    I love this movie so much. Two years ago, my 6 year old daughter got me a mug for Christmas that says "I don't know, Margo". She got it because everytime she asked me something I didn't know (like why is December the last month of the year) , I would say that to her.

      If she ever asks you why the carpet is all wet, you can just silently take a sip from your mug.

    A guy I know owns the original painting for this poster, as well as some concept artwork. Unfortunately the sets for the Griswald neighborhood were recently demolished for new studio space.

    There is rather was an alternate movie poster or add for National Lampoons Christmas Vacation which mirrors the first two! Chevy standing tall and proud with some beautiful woman standing next him in bikini's I haven't seen it since 1989. I guess it must be rare!🤔🎥🎅🎬

      I certainly haven't come across it, that would be fascinating to see! The poster designs for the first 2 Vacation films were very distinct, that sort of Frazetta fantasy style

    Was National Lampoons a company or just a title for a bunch of movies?

    • @Paper_and_Light
      @Paper_and_Light  8 місяців тому +2

      It was a magazine first, a spinoff of the Harvard Lampoon. The magazine was a massive success, and they expanded into albums, radio and eventually film, their first production being "Animal House".

  • @H3rnD1zzl3
    @H3rnD1zzl3 9 місяців тому +7

    The poster is parodying the movie “Shocker”, which was released in October of 1989 just a few short months before the release of NLCV.
    Most Lampoon movie posters parody a film that came before it, as a sort of way that the National Lampoon magazine also parodied real life events.
    For instance, National Lampoon’s Vacation and European Vacation poster was a parody of an older “Star Wars” poster. The artist for both, Boris Vallejo, was heavily influenced by Tom Jung, who created the Star Wars poster. The NL versions were also parodies of the old “Conan the Barbarian” illustrations.
    Though there wasn’t a whole lot of proof regarding the inspiration for the Vegas Vacation entry, the closest to poster to its likeness was “George of the Jungle”, however, VV was released nearly 5 months prior to George…
    My honest assumption for VV’s poster was that it is simply self-parody of NLCV, as VV became self-aware of the changing actors playing the son and daughter of Clark Griswold.

      Wow, thanks for writing out all of this info! I can certainly see the similarities between "Shocker" and this poster. If you have any sources for me to read, I'd love to check them out, I always want to research more details.

      I have a black and white version of the original Christmas Vacation poster that looks like Boris' style. He only did European poster. He answered an email thread years ago, and he went back and forth with me. He did not do 1983 or The CV. He appreciated me sharing the clipping, but he had no idea WB had commissioned someone to mimick his style.

    I have the original poster that looks like the first 2. It is super rare and in black and white--it's from a 1989 newspaper clipping for showtimes. If you'd be interested in seeing a pic of it, let me know and let's try to connect somewhere!

    3rd films better than original, Friday the 13th part 3, many find army of darkness GREAT ( it is) Die hard with a vengeance is the general go to fave sequel of many. um. Saw 3, a nightmare on elm street 3. that 2015 vacation, stupid, Uncle eddy's island adventure is better

      I might have to fight you on Friday 3D: I think its hilariously fun, but F13 and Part 2 are better films I'd say, and Part 4 is better than 3D. Also wouldn't say Elm Street 3 is better than 1. An undebatable best part 3 is probably 'Thor: Ragnarok', but I'm not sure if that counts?

    I am trying to find a way to message you. I have a collection of brand new posters from the late 80's early 90's. These are still in the tubes. My uncle owned a video store and these are the posters for the VHS tapes. There are 10 posters in a tube approximately 15 tubes. These are 30 year old brand new posters.

      @@kevinhughes7378 posters that were printed for video stores were typically a different size, and usually single-sided. They usually had the same artwork on them, but with an advertisement on the bottom, "Now on Videocassette' or something similar. How long did your uncle own the video store for? That would've been a sweet gig in the '80s.
