Great video, but disagree regarding the value of having it serviced at JLR. Trust me, any car ive traded in the part ex value does not matter whether done at joe bloggs or main daaler. And even if it did, the value saved over 36 or 48mths would be around £1.5k to £2k. If a Ferarri or Bentley then yes main dealer i would.
I worked at landrover its one good bloke looking after 7kids who work off step by step instructions I left in the end it was doing my head in so when you have your waiting area hand your keys over your actually letting a young kid do the work and also the service managers are pushed to make more sales ie pads ect always use a independent never main dealer they don't have many skilled guys on sites now
Be wary of main dealers. Brother was a bmw technician for years at a big bmw dealership. Every job had a time allocation and jobs were often rushed without proper checks. Independents with good reviews often better and cheaper. Many are ex-main dealer mechanics anyway.
Watch LR Time - if you want your engine to last they forcefully suggest 5W40 oil if you want to avoid the infamous crank failure, but most main dealers won't deviate from the factory spec. On balance I find independent LR specialists work in my favour and I think their service stamps are enough to satisfy the next buyer. If you are close to Reading then Newbury 4x4 in Thatcham are great.
more benefit to changing the oil every 6k miles and sticking with 5W30 to be honest. The crank issue with SDV6 engines is caused by diesel passing the pistons and diluting the oil whilst doing short journeys causes partial failed regens. The more of these the more diluted the oil becomes which amplifies the wear not just to the engine but turbos also. The SDV6 is actually a good engine but only if used for long runs and reduce service intervals the older the vehicle gets. Never had an issue with one and it's estimated crank failure has effected around 3% of engines so in the grand scheme still relatively low. For those doing short runs I'd recommend the P400e but they are a bit agricultural when the engine kicks in. V8's also have there own issues but generally speaking are the best around bet. Yes heard positive reviews from Newbury 👍👍
The last Main Dealer service on my L405 should have included a brake fluid change, this was confirmed as being done both verbally and in print, nine months later I had to have some urgent work done at an independent as the Main Stealer couldn’t book it in for four weeks. The work at the independent escalated to include brake pads throughout, I was advised (without asking the question) that the brake fluid was absolutely filthy! The RR had 27000 miles on it at this point. No more Main Stealers for me…..
Same with jaguar main dealer supposed to change oil ,it was still black they never did it,took to independent for next service oil was changed was clear so main dealer never did oil change, but the independent jag specialist didn't put right amount of oil in it was 2 litres short of half way on dipstick a litre below minimum, you can't trust anyone, doing it myself
In my view a trusted, honest independent is better than a main dealer. That said, I kept my previous Range Rover for 15 years so by the time it was traded in, having a dealer history would have made little difference.
I prefer to have my vehicle serviced by the main dealer. Over the years I have had a few issues when my vehicle was well out of the warranty but since it had a full-service book stamped by the dealer they have fixed the problem for free or substantially reduced the cost of parts and labor.
My 2 year old velar is going for its first service at the end of the month , personally I wouldn’t take it anywhere else but to the main dealership, yes it expensive, but if the car need anything it’s all genuine Land Rover parts , and a full Land Rover history is worth it weight in gold when it’s time to move the car on . I’ve had a Range Rover for seven years now and I wouldn’t have anything else .
@charlotteanddavestorey6553 thus is the issue with range rover servicing 2 years is too long for the oil change intervals the oil on these needs changing at least every ,6 k miles otherwise you run the risk of oil dilution and premature engine wear. That's why the cars are classed as unreliable because people wait two years to have services carried out and this creates longer term problems especially on diesels.
It's not worth much because your range rover will absolutely plummet in value regardless. They are the most heavily depreciating cars of all brands. All consumables in your car are made by a third party and not range rover. It's cheaper to buy oil and filters yourself and then take it to a independent garage.
Great vid, would have been great if you had gone to jlr specialist and local good garage and got the quotes over the phone so we could hear the difference in price. Personally I for I would go to a good specialist and pay £15 for a wash else where because the savings are great. But agree depends on car as for our Vw polo just a local good garage is sufficient Been to the reading jlr many times and and staff are great there
Just took my discover 4 to main dealer to get a price for the 70,000 mile service, £2980 👀 going to a 4x4 specialist and they said £1300-£1400 as it’s a big service due, happy with there price and booked in for December 👍
I have found my Jaguar Main Dealer has given excellent service and find their costs very reasonable. Last service on my F Type SVR was £239! Last service at my Mercedes Main Dealer on my daily E63 AMG Wagon was substantially more than this.
