But hopefully the next one will take care of some of those things. But overall, it was pretty great! Hope you have a great time watching it!
I think Art was scariest in All Hallows Eve, in the final short that poor girl couldn't escape him, he just teleported everywhere. When he finally got her, he didn't even kill her, he gave her one of the worst fates in all of horror. It's not confirmed, but judging by the fact that he left her naked and the words he carved into her, it seems to be he also sexually assulted her, either before or after the mutilation. The imaginen the Terror the babysitter felt after watching that, then seeing Art come through the TV.
The director of Terrifyer has stated that Art will never be depicted sexually assaulting someone through the franchise as it gets more intense. Anything he does is meant to inflict pain, and terror with no sexual pleasure being derived from any parties including himself.
there is usually a reason, if someone becomes a murderer (trauma, revenge, bad childhood)... in this case, however, we can see a aberrated SADIST, who kills for just pleasure... no other motivation, that makes it terrifying
I'd argue he's probably sadistic to the extent that he is out of a combination of those factors, although we don't know (and I don't want to know, I think it's better with his past is a mystery). His often very childlike behaviors even when not being directly watched and his inability to make noises with his mouth even when in extreme pain (he is entirely human in the first movie after all, nothing supernatural about him) makes me think he likely experienced some sort of trauma in his youth that halted his emotional development, leading to an unwillingness or inability to empathize with others and selfishness, existing only to entertain himself at the expense of others. Art seems to have disdain for humanity and the human experience (he is a clown after all, clowns are known for challenging the human experience through mockery), with this being obvious in the glee he takes in tormenting others and making a mockery of them and those they care about. A notable scene with the mashed potatoes scene in 2 where he sets up a family dinner purely to make a violent mockery of the whole practice, he takes joy in violating social norms, in particular here the mockery of traditional familial bonds (maybe I'm reading into this too much but he does seem to specifically enjoy breaking up families, idk, could mean something). All I'm saying is that you don't develop this disdain for others as the result of living a normal life, something happened imo Idk, I read his character as someone emotionally-underdeveloped and almost hollow, a monster who laughs to keep from realizing that there's nothing else inside of him, and so his killing spree in the first movie acts as a final middle finger to the world before he ends it all to avoid any consequences (he canonically didn't know he'd come back afterwards). Then his resurrection gave him the opportunity to distance himself from his humanity further (he did come back as a demon rather than a human after all) while leaving him immune to consequences, and so he's only leaned further and further into this, performing only for himself on a stage soaked with the blood of those he's killed. Then again, his name is Art, and art is interpretive by its very nature. I just feel that a lot of his behaviors (and the fact that he's literally a pierrot clown, typically known for masking deep pain with exaggerated masks while typically being the butt of the joke, outcasts that reject society while calling direct attention to the masks we all wear by their very nature) suggest that he does have a traumatic past of some kind that's led him to reject humanity and his connection to it. Also I just find the idea of him being evil because he's evil with no further explanation to be extremely boring, kind of ruins the character imo and makes him much less scary because it's no longer a person behind it all and jesus christ I just realized how much I wrote wtf
@@crypt5129 sadist is someone who enjoy torturing others. This clown definitely a sadist (worst kind). @@gaborfotos6121 I didn't say he wasn't sadistic or that he doesn't kill for pleasure. My point was that a lot of his behaviors and mannerisms as well as his identity as a pierrot clown among other things imply, at the very least, some kind of childhood trauma, likely related to his family, and then likely continued negative experiences throughout his life. Sadism does still have to come from somewhere, people don't randomly go on violent killing sprees and then kill themselves
The girl is not a hallucination. She is the reason he was resurrected in the second movie. You can’t hallucinate being physically brought back to life. You said yourself she’s supernatural that’s not psychosis
I've been a horror fan since the 80's, I'm 55, my favorite horror icons are Michael Myers, Leatherface, Freddy Krueger, Candyman, Pumpkin Head, the Universal Monsters and more. Many of the newer horror movie villains do not have lasting potential. Art is far and away the best new horror icon in decades.
David, the actor playing Art THE CLOWN (it's literally in his descriptive name 😂) has said many times that Art is not a mime. David had no training as a mime but he worked as a stage actor for many years before he did any movies, Terrifier 1 was his first movie role. Him having training as a mime was an inaccuracy that was perpetuated by news websites and social media. He did children's theatre and acted in the play: How The Grinch Stole Christmas where he learned physical comedy during that time. Also there is no psychological reason behind Art's killings. David has said, Art kills solely for his own entertainment simply because he thinks it's funny. After being resurrected by Satan he goes after the Shaw family (guided by the little pale girl who is a physical manifestation of Satan in the form of a twisted version of one of Art's victims) because Sienna is the only one who can stop Art from having fun/killing more people. Lastly, everything before Terrifier 1 is not cannon to the Terrifier franchise if or until Damien Leone decides it is.
I liked the first film i loved the second one and with reviews I've seen the third one sounds awesome also i like that the brother and sister characters from thd 2nd film are in this one ....I think Art's here for the long haul but just Hope any future movies don't dig to deep and try and explain his origins ..a little of that is OK but I think once they go down that route it takes a lot of the mystique away just look what the Halloween did with Myers ..sometimes it's better not knowing

