They weren't yet in a position where they could just skip footage that didn't work for the plot, because 1) there was no plot and 2) there was no budget. But this is definitely one of PR's weaker adaptation attempts.
They probably regurgitated him so incessantly because he looked cool and got underutilized in his actual episode; also, access to an insta-demorph attack is always a prized commodity.
Technically they did have the Dora Spinhix/King Spinhix suit but it didn’t get used at all in MMPR it was used in Big Bad Beetleborgs as a background prop at the comic book store.
The "monster arrives in human disguise to mess with the Rangers, then changes to monster form for the fight scene" gimmick seems to be a staple of the Japanese show that never fully made the jump to America. I always figured that the PR writers tried it on a couple early episodes, then decided they just couldn't make it work and gave up. Probably after the clown monster (I hated that episode), although that's still a bit later, so who knows.
I'd have loved to see the Rangers react to Rita's plan succeeding here. "Rita now controls the park. We don't know what she plans to do with it, so we've got to regroup and find a way to take it back from her."
A rewrite of "A Pressing Engagement" Jason is trying to set the record like in the episode, but he says out loud how his friends are getting in his way, Rita hears this, and says something to the effect of "don't worry Jason I'll grant your wish, your friends will never bother you again!" cut to Billy's garage (where he and Trini are working on the radbug that will be formally introduced in a few episodes time) King Sphinx (using zyuranger footage and then cheesy reaction shot with a wavy effect of Billy and Trini) makes Billy and Trini dissappear, replaced by little blue and yellow tubes. Cut to youth centre, keep the scene with the other 3 rangers, bulk and skull high jinks and the funny bit where Ernie hears their communicator. Zordon calls the Rangers telling them Billy and Trini have been captured by King Sphinx and they are in the park. Fight ensues with the Rangers, Sphinx makes Kimberly dissappear, then Zack, two more tubes appear, leaving Jason all alone. He is sent to the quarry to fight Sphinx alone, he has to fight alone and realises how much he is struggling and needs his friends and feels bad about what he said earlier, he locates the coloured tubes, and summons his friends back, cut to just before the Rangers flash onto the scene a morphing sequence, then the episode plays out the same. Cue in a little coda about how Jason appreciates his friends. Yeah it's not perfect, but it makes much more sense then the original while keeping the early feel of Mighty Morphin
I love Bandora. Honestly there is a lot to love about her, including how despite being a villain she cares a lot for the Bandora Gang, more episodes later will show this but her dynamic is more interesting than being a screamer like Rita, and I love Rita and all but you can tell the sheer experience of Machiko Soga in the role. Woman is so legendary at being a toku villainess she became the high authority of white magic on Magiranger so being a villain pays dividends.
Usually Sentai (and Japanese media) prefer to use one archetype of a villain. This big worldending threat that can annihilate whole armies by moving a hand erasing them from existance. They use their minions and companions only as tools and often as shield. Bandora is total opposite. She's an Old Lady who just wanna have fun and keeps grudge against heroes and pity things.
@@Drums_of_Liberation someone should organize a thing at the next Power Morphicon to get Barbara Goodson to sing it. She does occasionally do the Rita voice, just recently she did part of Kim Guilfoyle's speech that was memed all over awhile ago.
What is the weight Jason is trying to bench? Also, heavy benching involves a lot of confidence and deep focus. They could have gone with that angle. I'm nitpicking, haha. This is a great series. Keep em cominf.
The thing about the Guardian Beasts in Zyuranger is, they're huge dicks. This will become far more apparent when we get to the big multi-parters later on. Take my word for it for now when I say the Guardian Beasts are NOT always right. In fact, more often than not they're WAY OFF.
The Megazord fight being reused from episode 1 makes more sense in the original pilot, where King Sphinx (there named Fly Guy) was sent down to fight the rangers with Goldar.
the mmpr plot had potential but not done right. Zyurangers did make some sense tho yeah not much build-up and was to soon might have worked best if they did it later in the series. King sphinx did seem more dangerous then Dora sphinx. tho yeah zyurangers plot was darker. granted MMPR plot of the episode was flawed but they got better. .
I've Always wondered if the Stairs at the 9:38 mark were the same ones from Saved by the bell. I know different production re-use and recycle set pieces although I'm not sure if that set piece is the same staircase or not.
Maybe A Pressing Engagement was supposed to be the title of the Land of Dispair MMPR episode. While Teamwork was supposed to be the real title of the Scary Riddles MMRP episode. I would not count out the off chance that the episode titles were somehow mixed around accidently during the time when Power Rangers originally aired in 1993.
