Domestic science was only taught in Secondary Modern schools, designed to turn those 11+ failing, non academics into perfect housewives. Grammar schools didn’t teach it. So your assumption that all schools did it is wrong. Also, the school curriculum is chocabloc, so what shall we remove in order to give 2-3 hours a week over to cooking?
@@macsmiffy2197 Domestic Science was also taught in some Grammar schools. The current school curriculum is full but it needs a radical overhaul as many aspects of it are not preparing students for the world of work or life itself. Domestic Science/Home Economics/Food Technology etc is not about finding 2-3 hours a week on the time table for "cooking". There are a lot of cross curricular skills in practical subjects like Home Economics including health, disease and dietary nutrition as well as it being a life skill.
What does Gyles think happens in exams now? Pen and paper still prevail. My granddaughter has a reading age 2 years higher than her biological age. She has an extremely imaginative and creative mind and she’d like to write stories like her dad. However, she’s been criticised over and over again about her writing, (she’s left handed and the teaching assistant won’t allow her to angle her book 45 degrees to make the writing easier), so she’s been put off her ambitions until I pointed out to her that she won’t need to physically do the writing, a computer will do it for her. So many positives in AI that are brushed over. No one thinks any less of a Titian or Raphael masterpiece because all the brushstrokes aren’t theirs. On e-bikes…I nearly drove into a lad on one the other evening. No lights! He was wearing dark clothes and he came out from between parked cars at speed, right in front of me. They’re a nightmare on pedestrian/cyclist shared pathways. The police are never around to deal with it. We don’t even see any community support officers anymore so I’m not sure how successful this new Home Office initiative is going to be.
Is there a cut-off time, for answers & comments? Bec the women guests do go on & on as if in love with their own voices. We wld also like to hear fr the likes of Gyles Brandreth. There shld be a cap on chunter-natter thank you.
Bring back domestic science, especially cooking. With so many working Mothers youngsters need to be more independent about preparing their meals etc.
Yeah, home economics
@@So-and-So-em8fx Yes those lessons have stayed with me even after 60 years.

@@macsmiffy2197I went to grammar school in the 1980s and had domestic science. It was my favourite subject.