Art does not act like a mime, he acts like what he is, a silent clown. Mimes don't use props, they "mime" evetything out, silent clowns do use props so when he does stuff he actually does stuff. So being a silent clown he uses props which is his weapons and he kills people with them, if he was a mime instead he wouldn't use weapons, instead he'd mime that he had them and he also wouldn't and couldn't kill anyone only mime the kills out, and for some reason he would actually kill as a mime that would automatically make him no longer a mime.

The first movie I found kinda funny.. It was the clown thing mime I couldnt take really that serious in that role.. But the second movie became really interesting and kinda scary.. Has gotten a better ongoing psychology story line.. So the second movie has gotten much better in the story telling. Also the acting in both movies are unprecedented. I'm late but you missed the short terrifier film that happened before the first Terrifier film, which while not canon anymore it does work as a little prequel before the film as the two films actually work together fluently
Scariest thing about terrifier franchise is that people actually like these films,in my view they r cringey and awful.the gore especially the blood looks so funny and unrealistic too
Also,Art has been confirmed to be a demon even in terrifier 1,despite having the body of a human you can clearly tell his face isn't of one,the nose, exaggerated mouth,as well as his immortality and reincarnating, etc all confirming this.
No, art was not always a demon, hence why he was able to shoot himself in the head and die in the first movie. If that wasn’t proof enough, Damien Leone confirmed it also. If you’ve seen Terrifier 3 already, it explains how art was reincarnated.
@@Dhampire1976 yeah this is false, in the first he’s wearing prosthetics and make up he’s just a psychotic human serial killer. Once he shoots him self he dies and the devil revived him as a champion of evil, so his face probably is stuck like that now. Sienna in the second one is revived as the champion of good when art throws her in the pit so it’s a good vs evil story. Once you watch the third it kind of explains it but doesn’t get too deep in it.
The only thing I find unrealistic in terrifier movies is the crimes of Art have no reaction. Only three horrible kills of Art would make police, politicians, press react.
I'll agree that the Terrifer movies have brilliant practical effects. But the back story of Art the Clown is non-existent. All of the great villains of horror have a pretty fleshed out origin story. And then there's Art who just exists and acts without any reason or purpose except to show off brilliant practical effects.
@@garykerr3384 This is only true for Art’s inception, but the creator, Damien Leone is creating sequels to actually develop his origins. Terrifier 3 even provides more details on these things.
There’s not a back story but there’s a current story and lore that kind of explain what he is at least. I’m sure the more sequels that come out the more it’ll be expanded on.
With a better script writer/storyteller at the helm, this franchise could be the scariest thing ever. Unfortunately, no one cares to craft a decent story. These movies just coast off of very creepy costume design and one good physical actor. I much prefer the Hell House franchise. It isn’t perfect and got a bit redundant with parts 2 and 3 but at least there is a back story. Part 4 really got it back on track.
This is Damian's world. Hes killing it. Hollywood is going to destroy this if he ever sells the rights. Also it seems the writing gets better as he makes more movies. Im hoping terrifier 4 is the last movie for a while tho. I dont want him running this franchise into the dirt
I see Art as a Demon who is trying to minic human behavior. So his exaggerated movents and expressions is the demon trying to human. But, the blood lust is what hes truly after. A demon of torture and blood
I promise that if he wasn't already the release of the newst movie carved his name in with Freddy, Jason and the others with out a doubt! I wasn't alive to see the og horror villans come alive I'm a 90s baby but I got to see art climb to the top ! That's when I knew 😅 hopefully they don't burn the series out and squeeze every fucking drop outta of it and burn it our like everything els gets! ❤
All Hallows Eve isn't cannon. In interviews the director says that he was human in the first Terrifyer, but became supernatural after the little demon girl resurrects him in the 2nd.
@@NocturnalCritic I don't think so. He gains great enjoyment from inflicting pain and torment. in other words he able to understand how his actions are effecting others, a psychopath doesn't benefit from either of those things because they aren't capable of intuiting those emotions. I think you may just be thinking of psychopathy as generic evil when that's not the case, plenty of psychopaths don't even commit crimes.