I loved the Bandora musical scenes. Especially in the Green Ranger arc. Zyuranger: "Dora dora do, dora dora dora, dodo rara dodo rara Bandora." Power Rangers: "Lets go down on Earth and have a Picnic."
I don't know about that, I mean, they couldn't reuse the same footage of Rita forever, or at least it would've been boring to write for if they did, I think Lord Zed was more so just to expand things, with a villain who had no footage to write around, one who could do anything the plot demanded, even if that meant standing right alongside the American cast.
Fun Fact: The pilot episode also uses this footage, being the Megazord fight between the Rangers and Goldar and King Sphinx. Though in the pilot King Sphinx was called "Flyguy".
if you haven't yet, you should read the power ranger's comics created by boom studios. They are very good, and are not targeted at kids, but at adults that watched power ranger as kids
Remember how in Jetman, the rangers worked hard to get together because of their differing personalities. How there was a reason for why no one followed Ryu because he had to earn all of that? Well not in Zyuranger! We need to have the characters make dumbass decisions while listening to the worst god in the history of super sentai.
11:42- LOL The A Pressing Engagement confused me back in the days. Why did they need to use the Power Crystals to form MegaZord when they can already form MegaZord in the first Episode? 19:28- And it probably wouldn't make sense after translating them. Japanese language is structured differently compared to other languages.
I think at the time Saban might not have been able to do that whole human form with king sphinx as the show was still new also power rangers none union so saban payed for everything and the more original footage they made more money it cost so at the time saban could not . As you said they had to work with the the footage they had which was not always easy
If they're able to shoot Zack skateboarding around a Juice Bar, they can film a man in a suit telling a riddle. There's really no difference there. The fact that they are non-union isn't relevant. In fact, it means the production costs less money because they are not bound by union rules of payment or forced to hire union actors. They could have put a production staffer in the role.
@@MistareFusion yeah but due to it still being new and not yet the massive success it is now and due to saban being cheap and having to pay for everything might have been a bit to much at the time so most likely decided to go the easy route

I don't know. The way Power Rangers is described here as streamlining the fight footage and cutting out the "filler" makes me feel as if maybe it deserved to win the action category for this one. Otherwise, I can hardly believe I never noticed before how badly Power Rangers bungled its own story/character premises here. I'd always taken it at face value, that Jason's character flaw was excepting too much of himself and taking on burdens alone rather then allowing his friends to help. That interpretation pretty much defines the lens I see him through in EVERY other episode. However, while that might have maybe been the intent, the way it's actually presented here his friends are actually the problem that keep getting in the way of him completing task for which they couldn't provide any direct help in the first place. In the context it's presented, Jason doesn't have any lesson to learn. Rather it's his friends who seemingly learn the lesson instead to stop screwing around causing distractions and do the one thing they can do to help, cheer Jason on from the sidelines.
@Zoid Gundum but thing is in Japan Zyuranger and Abaranger are looked at as kiddie seasons. In fact their Power Rangers season in Japan are called "darker" even.
Ok, I have my own Kiramager adaptation first draft(show isn't over so it might change): Basic question is; what if Power Rangers weren't anything special? Sounds kinda snarky but my idea focus on people who are just another team in long legacy. I'm making it worse ok. So the story begins in different dimension where Black warrior made of crystals fights infinite numbers of enemies. He loses but it get's point out the battle was hundreds of Earth years long. He get's captured and taken to see the conquer of his own world just to discover that his world was dead for generations. Back on Earth we meet our first hero. He's an art student. Not a good one as people do not get his art. Or so he believes to be. The moment he hears however screams and ask for help, he transforms into warriors in red armor. A RUBY RANGER! Seconds later he learns that cry of a old lady... was just an simple ask for help to carry some groceries through stairs. There is no war against dark forces. He is a hero in times of peace. That's why nobody cares about him. So he spends too much time on Twitter (or this world version of it) and checks how much effect he has on world... or at least one city. Not much really, he shows up at bigger events, makes videos about washing teeth and talks about supporting small business. One day however news come around about Emerald Ranger. A Women stopping a robbery. I have like an episode and the half written. Continue?
17:23 seriously not knowing something doesn’t make kids or even adults stupid. Honestly what is the deal with yall calling people especially kids stupid for not knowing something
The Zyurangers didn't defeat the Dora Sphinx as a team. Dora Sphinx could come up with riddles indefinitely. They only worked together to delay their loss. It was Geki who got the idea to trick Dora Sphinx into revealing his weakness, and Geki did that by himself.
