Its well known that Sub-Zero was left handed and that his gun was a special made for left handed operators. But seriously, loved this figure as a kid. I had all of the cold weather specialist and really enjoyed playing with them outside in the snow.
They're probably the best figures, the winter soldiers.
You had me at “Forgotten Weapons.”
Checking your gun facts with "Gun Jesus" on Forgotten Weapons-excellent work good sir!
That file card text is so 90's with all that shouting and words like maximum meanness.
It's from the EXTREM! era!
There is something wonderful about coming home from work and seeing a new HCC788 review.
For me if where to do a subzero joke I would have used the movie Running man.
Also I got to give props to HCC for mentioning Forgotten Weapons. Love that channel!
Forgotten Weapons is one of my favorite channels too. As a history major, it is really interesting to see all of the different military and law enforcement weapons of the various countries around world. Plus I learned a lot about various weapons that were failures as well.
In the 90s, everything was to the MAXXXXX. Man I don't miss the 90s that much, some great sitcoms and music but the 80s was where it was at! Saturday morning cartoons... to the MAXXXXXX. Honestly, being a Rhode Island native, I didn't mind that Hasbro had a lot of Joes come from here. We're so under used and often forgotten.
I actually like this figure more than you do. The ill-fitting snow shoes, the halved grenade and the zany file card are the worst offenders for me. "He's mean, he's mean, he's mean - you know what he means: He means he's mean."
Nah. Near perfect figure. One of the best in the line. Nothing bad about him. Awesome look, awesome accessories, tremendous posability. Love him.
Sub-zero is a better match for Snow Serpent than any of the previous winter operations specialist from previous years as it comes to accessories.
That has to be the coolest cold start yet!
For the longest time, I thought that the base of the mortar, was a land mine and the mortar tube was a missile launcher. I still use it that way.
This guy complains too much, for my taste. Sub-Zero is a top tier figure, if I ever saw one. Practically perfect in every way. Like Mary Poppins.
@@christianhafer9819 I like any of the arctic Joe's, Sub-Zero is a lot of fun to own.
@@JoeMotionVideos82 Of course he is. He's a tremendous figure with zero issues. Do you think a kid knows, is worried about, or cares whether the ammo belt is loaded in the correct side or not? I mean, give me a break! Top tier figure all the way.
@@JoeMotionVideos82 I agree. Every Artic Trooper was good throughout the vintage line.
I got him for Christmas in 1990. Had a lot of fun with him and my other Joes. I often used his snow shoes for land mines cause I didn’t have Tripwire or any other Joe that had mines included.
I had this figure in my childhood collection...just the figure w/zero accessories. I completed this figure and it was pretty tough finding every single accessory. The ammo belt & bipod were the toughest. I still cannot figure out what those bottom pegs on the backpack are for. They would have been perfect to hold the mortars and the mortar launcher/stand. I don't know why the backpack was not made to hold those accessories. Figure would have been much higher had the backpack been able to hold the mortar accessories. Still a pretty good figure. Due to his rank as an O-2, I made him the C.O. of my arctic squad.
An underrated figure, Great review!!! And forgotten weapons is a great channel!!! :)
One or the best figures of the line, for sure. Maybe the best artic figure.
**OF NOTE: At the time of the release of Sub-Zero, NWTC (Norther Warfare Training Center) was under the command of Fort Greely. We didn't change to Space and Missile Defense Command and all of that until 2003. I don't remember the exact date when NWTC was split off. It's been over a decade since I was there, so I'm a bit fuzzy on things that weren't of immediate concern to my mission.
One I never had but is now on my radar!
Get him immediately! Top tier figure!
I made a joke about Sub-Zero v2 looking like Hoth Han back in the early 2000's on a website I was writing toy articles for. I'm glad I'm not the only one who can see it!
I completely agree about that head sculpt. I thought the same thing as a kid. I still see it that way. I never picked this guy up as an adult for that reason
💩
Great review, the intro made me laughed really hard, I loved this figure when growing up, but the weird thing about this figure for me that target and toys r us had a major over stock of this figure, how do I know this, well for my birthday I got subzero, for Christmas I got subzero, and for my next birthday you guessed it subzero, I wished I kept one in the box, knowing now how much a mint GI Joe figure carded is worth, glad you used my idea about subzero v2 looking like Han solo in hoth gear.
Agreed, best M60 mold, loved the ammo belt fitting in. Gung ho and the other m60 are attrocious, so stupidly oversized.
Please never stop doing this.
Forgotten Weapons. Nice. Ian is awesome. Great review. I also have a problem with the baby bonnet look.
Sub-zero wins, flawless victory!! 🥶
FLAWLESS INTRO!!!
I fixed mine by hollowing through the ammo belt feed. I had the same problem with the mortar. I used rubber bands, lol
Great review and great humor as usual thank you HCC788!
Terrible review. He gave what is easily a top tier figure a middle tier ranking for inconsequential nonsense. Looks like a baby? Come on!