@@SirNightKnight Well first it has to be understood that empathy means you can empathize with another, meaning share their feelings. I think you might be confusing "lack of empathy", with "lack of emotion". Art indeed can display emotions, but he doesn't feel bad about what he's doing because he's basically the embodiment of evil, (this is what he is) which the creator Damien Leone has mentioned. He's not just a psychopath, the correct term would be "Psychopathic Killer", which is someone with psychopathic traits that lead to homicide, hence why Art behaves the way he does.
@@NocturnalCritic Empathy does not make you a good person. Empathy is a social adaptation. It is simply the ability to intuit others emotions. You can be incredibly empathetic and also evil/sadistic. In fact there is a theoretical off-shot of ASPD know as the dark empath. A highly empathetic person can be very dangerous if they are also sadistic because they know how to cause the most pain. To be clear I am not suggesting that Art is highly empathetic he most likely has very little. However, a psychopath cannot experience empathy full stop. A psychopathic killer is more like Michael Myers or Patrick Bateman. Someone driven to kill those in their way but does not gain specific pleasure in inflicting pain and torment. Art does gain pleasure and enjoyment in killing, so a psychopath is unlikely. He would definitely fall into ASPD, and does exhibit many sociopathic traits but I don't think psychopath in an accurate description. The term Psychopathic killer seems to be more used as a cool sounding title, instead of something that is accurate to Art's mental state.
@@SirNightKnightdepends on how you define "crimes". I believe that all psychopaths commit crimes in that they will simply do anything and everything that they can get away with. They lack morality and a conscience in addition to empathy. The thing is to not get caught or have to face any consequences or be accountable for their behavior. Therefore, most of them intentionally fly under the radar of the law and commit crimes (or equally immoral behaviors whether technically illegal or not) that they can get away with, such as abusing family members.
just a note art being human in the first movie because he was putting make up is not exactly the case because we find out that this make up scene take place in the second movie actually after he became a demon

It’s beyond my comprehension how people are failing to realize the deep effects that watching all these brutal and violent graphical deaths on screen will have on their psyche, and they go and pay to watch this movie cos they’re so “brave” and can take it. Only that perhaps just watching this movie will trigger psychological issues like depression etc. also speaking of this killer clown that is silent, stop acting like it’s the 8th wonder of the world. There’s only one thing that is making people talk about this movie and it’s not exactly it’s super intelligent plot. @@takitogoestoNY Unfortunately, you couldn’t be more wrong considering the fact that both IT films show on screen child deaths. Terrifier hasn’t even gone that far yet lol.
You think art, in an ironic way, makes up for his mutism by having his victims scream in pain and agony as much as possible as a way of letting his victims know, "Yeah, i can't talk, but you can and it pisses me off. But guess what? I enjoy the loud sounds of your terrified screams, so im gonna force you to do that." type of way?
@@NocturnalCritic yeah I know, but I was just saying either way he has to murder them. He doesn't shy away from killing. That there is a reason behind his scarying the people.
Art likely isn't a psychopath. Absolutely hate the flagrant use of the term. The vast majority of serial killers aren't psychopaths and it's debated whether psychopathy even exists in the way it's been portrayed in the past. Psychopathy has been, for decades framed as a disorder in which a person lacks the emotion of empathy or sympathy. The vast majority of "known psychopaths" though, do actually exhibit these things, just not in the way regular people express empathy. The most defining feature of "psychopathy" isn't lack of empathy or fearlessness. It's impulsiveness. Psychopaths DO fear consequences, and they DO feel fear. Hence why they often hide their crimes for years before being caught. What they don't do is meticulously plan things out. Hence why all the infamous "psychopath" serial killers we've caught are often times not "psychopaths". Their sadism is the overriding factor and that is what separates a psychopath from not only normal people; but other people with ASPD as well. The vast majority of people with ASPD do not exhibit sadistic behavior, or get joy from hurting people. They're just impulsive, narcissistic, and often times disregard how their actions affect others, but they don't PLAN violence.
I pretty sure the little pale girl is possessed by a Demon or saten himself I don’t want to spoil anything but terrifier 3 makes it seem this way for sure