I'm sorta 'meh' on Zyuranger. I got major nostalgia watching it because of Power Rangers but it was here I sort of realized 'oh they are gonna do the kid thing and the rangers sort of show up?' Seriously the rangers here are just sorta there while in Power Rangers...eh slightly better cardboard cut outs? I just re-watched Jetman last month and love it. I enjoyed Gingaman too.
Deus ex machina here are the Crystal's you really need right when you need them vs hey there are crystals inside you that sure do stuff alright. Hmmm certainly a close call on which is worse
Hey MistareFusion, I can't seem to save a post on Patreon so I'll just ask it here. What would you have done for this particular episode? I'd try to find something to make it seem like Jason did need help and was just taking on more than he could handle. Like maybe he was playing on a school team and didn't win a practice football game, or some kind of fighting sport (maybe against someone other than Bulk?) and then have Rita imprison the other four rangers in the power crystals so when Red Ranger finds and throws the crystals it feels really triumphant and then have Jason win the rematch. P.S. I can't confirm but that musical number with the Zyuranger villains including Lami I think was used in a Fox Kids promo celebrating the New Year 2000. I can't confirm it but I do have hazy memories having Rita and her henchmen singing happy new year that year. Anyone else remember that or have that promo?
Thanks for the comment! If you're referring to the American name "Dan," then, no, I'm afraid it's not pronounced like that at all. I don't think I'm saying "Don," but the pronunciation is far closer to that than it is to how English-speakers would say "Dan."
I mean, I've been listening to it since 2010. It's definitely "Dahn," which is what I'm saying. Again, this is hard to do through text without using phonetic symbols, so I can still only assume you're referring to the American name "Dan," which rhymes with "can." But if you are, the Japanese language does not even use that vowel sound. The character's name is ダン (da-n), and the "a" is pronounced similar to "ah." It always is. I hope this helps!
I give up. I've done my best to be amenable to your complaint, but you refuse to elaborate on what it is you're even complaining about. I'm clearly saying "Dan." That should be painfully obvious at this point. I must conclude you're simply trying to be a troll. If that's all you want to do, please see yourself out.
I dont mind what they did with King Sphinx cause he's not meant to be Dora Sphinx but a different character all together. That's part of the fun with Power Rangers sometimes big time Sentai villains are cut out while other times a random monster of the week gets turned to a major villain with a multi episodes arc. It all up to what the PR writting team's story they want to tell is.
Hey Fusion, I've been trying to post this comment on your recent video "The Future of Dragon Ball Dissection," but it's not showing up in the comments feed for some reason. Let me try this video instead. At 13:47 of that video, you said "I hope you guys have appreciated longer videos, more scripted videos, not just let's plays to fill time." My response is this: I would actually prefer weekly uploads, if not multiple times a week. My offer to help you streamline the video editing process is still open, if you'd like to ask for help. I manage weekly uploads, and I'm doing absolutely huge projects. I can make 20+ minute videos in only 1-2 days. I put out weekly videos to fill up time, while simultaneously playing through entire Final Fantasy games for the purpose of doing ridiculously long retrospectives on the games. I've got a retrospective of Final Fantasy 7 coming out tomorrow that's over 2 hours long. I played through the entire game, and made a 2-hour retrospective video on it, while simultaneously having smaller videos (and by "smaller," I mean they are still full-length videos by most youtube channel standards; they're just not ridiculously in-depth) at least once a week. And before I was doing entire retrospectives on the Final Fantasy games, I was cranking out three full-length videos a week. So I know how to do increased video output. Again, if you want to ask for help, I'd be willing to help you. All I'd ask in exchange is to do a cross-over video with you and get my channel some exposure at the hands of a medium-sized channel.

I love that you use the video game music. It works great for a great series!
I want more!
Yeah! I think that is a lot better!
@Zoid Gundum Mostly because of dropping ratings they need something they could know might work instead of experimenting.
Rita did get to sing at least once in PR,🎵one hundred bottles of slime on the wall, one hundred bottles of slime 🎵
Yeah but it's not as catchy as the Dora Dora song.
@@Drums_of_Liberation someone should organize a thing at the next Power Morphicon to get Barbara Goodson to sing it. She does occasionally do the Rita voice, just recently she did part of Kim Guilfoyle's speech that was memed all over awhile ago.