I had this guy as a kid, but unfortunately he yellowed, really bad, then got lost. That green-ish outfit on the re-issue figure remind me of the kind of outfits you see professional climbers wearing when they're on expedition.
The watch cap under his hood reminds me of hair, and with that and his sour expression he reminds me a bit of Moe Howard.
I think the repaint works as a very specific Tundra Trooper where there's plenty of snow....and trees.
Great into. Took me a second then I LOLed.
Technically, 1990 is the last year of the 80s, so he kind of is an 80s Winter Ops fig ... I mean, if we’re going to nitpick.
Great intro!
And great to hear that shout-out to Ian at Forgotten Weapons!
Great figure awesome accessories. Blizzard would have to be the best of the Winter guys 👌😏❄
I had Blizzard but was out of GI Joe by the time this guy came out.
Blizzard is great as well.
@@markraymo997 You missed out on one of the best figures of the entire line.
I had and liked this figure
I *lived* at Fort Greely (and neighboring town Delta Junction) Alaska for six years!
The coldest I ever saw, was 63F BELOW zero - weird things happen at that temperature, but I can tell you one thing that does not happen... your pee will not freeze before it hits the ground.
It will freeze shortly thereafter though! 🤣
This is a great review! I like that you reached out to Ian. You should see if he would participate in Cobra Convergence next year! I’m excited because i pre-ordered his book, and it should be shipping soon. I enjoy when my favorite people from different areas get together.
I think the accessories with this are great, but agree they are more than one man can carry. The exception would be if he carried his gear in a vehicle. Coming from a Patriot missile Btry, I’m used to being able to carry a foot locker, a fridge, a tv and PlayStation, coffee maker, and microwave to the field. We had huge trucks with a lot of storage room compared to the number of soldiers we had.
Thanks for the great content.
Watching this at lunch and when you said MEANNESS! I damn near choked on my food from laughter...thank you😁
Ian @forgotten weapons.........aka gun Jesus 🤣🤣🤣
love the videos and keep em coming bro 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥, your channel is by far my favorite 💯
Loved the opening sequence
He would look better if the blue fur around his hood was thinner like it is in his character portrait.
Great review... I mean... GREAT REVIEW!
Great Review. There were what looked like 4 Sub-Zero figures that were either broken or apart in the box I bought for my son. We did manage to go through the body parts and get 2 complete figures. We did figure out how to attach everything but the shells to the pack on both. They were part of the Arctic force as my son called it. The blue seemed odd for a color. A light gray with a light o.d. cap would have looked better.
Little baby man! Little Lord Font Leroy! In my opinion, the best, and most realistic M60 GI Joe had belonged to Rock N Roll. There was something awesome about those weapons the first couple of years. The plastic held more detail (just look at Snake Eyes v1 Uzi) and was a harder plastic. Somewhere along the line, the weapons became big, rubbery, and shiny. I wish you would do a weapons review comparing the weapons first released ('82 and '83, maybe '84) with similar versions of the same weapons later. For example, M60, M-16, Uzi, MP-5, mortar, bazooka, crossbow, Dragunov sniper rifle were all released in '82 with incredibly realistic detail. Then came weapons with almost foot long grips, if they were 1:1 scale. What happened?
This IS a fantastic REVIEW of sub-ZERO! 😁
No it isn't. Unless you also don't like this awesome figure. Middle tier my butt!
genial seria poder coleccionar nuevamente esta nueva coleccion de G.I.JOE
You could say that he was named after Sub-Zero from the Running Man
Heres Subzero, now plain zero
Nice, didn’t know what to do at 1 am instead of sleeping before the working week
baby face, baby blue color, i sense a theme
My bro got sub zero and I got rampart. Always wanted sub zero
Rampart is cool too. But, I prefer Sub-Zero as well.
That intro was to die for...LMAO!!!
Dindn't realize back then that had three snow guys.
I had the snow serpent you showed (v.2), Blizzard, and I'm pretty sure I had Avalanche. But, it's been so long I don't know if I still have them. All my old stuff is just boxed (plastic binned, rather) and stored away.
I think the feeding slot being on the wrong side is a mold issue. Perhaps if it had been on the correct side, there was a good chance of the gun sticking to that side of the mold and since these are churned out by the hundreds, if not thousands, for ease of production it was easier to add a tiny tab to make the slot instead of trying to remove the other tab and rebuild it on the other half of the mold.
I want my baby back, baby back, baby back...
Didn’t Rock n Roll have an m60 too? Maybe they put the belt backwards to avoid copyright infringement.
In the comic books yes, he did. His original action figure however came with an MG 3 machine gun(a 7.62mm NATO version of the MG 38/ 42 used by the German military in World War II). Rock N Roll version 7 from 2005 did have a proper M60. Iceberg version 1 from 1986, had an M60, it was just missing the bipod and the ammo belt.
