I'm so happy to have only discovered this dude today, after consuming 100% of the episodes of the Huberman Lab Podcast, I'm sure I would be completely clueless to 90% of what he talks about if otherwise I had watched when the episode launched... please, bring him back!
Super fascinating, it is really rare that I encounter someone with both a unique and informative perspective in the health and wellness space, especially nutrition. Thanks guys!
Amazing episode, love all of the knowledge and have heard bits and pieces of this during my education as a functional medicine practitioner. Very knowledgable guy. There should be a warning to this one: don't listen while driving, you'll want to take lots of notes. Including about Mark's garbanzos
So many notes! Yeah, driving and note taking will soon be outlawed due to this episode lol. Thank you so much for stopping by man, we really appreciate it!
Holy Fuck!!! This is one of the most amazing videos I’ve ever seen/heard!!!! I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this guy, I’m buying his book right now!!! Thanks, Mark, for continuing to mention this video in your most recent ones, which made me go back and watch this!!!!! Thanks to all 4 of you guys, this is my new favorite power project video!!!!! 👍👍💪💪👊👊
Well it's a year later and I've only just discovered this guy. Why is he not everywhere is my question! What did you think of the book? Have you implemented any of his ideas? And have you had any benefits?
@@alisonjane5364 yes I have implemented many things from the book. I eat 4 apple skins and hmo powder every day. I also use the 2 day core pattern, and i regular do hard chewing, I don’t like raw green beans so I use raw cauliflower. I have also done the integrated interval, I need to get back to that. I have done the amplified fast as well. I find it much easier to stay lean since getting Joel’s book.
@@alisonjane5364 oh no problem, I hope you get the book and hope it’s helpful. I think Joel is amazing, I honestly never even gave my gut bacteria a thought until I found Joel, now I know I have the right ones and I feel great.
I'm kind of surprised there are no comments on this, but this book does not seem to exist anywhere. The only reference I can find of this book is in interviews like this.
Would love more info on the diets and exercises for special needs individuals. This is a huge community that desperately needs help. The doctors are really failing them right now. Any info or links would be greatly appreciated.
What this guy fails to mention is the stress caused from living so pedantically will lead to more inflammation. You can’t overcomplicate health to the point where every day you wake up you feel the weight of everything you have to do and this compounds over time. 7-9 hours of sleep, whole food diet centered around, do things you enjoy everyday, smile, laugh, walk in nature and practice gratitude
Quick question about the book. I am currently reading the ebook version while I wait for the hard copy. Joel keeps mentioning his supplements, but I cannot find his supplement company. I might be willing to buy some of them, if only I could find them.
Hey Drew - I'm holding off for now. When I wrote that sups were the plan, but as I got farther in I didn't want anyone saying I was just trying to cash in, and many of the ideas in the book will need to withstand a lot of scrutiny, which helps if I don't have a finger in that pie. I made suggestions in the book for alternatives where people could get things, Walmart for example, for the reds, or baby formula, for the HMO. BTW, how is the read so far?
@@joelgreene7289 Really fascinating read so far. I am excited to implement some of the tactics in the book into my life. It might be tricky with some of them as I have some really significant issues going on, which will complicate things. But I am impressed thus far as it is one of the most unique perspectives that I have encountered in the health and wellness landscape. Could a good quality cows milk colostrum work in place of the baby formula, because I already have a good quality colostrum that I tolerate well. Thanks for writing the book as well as the reply! I can already tell you that I will be gifting this book to others for some time to come.

Nice episode overall! I think Joel pinning the excess production of 4-HNE on keto diets is kind of unfair. 4-HNE is the result of breakdown of omega-6 fats (the kind you find in high % in seed oils like soybean/corn oils). If the keto studies use seed oils as the primary fat source, that's as bad as using high sugar to represent a high carb diet. Tucker Goodrich has a good take on this: breaknutrition.com/omega-6-fatty-acids-alternative-hypothesis-diseases-civilization/
but if you break down what 4-HNE actually is you can see where he's coming from. 4 - the amount of skinny fingers per hand H - sounds like 8+CH N - this is easy, you can't pronounce the "Nnn" sound while plugging your nose E - the drug used by many rave goers in the late 90s to early 2000's. Since it's now called molly, it can be confusing. See.
Mark Bell's Power Project 😆 But really, can't blame keto for what the soybean oil did. Tucker Goodrich would make a great guest. Stan Efferding has good things to say about Tucker's message.
@@jtma04 lol awesome dude, thank you for the recommendation. Thanks for the comments by the way, you are smarter than us for being able to retain this info, thus the silly reply, but we'll look into it and see what we can dig up.
Hey Justin - thanks for. response. If I may, offering a few thoughts. There is a wikipedia entry on 4-HNE that creates a lot of confusion I think. It's not very accurate. Yes, if you leave some omega 6 fats out in the air, they will break down into 4-HNE. That's not necessarily the same thing as how 4-HNE is produced in the body. There are multiple pathways to produce 4-HNE and it really depends on the tissue in question.4-HNE can be be produced by DHA, which is an omega 3. It's also not just a bi-product of pulling fats into beta ox. Cardiolipin oxidation into 4-HNE is where it gets interesting, especially in adipose mass. There are studies that show keto diets produce 4-HNE without really delving into exact macro composition. Suffice to say, oxidation of lipids is very complex. Keto diets oxidize fats and produce oxidized lipids. The long term effect. of oxidizing fats, tissue by tissue, gets us into some unknowns, which get's to really thinking hard about imbalances from any source. Hope this was helpful. Thanks for. your input!