@@Drums_of_Liberation Power Rangers once showed the Dora Dora song on a "Funniest Moments" special!
Dora Sphinx seems to borrow from both the Egyptian (the overall look) and the Greek (riddles) version of sphinxes.
What is the weight Jason is trying to bench? Also, heavy benching involves a lot of confidence and deep focus. They could have gone with that angle. I'm nitpicking, haha. This is a great series. Keep em cominf.
Zyuranger is a great sentai 🍩
That intro!! I love this series so much^^ thank you for the content ❤️❤️
16:13 You can see Walter Jones' missing finger (the middle finger on his left hand is missing).
The thing about the Guardian Beasts in Zyuranger is, they're huge dicks. This will become far more apparent when we get to the big multi-parters later on. Take my word for it for now when I say the Guardian Beasts are NOT always right. In fact, more often than not they're WAY OFF.
Mistre Fusion: “‘Mega Power Sword’… Well that’s just SUPER MEGA LAME…”
Myself: “Everyone’s a critic…”
Those skeletons hit me out of nowhere
The Megazord fight being reused from episode 1 makes more sense in the original pilot, where King Sphinx (there named Fly Guy) was sent down to fight the rangers with Goldar.
the mmpr plot had potential but not done right. Zyurangers did make some sense tho yeah not much build-up and was to soon might have worked best if they did it later in the series. King sphinx did seem more dangerous then Dora sphinx. tho yeah zyurangers plot was darker.
granted MMPR plot of the episode was flawed but they got better.
.
Them cutting out the Rita/Bandora dance scenes in Power Rangers is a crime. They should have kept that stuff in.
Great video
I've Always wondered if the Stairs at the 9:38 mark were the same ones from Saved by the bell. I know different production re-use and recycle set pieces although I'm not sure if that set piece is the same staircase or not.
Maybe A Pressing Engagement was supposed to be the title of the Land of Dispair MMPR episode.
While Teamwork was supposed to be the real title of the Scary Riddles MMRP episode.
I would not count out the off chance that the episode titles were somehow mixed around accidently during the time when Power Rangers originally aired in 1993.
I love the music used in these videos, could you consider making a playlist of the music cues you use in these Zyuranger videos?
They already are! Just search for the SNES MMPR music.

I loved the Bandora musical scenes.
Especially in the Green Ranger arc.
Zyuranger: "Dora dora do, dora dora dora, dodo rara dodo rara Bandora."
Power Rangers: "Lets go down on Earth and have a Picnic."
18:15
I'm 99% certain there's at least one episode where it's called the "Mega Sword."
two, i think. damned if i can remember which ones.
Several episodes. Jason can't make up his mind if it's Power Sword or Mega Sword.
The closed captioning in early MMPR gets the name wrong even when the rangers get it right. One episode the captioning calls the Megazord "Spacezord".
Rita Repulsa is a Generic Doomsday Villain.
Do dora dora... dodorara dora... dodorara dodorara Bandora.
Interestingly, Rita’s lack of personality may be why later seasons make their own villains rather than dubbing over footage
Comparing Zyurangers to MMPR season 1 is like comparing coffee to a juice.Lol
If I ever make a sword, I'm calling it the God Horn.
There is no other logical course of action!
Fun Fact: The pilot episode also uses this footage, being the Megazord fight between the Rangers and Goldar and King Sphinx. Though in the pilot King Sphinx was called "Flyguy".
In some places it seemed as if Goldar's name was Fly Guy.
POWER⚡RANGERS Budget was a lot smaller then.
Keep it up love all ur vids!!!
The comunicators work only as one destinatin teleportation to the command center
That Sphinx is thicc af
if you haven't yet, you should read the power ranger's comics created by boom studios. They are very good, and are not targeted at kids, but at adults that watched power ranger as kids
I also use the horse tail riddle every time I have occasion! :D
10:24 Me and the squad after 47/46 on our chromosome tests.
And Zyuranger still managed to kick PR's butt
That's pretty sad
Is red and white tower a one of a kind? i thought it was mass produced radio tower in japans colors.
2:34 Oh come on, even I can bench press that.
11:42- LOL
The A Pressing Engagement confused me back in the days. Why did they need to use the Power Crystals to form MegaZord when they can already form MegaZord in the first Episode?
19:28- And it probably wouldn't make sense after translating them. Japanese language is structured differently compared to other languages.
Why didn’t they get Pee-wee Herman to be the Spinx?
Yay... Zyuranger win!!!!
This is the only thing that is as good as DB Dissection. Thank you, Lance!