They tried to make a Joe snow serpent with the launcher & gun working with the backpack, but unlike snow serpent (amazing figure all around) the mortar shells put it over the top as far as practical playability.
That was one MEAN review! I get what you're saying about the light blue, but I still prefer the original over the re-release. The teal outfit with white and neon green accents never did it for me (I still need to get one though!).
I like this one'
What about rock 'n' roll's m-60 ?! that looks the (most) realistic in my opinion. 🇺🇸👍
There seemed to be a lot of redundancy in the later figures, especially in the arctic soldiers.
Subzero was also avalible in 1991.
Scorpion wins. Flawless Victory. Skidtality
I think the extra pegs on the backpack are most probably for the mortars. The fact that they don't fit is because of a fault in the moulding.
i still have this figure and a couple of the accessories, and i hate winter just like him...but as for his face, he reminds me of the rcmp guy from the tv show due south...
I think this is a quality figure It is my second favorite arctic figure my favorite being good ol snowjob.
Snowjob is tops and I thought the blue on Sub Zero's uniform would render him a more difficult target than black would. I like the figure myself.
@@soterioncoil2163 Top tier!
Top tier all the way.
I don't follow GIJoe closely, but there is one figure that I received as a kid that I have no idea what his name is. It was either the late 80's or the early 90's in Canada. He came with clamp ons for his boots, skis, and a backpack that could turn into a sled with all his accessories.
Can a superfan help me out?
HCC788: "... The quality is surprisingly high."
Me: Aside from the Day-Glo colors (semi) regularly used? But, that's just cosmetic. 🙂
I have a problem with field operatives holding high rank in GI Joe. First, no officer will ever be caught carrying a mortar. Second, the term “joe” refers to unlisted soldiers up to E4. Having a lieutenant be called a “joe” makes no sense.
Hey I have a question do you know where I could buy a lot of GI Joe's in bulk kind of for a good price so I can start my collection up again
I have this figure and is still on my bottom list of arctic G.I. Joes.
What do you mean bottom list?
Is that the base he came with or are those supposed to be snow shoes or crampons?
Can you do a review on 1993 Bushido? Not much is known about him.
I gave his M60 to Rampart
I gave mine to Salvo
I have two. A blue baby bonnet🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
lol sub-zero on the file card kinda looks like Charlie sheen lolololol
Winter? He only operates in the winter season?
I was thinking the same thing. Must be nice to have the rest of the year off
The m60 could be made right side fed due to copyright. Maybe
The M-60 is a US military design, not private. IP concerns shouldn't be an issue.
I bet someone just misremembered - either that or they reversed the mold without realizing that it would have a negative effect.
I thought the same thing- sometimes Hasbro would intentionally change the names of weapons or vehicles (XF-14 for the Sky Striker or Grunt’s XM-16).
Either way I don’t think it’s THAT big of a mistake. We’re talking about a toy line that by 1990 had Plant People for goodness sake. And HCC said he didn’t mind the factual mistakes in his file card so who knows...
His weapon load out puzzled me alot heavy kit for one man why 90's figures unless they look cool or have a interesting file card i have little interest for me
You forgot sub zero.
Does that ammo belt suffer from Gold Plastic Syndrome ?
No. It's very sturdy.
His face looks like it's leaking out of the hoodie. Not really digging this one at all, especially that blue colour.
I agree, it's a decent figure but the baby blue details are very out of place, makes him look like something from a Christmas special. All Hasbro had to do is instead use a pale grey details and put the ammo feed on the proper side of the M-60 and this figure would have been great, maybe fix that baby bonnet thing too! The file card is silly.
Nah. Phenomenal figure. Never thought he looked like a baby. You're crazy. No kid knows what side the ammo loads on, and neither do normal Joe's. See what I did there? Only gun nuts like you and Hooded.
They should have gone with a light grey instead of the blue... It is by far the worst blue, like a 1960's institution blue
Middle? Sorry, but that baby bonnet puts him bottom for me. I think he looks somewhere between a sad baby, or a grumpy grandma wearing a hair net. Neither are good...
You are out of your gourd! Top tier figure all the way. One of the best of the entire line, and perhaps the best artic figure. Lay off the booze.
@@christianhafer9819 you’re welcome to play with Captain Blanch from the Golden Girls all you want. I’ll stick with the cool figures. 😁
@@mrdonigan The Golden Girls are lame. I don't get the joke anyway. Are saying Sub-Zero looks like Rue McClanahan? And keep playing, even though, I assume you're old like me, so why would you actually be playing with them, keep playing with Sub-Zero because he's one of the coolest figures of all time bar none.
@@christianhafer9819 I bet you were the life of the party growing up. Get a sense of humor. Good grief.
@@mrdonigan Never much of a partier, but class clown, I'd say. Always making everyone laugh. Not to the detriment of my grades, however.
i still have this figure and a couple of the accessories, and i hate winter just like him...but as for his face, he reminds me of the rcmp guy from the tv show due south...
