Was sent here by the great Tyler Stout and his newsletter. Incredible poster and your video is almost as good! Proud new subscriber and can’t wait to see what else you have in store… would love if you covered some of the Alternative Movie Poster scene too
Welcome! I have a few Mondo posters in my collection that I'll be covering in the future for sure, the alternate scene is amazing. Some hyper-talented artists involved in that scene, Mr. Stout being one of them of course!
Gosh! This poster gave me nostalgia for a time before I was born. I was only an eight-year-old when this movie came out. So I probably saw it in theaters with my father, who probably wanted to see it more than I did. Every time i've seen it since then, I've enjoyed it more and more! RIP Alan Arkin.
Love this movie. ❤. The graphics and topography bring up memories of the stop animation tv show “The Thunderbirds”. Great job with research, production and presentation.
Must've been January of '91 first time I saw the Mattos Rocketeer poster in the lobby of Kent, Ohio's Plaza Theaters. The poster was presented as a standalone cardboard display...standing 10 feet tall! Glorious and awe-inspiring. As a fan of Dave Stevens' comics, I nearly passed out from shock.
This is the first of your videos I've seen and I am looking forward to seeing more movie posters reviewed. The Rocketeer poster is great and I'm a huge fan of movie posters in general. Hope to see more reviews of posters, especially by Drew Struzen and other film poster illustrators.
He's holding his right hand up with the trigger button, I wonder if they had to light that as well, which created some odd shadows to battle around his collar?
@@Paper_and_Light Could be. It just looks like they just pasted his head in from another picture. Seems like his neck shouldnt be getting so much rim light with such a high collar and there would be more light on the jacket. But maybe my brain is seeing issues where there are none.
@@Paper_and_Light LOL, nowhere... it's in storage... I'm in between apartments. However, I just emailed you a photo of the poster after I got it framed =)

The first time I saw this poster was in the lobby of our local theater at the mall, and I always loved it for its Art Deco style.
It's a striking poster for sure!
32 years on, it's one of the best posters i've ever seen. it certainly got me to see the movie. genuinely iconic.
One of the best of all time, imo!! The fact that the movie was little seen and misunderstood only adds to the mystique of it all.
For home media, they DID use the one sheet poster for the limited edition Steelbook and it's one of my favorites in my collection.
That must be a kick-ass steelbook!

Arkin gave an understated, stellar performance here!

Thunderbirds are GO!

A 10 foot tall version??? Talk about majestic! That would've been amazing.
This movie is so much fun! And what a beautiful poster!
Yeah, it's a beaut! Belongs in the Loooooooouvre.

Absolutely, we've got plenty of Struzan posters in the pipeline. Welcome to the channel!
That poster 🤩🤩🤩🤩 the bulldog cafe is so amazing!
Right?! I wish I could eat a bowl of soup there.
your the only old style poster fan on youtube . i saw the poster when i went to the theatre in 91
That must've been memorable! Such a striking poster.
Great video!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 🙏
Found you on TikTok and so glad I did. One of the best film essay channels I’ve seen!
Thanks very much, and welcome! I have a lot of cool posters on the schedule :)
6:59 The inconsistent rim lighting on Billy Campbell's face and jacket irks me.

The standard poster at 6:56 in you talk about is my and alot of other fans favourite poster. Just saying. I Love both posters.
I think it pales in comparison to the teaser poster.
I don't understand... you love this movie poster... yet you gave it away? Did you has multiple copies of it (as I do)?
Multiples, yep :) Thankfully the 1-sheet isn't super rare, at least not yet.
@@Paper_and_Light LOL, I have the 1-sheet too.. but then I went all out during the quarantine and bought the 45 x 59 subway poster ;-)
@@seikopurist4110 Wowwwww, where do you display it? I'd love to see :)
