Nah, I LOVE this! and love the black & purple in it. So many amazing colors playing with eachother and the bright ones still look bright. Very cool, thank you for doing these tutorials!
But, they all can't be in the top 10 - especially the results that don't match my original intentions. With that said, the Alien Spine was intended and it ended up being in my top 3 favorite for this year. So, very happy accidents do happen. :)
Too busy? Nah man, that looks great! I'm gonna try this myself. I've tried a lot of your designs and I'm never disappointed. I know this one won't be any different. Thanks for your videos!
I like your precision with all steps of the process and your critique at the end. I like the rainbow colors and placement and agree with you on the black. I'm learning a lot from you! Looking forward to your next tutorial! Thank you.
I love the color transition! I totally get what your goal is! I love the ice dye look. Which liquid dye it will be different but not a bad different. I would totally try it with liquid dye! You might even be able to set it in a pool of black dye after dying the rainbow parts. So many options! While the shirt might not have turned out how it looked in your head... it’s really cool looking!
Stunning! I’m gonna try this one, and hope it turns out just like that. As far as too busy, I thought that was the goal with tie dye..😁 Thanks for posting this!
Taunting us with the Cerulean! :-) I think it came out terrific! Appreciate the detail, I have never been able to get a rainbow and I think this will help.
I bought quite a few pounds of cerulean and turquoise back in December. That was an important purchase with as much as I use cerulean. ;) Thanks for the feedback - hope it helps you get the rainbow to work out.
Love your videos! If I were to try this with just liquid dye, would it be flipped to do the other side of the t-shirt and would I have to follow the same order of colors?
Yes, you would likely need to dye both sides to get good penetration of the dye if you opted to use liquid dye. It would be very difficult to keep the dye contained unless you went with thickened dye.
I love it just like it is! If you want to try icing another shirt leaving the black areas open for dye to blend and try thick liquid black on the back - or both sides.
HI CC. Have you retried this one? I mean I think it looks super cool but I am curious to know if you tried it again with thickened liquid dye. Also would you do the black part with liquid dye as well??
It's cool, but I agree with the black making it feel busy...perhaps due to saturation. It could have benefitted from a longer batch time (I leave my blacks for 48 hours). Also, I find when doing rainbows, I like to incorporate a blue I haven't used in the rainbow for a background area. I think the blue calms things. I like the effect, and wonder how it would look if you simply carried the rainbow through each section, stepping them one "rung" at a time from where you drew it in. Thanks for showing this process.
I don't keep a measure of the dye used for each individual shirt. But, I can tell you that based on inventory, I use less than 50 cents of dye on average per shirt. The spoon in that I use in the videos is an old baby food spoon that is approximately 1/4 teaspoon in size.
@@CasualCollisions awesome ... thanks much ... that sort of gives me an idea ... i find i usually do not use enough ... going to try the ice dye as soon as my order is delivered ... thanks again .. love watching you ..
@@mariaalanis301 - It depends on the color. But, the distributer (Dharma, Custom, etc.) have pages available online or ship an instruction sheet with the orders that explain the ratios for each color.
I prefer the results of ice dye. But, you can use liquid dye or slowly add water to the powdered dye - if you'd prefer those routes. Here's a video that shows the difference between ice and liquid dyeing the same pattern: ua-cam.com/video/HgEpV905lpA/v-deo.html
Up until about 6 months ago I used Gildan G200 almost exclusively. But, the new silver tag version of the G200 seems to be sloppily sewn on at least 20% of the shirts I'm receiving and some of the shirts do not take dye the same as they used to. So, I'm currently trying out various brands and styles to find something else that I like. I know many people use various brand's ringspun cotton shirts because they have a much softer feel versus the G200. But, in side-by-side dyeing, they don't retain the same amount of dye as the G200 and they can't reach that super-saturated look that I like. I've heard the Gildan Softstyle are a good compromise - deep saturation possible while having ringspun feel; but, I'm not sure about the quality of the seams yet as I've only ordered a small sample. I do have a larger order of the Softstyle coming in this coming week that I'll be testing to see how well they hold up and how they look. I'm staying optimistic that they will work out well.
@@CasualCollisions thank you so much yeah once I got the G500 I noticed they had little sleeve's so I think I'm going to make a few test orders of g200 and softstyle I start a little tie dye business thinking what could be easier then tie dye some shirts lol I had no idea how much work it really takes to make GOOD tie dyes I thought I could crank out 50 a day lol now I know 10 is ALOT to do in a day and I do mine outside are shop where people can watch which is a bad idea but you have been alot of help thank you so much
@@jamesproffitt9641 - You *can* crank out 50 in a day; but, they're going to be simple spirals and you're going to hate your life.... Not to mention your hands are going to revolt after a couple of days and will turn into claws that can't even lift a spoon. ;)
That's a good point. I don't use muck dyeing very often and I'm not really sure why.... The results are generally good with it. I do, generally, try to over-complicate things. ;)

Just the single side. I wouldn't even consider trying to match the dye layout on the reverse. ;)

I wanna know if while adding black color to spiral or mabbling design, is it applied both back and front or just back?
I generally soak it in a bowl of liquid black dye. The black *should* only bond with the white areas and not overtake the other colors.
Why do you flip them inside out?
Here's a short video that explains it: ua-cam.com/video/6VsKeM56QKM/v-deo.html
