Bill Cullen developed polio as a toddler and had a permanent limp for the rest of his life. A number of years ago, I read that the decision to hide Bill’s limp was actually made by him when he started on television in the early 1950’s. There are times that you can briefly see him walk - this is especially true on the old syndicated version of To Tell the Truth with Garry Moore. The panelist are introduced one by one and even though they tried to show Bill walking from the waist up, you can tell he does have a pronounced limp. But I think Bill made the decision to not show his limp. Therefore, it was not a requirement made by Goodson-Todman or the networks.

Bill Cullen did an amazing job subsituted for Allen Ludden on PP,while he was subsitute for Allen Ludden on PP,Geoff Edwards subsituted for Bill Cullen on Chain Reaction on NBC,which he hosted it later on the USA Network.did a great job.

bill cullen was an amazing host. he really seemed to love his job and meeting new people. though the camera had to cover up his issues with walking and such most didn't know. other than maybe noticing why he was already in poition most of time. i ownder on a show like this how they got him over to the alphabetics area. or did they explain it to the crowd then just not elevise him going over? anyways he was a fine host and from what i've heard nad read a wonderful person. well loved by pretty much everyone. Hope he was a christian and is in heaven so i can meet him some day
Most shows didn't put him on camera walking. Some shows he hosted, he was already seated when the show began or was just a step off camera and had a short walk to the podium. Mel Brooks once said he was on Bill's show "Eye Guess" and saw Bill walking and thought he was doing it for comedy, so Mel started walking funny. Bill thought Mel was doing shtick and actually told Mel he was the first comedian to ever spoof his walk and thought others tried to ignore it and Bill felt left out of the fun.
Like on pyramid with Dick Clark anytime he was a celebrity he was always sitting but time for winners circle they’d take a commercial break while off camera he probably walk to the winners circle off due to his polio the networks probably didn’t want to embarrass him

I’m always fascinated with the measures that game show producers took to hide Bill Cullen’s disability.
Honestly pretty sad. He should be allowed to openly and proudly show his disability and not have to hide it.

It was Bill Cullen’s request. Ever show he was on did whatever they had to to help Bill keep his condition confidential.

Elaine Joyce was to lose her husband, Bobby Van, three months later from cancer.
That would explain how she could miss "Jingle Bells"!
How the hell are you supposed to get finch?
"Bird. "Gold..."
"Actor." "Peter...."
The perfect clue came to me right away: "Atticus -"
Im just watched that