If the security upgrade is done by LR Main dealer, does the car insurance drop massively? I almost bought one for 30K but the insurance for me was £5800!!!. Exactly wich model is your? It looks amazing
Seems very reasonable! I wish I'd bought one of these when I was looking a few months back. They seem to have got more expensive recently particularly low mileage cars
I have used a normal mechanic for servicing all my cars - Land Rovers, Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW etc etc. I have only once used a dealer (Renault) and was the worst service ever. I buy cars that are over 7 years old and never ever worry about dealer service. A good mechanic is as good, way cheaper and nowadays has access to all recalls and issues etc so never a problem. Main dealers are just a rip off in my book
With oil look at the numbers I can't remember what exactly the first letter is but alot of oils from cheap to expensive have the same numbers so quality is the same & remember garages don't buy 5 litre tubs but 50 gallon barrels
You survived this one but JLR will rip you a new one soon when you have to attend for Catastrophic engine failure! You better save or make enough money by then to fund that episode prolly 15 K upwards plus use the best Castrol Vaseline as you'll need it..JLR gone cashless for the same reason they don't have to physically count huge cash amounts. Not good look especially infront of other disgruntled victims. Your best bet is to sell now whilst the ship is still sailing, IMO
Haha, you first got your arse whipped when you bought the car new, keep going! - the security update should be free of charge. 😅, yep, extortionate, as you suggest.......
Had a Range Rover Sport after saving for years! Worst decision I ever made. It costs a fortune to own one and you are never comfortable at night because you never know if it’s going to be there in the morning. The UK is to soft on these bloody thieves.
I would say they are already gone & Wear sensor has failed, only 1 per axle. New OEM pads come at 25mm at the rear, with 95% wear that would suggest you’re at 1.25mm, below the required 3mm minimum operating requirement. But who knows, they were happy enough to let you drive out! Something that heavy I wouldn’t delay or skimp on safety. I use a mainStealer but I don’t trust them!
@@BuySellCarsTV false economy IMO as you know they are wafer thin and you can replace them yourself for not a lot of money. If the wear indicator doesn’t kick in or does when you have a long journey to make you could end up damaging the discs if you use it. I agree regards full dealer SH it makes sense when running high end vehicles
Have a Jaguar F Pace SVR , main dealers were quoting 3 months to do a job under warranty and cannot even get my car booked in for the security update. Oh, £590 for front brake pads fitted ! JLR do not care about their client base once the car has been sold , quite disgusting. At least Mercedes , BMW and Audi can book your car in within a couple of weeks.
lol so with brake pads and oil service would be close to £900 😂. Porsche in Orlando tried to charge me $2575 for a 60 k service on my Cayenne , after saying to them because I’m English doesn’t make me stupid . 5 min later it dropped to $1200 . That’s the last time I will ever use a main dealer and now use an independent with a better reputation.
vw and bmw are a rip off my son has opened up his own garage and does the service for me and booked stamped for far cheaper , A TOTAL LET DOWN WITH SERVICING AVOID .
Thats your first problem you should be changing your oil every 6k miles thats alot of the reason why modern engine blow up oil changes are to far out with fuel been dumped in to oil after re gens its pure water by the time oil is been changed
that's exactly why i don't go to a main dealer because when I did go to LR for an oil service it cost me £490 my independent specialist same oil same service cost £190 ,brake discs and pads specialist rears cost me,£490 range rover are wanting £434 just for pads !! front discs and pads cost me £590 oem pads range rover wanted over a £1000 for front discs and pads for the sake of a LR stamp not worth it when the specialist stamp is better because their service is more thorough than LR my independent fits genuine parts in landrover boxes and updates the electronic service record. They also have all the latest LR software and £1m worth of diagnostic equipment so I think I’m in good hands
Agree. The price difference is massive. It's even cheaper to buy the oil and filter yourself and then get a garage to do the work. same goes for pads etc.
If you're only saving around £130 by going to an independant then you're being ripped off. It should cost you a quarter of the price of a main dealer. All main dealers are a rip off.
Not much of a service; didn't grease the steering wheel and oil the seats. I picked my one year old VW up from service one Saturday afternoon and the main dealer had left the imprint of the old oil filter on the (cream) footwell carpet, broken the a/c and made a complete pigs ear of changing the faulty leather seat material
In one breath you've said you want full main dealer SH. In the next you've skipped a service because a since the last one only a small amount of miles has been done. This means you do not have full main dealer service history. The fact it did little miles since the last service is irrelevant. Also the cost for the replacement pads seems astronomical.... did he say £400+ ? I'm sure you can buy the pads for less than £150.
The title is misleading, saying brutal implies expensive, that aside, if you're keeping the car maybe for a couple of years, and it's got full main dealer history then keep it with the main dealer, but I'd you're keeping it longer, then take to a specialist, which I will be doing with my ten year old BMW that has only done 60,000
just had my front discs and pads done on my 2019 which came to £1250 fitted at the dealers, Ouch 😏 You are due the belt service next at 7 years and that's £1500!

Some main dealers do special rates for cars over 3 years old which may explain different price's at different JLR dealers
The “corkage” pricing on the Adblue .. I can’t believe the guy managed not to laugh when he said the price!