You know, it's a bit odd the main enemy of the Zyurangers is Satan but the Daizyujin has red devil horns.
It's samurai logic that Satan is blue and wears Kabuki makeup while Daizyujin looks like Voltron.
Zyuranger rocks so happy I am not into power rangers this is episode 5 of zyuranger this episode ends with a preview of daizyuzin the next episode they combine their guardian beasts into daizyuzin 📼

Zyuranger is darker and a great sentai in my opinion ☻
@@mikesilva3868 Zyuranger is not a dark season. Its was the most kid friendly season until Abaranger.
@@PowerPackers90 havent abaranger yet thanks 😊
@Zoid Gundum but thing is in Japan Zyuranger and Abaranger are looked at as kiddie seasons. In fact their Power Rangers season in Japan are called "darker" even.
@Zoid Gundum its a cultural thing. Most japanese fans see Power Rangers as "the cool and darker American remake" to "silly" japanese Sentai.
2:34 Did they use a bunch of tiny weights to make it look more impressive?
He’s supposed to be doing over 1000 reps so in reality Jason is a demigod
are you planning on doing toku after mmpr/zyuranger?
I do agree the Zyurangers 2 parter is far better then the stupid Jason Episode!!
There are a lot more children based plots in Zyurangers
That was just sentai in general at the time. Even later series like Dairanger and Ohranger did the whole save the kid of the week thing
18:28 - Well that sounds oddly familiar :V
Ok, I have my own Kiramager adaptation first draft(show isn't over so it might change):
Basic question is; what if Power Rangers weren't anything special?
Again, I'm not calling kids stupid. I'm making fun of the people who do and, in turn, write down to children.
3:15 don’t call kids stupid.
I didn't. I was calling out the attitude of assuming children are dumb when creating entertainment for children.
You don't even lift brah?
The Zyurangers didn't defeat the Dora Sphinx as a team. Dora Sphinx could come up with riddles indefinitely. They only worked together to delay their loss. It was Geki who got the idea to trick Dora Sphinx into revealing his weakness, and Geki did that by himself.
He was able to do that because the others bought him enough time to come up with the idea. So in fact they DID defeat Dora Sphinx as a team.
Thoughts on doing an MMPR pilot vs. Day of the Dumpster episode?
Deus ex machina here are the Crystal's you really need right when you need them vs hey there are crystals inside you that sure do stuff alright.
Hmmm certainly a close call on which is worse
I surprised that I don’t have a problem with DeM as much as other people
Just have a English do a gollum voice
I know this is old but it’s Dan not Don!
Thanks for the comment! If you're referring to the American name "Dan," then, no, I'm afraid it's not pronounced like that at all. I don't think I'm saying "Don," but the pronunciation is far closer to that than it is to how English-speakers would say "Dan."
@@MistareFusion if you listen it’s Dan so why would it be Don
I mean, I've been listening to it since 2010. It's definitely "Dahn," which is what I'm saying. Again, this is hard to do through text without using phonetic symbols, so I can still only assume you're referring to the American name "Dan," which rhymes with "can." But if you are, the Japanese language does not even use that vowel sound. The character's name is ダン (da-n), and the "a" is pronounced similar to "ah." It always is. I hope this helps!
@@MistareFusion with all that being said why are you saying Don lol
I give up. I've done my best to be amenable to your complaint, but you refuse to elaborate on what it is you're even complaining about. I'm clearly saying "Dan." That should be painfully obvious at this point. I must conclude you're simply trying to be a troll. If that's all you want to do, please see yourself out.
Then you can skip to episode 17 of Zyuranger, as literally nothing of consequence happens.
Except the dinosaur egg episodes as they show up over and over throughout the series.
Zoid Gundum it’s literally the main story of the season
I dont mind what they did with King Sphinx cause he's not meant to be Dora Sphinx but a different character all together. That's part of the fun with Power Rangers sometimes big time Sentai villains are cut out while other times a random monster of the week gets turned to a major villain with a multi episodes arc. It all up to what the PR writting team's story they want to tell is.
0:30 careful Mistare, Your Woke is showing.
Hey Fusion, I've been trying to post this comment on your recent video "The Future of Dragon Ball Dissection," but it's not showing up in the comments feed for some reason. Let me try this video instead.
At 13:47 of that video, you said "I hope you guys have appreciated longer videos, more scripted videos, not just let's plays to fill time."
My response is this: I would actually prefer weekly uploads, if not multiple times a week.
