camr.
Thanks!
Great video I own the tele it’s funny I play it more than any other guitar I own and your right this ain’t your dads tele I’m not a fan of the EMGs either but the do the Job
Ya, EMGs definitely get the job done. Don’t love them but also don’t hate them. Thanks for watching!
I like the goofy ass strat headstock so that's my choice XD
The tele definitely sounds more dark, the strat is a lil more sparkly on the top end.. however they both sound excellent
Actually it's the complete opposite? 😮
You need to do a blind sound test
Good song and tone!!!
I personally prefer the telly, but in black 🤘🏽
Thank you!
I see a gap between the neck and body on the tele. That’s not good
ya totally, it has a couple little rough spots here and there....fretwork was garbage too
Telecaster ❣️❣️❣️❣️😌😌
The Tele definitely sounds better

ps: I also have this exact guitar(Telle).
It's always the same, over all, if you want the best bank for your buck just buy Mexican made Fenders
For sure. Easy to make upgrades to them also.
cool
no difference. its about how you playem
The ware on these guitars is deliberate. Jim did that intentionally.
