Even though digital games appear to be taking over the market, all Collector's Editions should STILL come with physical game releases, because I'm absolutely sure that the people who care enough to buy those are always gonna be the very same people who WANT physical games.
Great points! Personally, I differentiate between content I love (physical) and just consumption (digital). If I love something, I want it in the best physical format possible (here’s looking at you, Grim Fandango on period correct hardware).
The videos you make are like the daydreams of videos I would make in my head, except what I would end up with would be a bunch of fart sounds and jokes that fall flat 😂 Fantastic work, and I hope more people find their way to your channel
To anyone who is reading this: keep buying physical media so that what videos like this will be unthinkable and we will look back at this video and say “this didn’t age well”
10:45 i was going to write a long comment about the psa but while writing it i accidentally described it as a "piracy ad" and i feel like that accident is able to describe the impact that ad had so much better than anything i could ever put into words.
This digital only idea is terrible and should never happen and if it does happen then they are gonna have to get use to not getting my money until physical media comes back
Awesome video, glad to see there’s still good content being made on here. Oh and your icing is looking stunning today mr. Cheesecake, also FUCK DIGITAL FRIDGES.
Digital only is not a problem on open systems like the PC. It's only a problem on closed systems like Consoles or Streaming, where you can lose access.
It _is_ because you're better than me! But hey, I feel like you've just scratched the surface here. Data/information storage is such a complex aspect of humanity. How we relate to media, the culture around it and the emotional relationship to it is worth exploring in much detail. That 2000s anti piracy commercial went HARD, I can completely relate to you on that one bro :D
I think that digital is kind of a blessing and a curse. On one hand, I hate it because of basically all the reasons stated in this video. The practices with selling AAA games is horrible. However, the upshot is that indie game developers now have a platform that doesn't involve them getting squashed by the publisher. Publishers used to have an insane amount of sway over indie devs, to the point where they were kind of an endangered species for a lot of gaming history. If you wanted anyone to actually play your game, you needed a publisher who was going to hook you up with some physical distribution. It's not that no one downloaded games until recently, but it was a lot more rare, especially when you didn't have a relatively trustworthy platform like Steam.
I’m 38 and I’ve been in Gamer my whole life I have a lot of physical media like stated above but we all are seeing the monster of digital downloads take control.
Funny anecdote, I can't speak to the veracity of this but I've heard several times that the music in the "You wouldn't steal a car" anti-piracy ad was used without permission from, nor compensation for the owners and therefore was technically pirated.
Ive noticed that the innovation in dvd/bluray players is absent in the current market. Modern players are bland black boxes missing front LED panels and buttons.
The real reason a handsome cheesecake would be so upset about digital refrigerators is because youre tired of people being able to push a button and see you. No shame in wanting some privacy man. 😄
Off topic, I started jamming in my kitchen to the music halfway through the video while waiting for my burger to re-hydrate and not half crumbly bun syndrome. (Stick it in an oven safe container with a soaked paper towel completely covering the top, you end up with the bread in a very humid atmosphere, which the bread slowly absorbs while in the oven).
I recently got a VHS player (for $6) and a ton of tapes ($.50 a piece) it’s been nice to go back and see what media was, what I feel it should be. It lost the charm and uniqueness. Now you have to search for shows when shows used to find you
That's an odd way to look at shows and I never thought about that. You really did only see shows you wanted to watch from word of mouth, commercials, and TV Guide magazines you'd get at the store 😂 So fascinating how much media has changed. I hear a lot of new-age music producers for example adding in flaws like cassette pitch shifting and noise to give songs character. Because without those elements, things feel stale like Muzak
I don’t want to go back to VHS. Don’t miss the days of the tape getting caught in the player and having to use pencils to wind it back up. DVD, blu ray/ 4K blu ray I have no issues with though.
I will admit it 4k blu rays are in my mind staples center of physical media. But I also would agree that physical media and streaming services have their financial advantages over one another in their own way like with streaming services the price for monthly streaming is the same cost of each physical disc but me being a man of quality over quantity I would say the financial benefit that 4k discs and all other forms of physical media have over streaming is the fact that you don’t have to pay monthly to keep the rights to watch it. And I’m willing to take my time to afford physical media and save up my money.
I hate what's happened to buying music. I hate Amazon music, therefore I only get to listen to whatever trash I have downloaded on YT. Man even 5 years ago I could get an album off Amazon, download it or rip it and listen to it where and whenever I want with or without internet. GTA San Andreas before the definitive edition.
to be fair, the fridge displays are good when you ddont have alot of counter space and want either a cooking tutorial or recipe, or are hands free and cant open the fridge that second, also alot of them now can allow you to custom mix drinks based on specifications you can program manually.
I kept getting pissed off that we pay for 6 different streaming services and still end up renting every movie i feel like watching, so i started investing heavily into DVDs, going to thrift stores and such usually find them for $1.99 or even .99 sometimes
Hi handsome, really high quality video mr cheesecake. I got like 5 mid roll ads which are more than normal not sure if that’s you or UA-cam but it felt like too much
"you wouldn't download a car" bro if it's a Corolla or Camry and there's a 99% chance that I just get to keep it... Hell ya I would and you should too.
I will always buy physical media especially for games I love, even if I download a game and loved it ill go out and buy it again on discs so I know I'll never ever lose it
When you buy a modern physical video game you dont own it if you dont have internet access you cant play it but that is not the case wite physical movies you dont need internet access to Play blu rays or dvds you do own them and you also get better picture quality on Blu Rays than on streaming!
Not true for most games at least on PS and Nintendo. A small percentage aren’t playable but most games can be finished from start to end without ever connecting online
my problem with digital media is that it allows shenanigans microsoft said that if you didn't convert your mojang account to a microsoft account by a certain time you would no longer own the game and be able to play it online. Now i own a copy mass effect 1 if the company ever changed hands i would still own that copy however i purchased minecraft but i can now no longer play it online. thats theft but somehow its legal.
companies should be forced to provide, care for, and keep usable any digital only media they own for a fair market price as long as they have copyright on that material.
I hope that in a few years that the U.S. government forces these media monopolies to break up per the Sherman Act. The U.S. Government also used the Sherman Act to break up Standard Oil in 1911 and AT&T in 1984.

physical media actually wont die. Is it as popular with the mainstream public as it once was? No. But it will continue on, granted not at its mid 2000s peak numbers, but it certainly has its legion of loyal supporters, myself included. once streaming continues to have its problems, angering subscribers, and people seek better alternatives we could see a resurgence. The LP vinyl record is 1940s technology and its experienced a resurgence. old things become popular again eventually
I am pirating a game I already bought that is offline game, so I can just delete and still be able to get my stuff back without downloading it on steam AGAIN! because I wanna save disk space, repack game is just gods work.😂
Just think about it; Reading, aka access to media, was literally gatekept by the state/church for thousands of years all over the globe. This fully altered the retention of knowledge, what was passed on and how culture developed. And people put up with it, they had no choice.

Ironically "piracy" has helped preserve some older games and media that would've otherwise been lost if not for people having copies of them.