@@dirkz.duggitz1567 I loved it! Lots of new lore, ridiculous kills, and as over the top as you’d expect.
@@dirkz.duggitz1567 I loved it too! They definitely amped up the kills and gore. I also really liked the humor in this one. It made me laugh a lot. Especially seeing it with a big crowd added to the enjoyment. My only complaint was that I feel like towards the end the plot got rushed and some things got overlooked.
I still think he's some kind of chaos demon. Just sent to earth to cause as much pain and mayhem as possible.
there is usually a reason, if someone becomes a murderer (trauma, revenge, bad childhood)... in this case, however, we can see a aberrated SADIST, who kills for just pleasure... no other motivation, that makes it terrifying
All I'm saying is that you don't develop this disdain for others as the result of living a normal life, something happened imo
Idk, I read his character as someone emotionally-underdeveloped and almost hollow, a monster who laughs to keep from realizing that there's nothing else inside of him, and so his killing spree in the first movie acts as a final middle finger to the world before he ends it all to avoid any consequences (he canonically didn't know he'd come back afterwards).
I think you can't accept the fact that someone kills for pleasure. btw these childish qualities of ART isn't coincidences imo ... childrens are as uninhibited as animals, they have no conscience yet, they are cruel often

Incredible breakdown of Art's character. Great work.
I think Art was mad Allie didn’t give him any candy.
She was a monster that had to be stopped.
I see Art as a hardcore mix of the Joker & Hannibal Lecter. If Leone plays his cards right he could (should) make this character just as interesting.
I didn't think I'd come out of this video learning that I too have select mutism from childhood trauma but here I am 🎉

@@DazeArctic the book is a reference to the first movie "The 9th Circle"
Art does not act like a mime, he acts like what he is, a silent clown. Mimes don't use props, they "mime" evetything out, silent clowns do use props so when he does stuff he actually does stuff. So being a silent clown he uses props which is his weapons and he kills people with them, if he was a mime instead he wouldn't use weapons, instead he'd mime that he had them and he also wouldn't and couldn't kill anyone only mime the kills out, and for some reason he would actually kill as a mime that would automatically make him no longer a mime.
One thing Im confused about Art is the fact he keeps coming back. Is he a demon? Is he Sianas father?
@@JurassicGojiFan1993 given what was said in Terrifier 3, it seems like Art is a sort of warlock type? Art the clown is the most iconic and best horror personality and clown like ever.
Art commits violence because he thinks it's funny. DHT and Damien talked about this.
I find myself wondering if Art isn't actually his name, but instead, a label for his actions- a form of "art".
I really thought art was going to end up being their dad
The only thing I find unrealistic in terrifier movies is the crimes of Art have no reaction. Only three horrible kills of Art would make police, politicians, press react.
I'll agree that the Terrifer movies have brilliant practical effects. But the back story of Art the Clown is non-existent. All of the great villains of horror have a pretty fleshed out origin story. And then there's Art who just exists and acts without any reason or purpose except to show off brilliant practical effects.

With a better script writer/storyteller at the helm, this franchise could be the scariest thing ever. Unfortunately, no one cares to craft a decent story. These movies just coast off of very creepy costume design and one good physical actor.

I don't think psychopathy is likely. He doesn't lack empathy he is just sadistic in his enjoyment of causing others pain
Art definitely lacks empathy lol
