dude.. thank you... fitting a similar water heater in our sprinter in a few days. We are doing van life, with the sail boat being the goal in the next couple of years. again, thank you.
I think the older one is Force10 copy. Our plumber installed the isotemp in its place and did not have much good to say about these older ones. Good for parts or metal recycle.
Nice work. Like I said in your previous video we really likes our isotemp water heater we installed. For holding the water temp the 4 gallons will give us showers and still be warm in the morning for any morning dishes. Oh, not sure if you know this, but Isotemp makes a solar heating element for that heater that draws 25amps dc. Something to think about, but I believe it bypasses the thermostat so there is a risk of over heating the water. Stuff to thing about if you need a dump load for your solar or you just have extra power to burn.
Ah dude I feel your pain with the difference between BSP and NPT. I had the same issue when plumbing my water tanks. Didn't understand at the time the difference. But I learned quick. The isotemp water heaters are great. Pricy but you get what you pay for. I expect a bit of a issue plumbing in your lines from the engine to the heater though. But maybe not. Not sure why you have so few subscribers. Your channel content is spot on for refurbishing a old sailboat. You present it well. I have been on youtube for years following others doing the same thing and never saw your channel.
I think you were using the SharkBite disconnect tool backwards. The other side has a flatter surface and sharper edge that engages the sleeve better. I mean...three tries is okay too I guess. 😉
Hi ! I have the same problem on my Isotheme in my van. What was the problem exactly ? To much pressure on your systeme ? I just what to know the reel cause before change the seal. You do a great job thanks !
The problem was just a bad seal. We couldn't determine any other cause. We have changed how we use the water heater though. We now keep it off until we want to use it. We haven't had any issues lately.
is that a check valve i saw on the cold water inlet side of the water heater? If so, is it required or did you just do it to keep the hot water from back flowing for peace of mind? By the way Love the channel just found y'all a couple days ago and am watching all your videos. So far great work!
Thanks for watching John, glad you're enjoying the vids. You're correct that there's a check valve on the cold water inlet, and though not required, I highly recommend them. Not necessarily for safety reasons but more from an efficiency standpoint. It helps keep the hot water inside the insulated tank instead of being pushed back into the cold water side thus reducing the cycling of the heating element.
Gah your old water heater looks just like mine. What made you want to change from it? Gah that was some serious surgery going in to mount that thing!!! Yea those backing plates look terrible compared to those works of art you made to mount your fuel filter switches. Gah all the BS different thread types.. Really important. But man so annoying! Holy crap that shark bite is cool! I think that redoing some stuff in PEX is going to be a project I take on at some time. I've never done anything with PEX before. See... You mention that it pulls about 7.5A and you've got a fancy gauge that helps you see all that and she won't even get interested enough to take a look. Really interesting about the pre-mix setting on the water heater. That looks like a really nice safety feature!
The old one was crusty and inefficient. We wanted to get the water heater out of the lazarette and move it closer to the faucets. Under the sink is where this one fit. If you haven't drained and descaled your water heater lately you'll be amazed at what's hiding inside. Thanks for watching.

How are you finding the Isotemp in your Sprinter? I’m looking at different options for my van right now.
Thanks, Ben.

Just found your blog. Very nicely done.
Now you made me go back and redo my Isotemp install as nicely as you did yours!
Thanks,

Hi G! Thanks for checking out our channel. What kind of boat do you have?

HAAAH!!! Thanks Jeff for pointing that out. Sometimes I think that Jeni likes to include my struggles in her final video edit....
Nice clean install! 👍. I have this shore ahead of me; like you... also have an older (15yr) unit to use as an anchor or landfill donation... lol... 🙈

Please can su explain about resistence and both thermostat in a heater isotemp thanks
Where did you buy that fitting that converts the treads from British pipe thread to American pipe thread?
i'm also leaving a comment as I'm watching the video.. the delete of the beard freaked me TF out.... lol.... #beard life
Hilarious. I just rewatched the water heater video and it kind of freaked me out as well. Good luck on the van traveling!!
