According to Alain Jessua, in an interview on the DVD of Madame De.. in making this film they would start work at 12pm and rehearse for 2 to 3 hours, before shooting until 7.30pm. Max Ophuls would work with the actors on the scene first and then on the blocking. To design his camera moves, he would first follow the action with a view finder and then give the camera operator instructions from that.

Great film and critic is absolutely right. Magnificent is exactly the word for Danielle Darrieux here and in any of her films

The same can be said of both male leads and the seducer (played by Vittorio De Sica) an Italian actor who also became a director whose first movies crucial in founding Italian Neorealism.

On parle sans cesse de Madame de... mais Le Plaisir de Max Ophuls lui est encore supérieur. Il s'agit d'une série de petits films d'une beauté inconcevable, dans lesquels la France semble ressusciter.

Because he's Vittorio De Sica. His real life wife was even younger than Danielle Darrieux 😉
