For the interview with the track promoter we had some pretty cramped quarters. The only room available was the tiny press box, thus the tight camera, and there were a few people on the move between us who were working with the track and such.

Australian Sprintcar Fan here. As much as I (sorta) love Late Models, I have to admit to loving Sprintcars moore, so my question is, do they run Sprintcars and Midgets at this track? I hope they do, it's got that "lived in/raced at" feeling to it as soon as you walk in.

An hour drive for racing on a saturday is never to far.
I used to drive almost 3 hours to go to port royal sometimes haha.

This was just a great watch - thank you for posting. My home town had a "kind of" track (farm paddock), and my brother ran a POS there sometimes, but in a town of 18000, as a kid it was pretty exciting.
Dirt super late model racing is the best form of oval racing in my opinion

@@SteveCannon5I enjoy sprint cars too they just don't come to my part of the country often. And a 60-100 lap late model race on a well prepped track is just perfection.
Sprints, winged or non wing are my favorite but I've recently gotten into late models from watching the lucas oil tour on flo, on a night to night basis that series is awesome to watch

We need Slap to experience the World 100 at Eldora and the Knoxville Nationals. See the 2 biggest dirt shows in the world. And not just the main show on Saturday night, but the entire week of preliminaries. Gotta see and feel the intensity in the air as it gets closer and closer to the big dance. Also if you want true grass roots racing, The IMCA Boone Supernationals in Boone Iowa. Over 1500 cars enter each year for a full week of racing
Kings royal actually broke the eldora track record for attendance last year
But yeah historically the world 100 is eldora's biggest race.
Slap If you ever travel to the midwest for some dirt crown jewels consider the Ironman 55 sprint car race in pevely missouri, high banked third mile gem
IMCA supernationals at Boone is a must see if you ever come to Iowa slap

Take a shot every time he says “y’know” 😂 good people, as someone who races in the upper Midwest, this place is one of those special tracks I wish I could experience just once. Kind of like Talledega, Dixie, Eldora, Knoxville or Tazwell. Just one of those places that sticks out.

I was at the inaugural and the second hav a Tampa shootout. We loved seeing old rex Richey and his old man, in the home grown red #87 running with the big teams

Would love to see you do an episode on either Tazewell Speedway built in 1965, or Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap) built in 1974. Both are examples of older extremely high banked dirt tracks in the far eastern side of Tennessee.

Absolutely. Sadly Farmer City has terrible facilities but a great track many drivers consider the best in the area. Fairbury just has the support and puts on a good show every race. All these massive boring 3/8+ mile tracks on clay just never have the excitement of Illinois bull rings

Florence is a great racetrack, weekly show and the big lucas shows! Just outside Cincinnati in Florence Kentucky
I worked there last summer (hopefully again this year if schedule permits) and I can get him connected with the right folks if he needs

dirt track at home:
I’d rather go to Cherokee or Carolina it’s better down home racing and better atmospheres
Them small town hole in the wall dirt tracks are always better than just about any of those. My local track (Sheridan Speedway in Wyoming) is a half mile dirt track sitting on the side of a hill.
It’s got a couple small bleachers and the hillside has 4 levels of parked cars. To this day, best burgers I’ve ever had in my entire life. They’re only $4 too (can’t remember if it’s a quarter pounder or third pounder though).
Wyoming people are pretty great in general and the atmosphere there is always great. Sheridan Speedway is the most average small town dirt track you’ll ever see, and yet I’d still take it over any Eldora or Bristol dirt bull crap any day of the week.
Bristol dirt? Lmao. Other two I've been combined over 20 times haha 😂

You gotta go to Carolina speedway up in gaston county they have a big race every august the Shriners 100 and they race supers and modifieds and it’s always a fun time it was also started by humpy wheeler and a lot of nascar drivers have raced there

Awesome track! I live in the northeast but try to go anytime im down south. Always have a great time and see some good racing, especially in the lower divisions. And definitely some of the friendliest people you will ever meet are in the south. We got to the track late after breaking down 8 hours into a 9 hour drive, by the time we got there the only available seats were at the entrance to turn 1. If you've been you know. They rarely or barely lift, so we'd get sprayed in dirt every time the late models hit turn 1. Still had a blast!

I got a flosports subscription to watch ncaa hockey and got hooked on this type of racing. It's so cool how the track changes drastically over the course of the race.

To be fair Lancaster Speedway, the last dirt half mile, is about an hour away and having 2 that close would be a strain down here.

It just shows how different regions have such different standards and norms.
Seen plenty of highlights of this place, would love to go there sometime.

I know absolutely nothing about racing, and I’ve never even been to a race. But your passion for and knowledge of the sport is just so darn infectious, and I can’t help but be entertained by your videos.
Nice to see one of my local tracks get some coverage. My closest local track is Lancaster Speedway, which is a half mile track about 90 minutes up the road from Cherokee, but I visit both Cherokee and Carolina Speedway a good bit. Lancaster is the most unique of the group due to its size and layout. East Lincoln is also an area track I’ve been to a few times for their annual Fall Brawl.
Instant like for my home track.
I love Cherokee and going there every weekend in the summer it is so much fun always a great show

1:35 I used to race at patriot in go kart and it’s actually where I got my first ever win leading to 3 championships and 70 wins
There are a lot of videos where people talk about a small track, but this video gives us the feel of the track and the people who go there. Like Tony Adair, it's authentic.

I used to race at Cherokee, great video encapsulating the area and the environment.
my dad and our family put so much time and money into this track a few decades back before it started getting too expensive to race. it was long before i was born but i love hearing stories about my family and this track and going to the races when i can. this track will always be special to me
This is the story for most local blue collar racers. When the support and hobby classes became the Rich man's game, we folded and sold out.
Loved the days of the old half mile. I was there when Ed Gibbons went off turn three where there was no wall.
Loved seeing the Flintstone Flyer, the Night Stalker, Ricky Weeks, HotRod LaMance, and all the rest. The thunder and lightning class was the most intense, with Mike Duvall's boy out there in them.
I wonder how many million farts were in the old cushion mans foam, rental cushions, that we tossed into the old cube truck when the night was done.😊
I actually used to drive from North Carolina to work at the Gaffney cracker barrel, and I loved those people. It's amazing to see the place get some recognition, and for someone else to understand the testament to everyday men just going fast we've built. Thanks for the vid slap.

Great video and nice to see info on local-to-me dirt tracks. I went to Cherokee for my first time late last year when 410 sprints were there before World Finals in Charlotte. I went into the pits for drivers meeting and you’re correct, all the people running operations there are awesome. I wish more tracks around the Carolina’s would try to bring in 410 sprint shows.
Love to see the home town get some love. I live like 5 minutes from the track. When I was a kid I could always hear them racing on the weekends.

This track reminds me so much of the one closest to me -- WIllamette Speedway -- before it got bought out and modernized sometime around 2010. Its like an older supercar without traction control, you know it *could* be better, but something about it not being state of the art is awesome in its own right. I'd love to visit this place sometime, if I'm ever on that coast.

I haven’t been in a bout 2 or 3 years I need to start going again, the racing is always so good that it gets my heart pumping in the stands, this and Carolina speedway are my favorite tracks to go to

Hey man I know you're not going to see this but... I think I rediscovered NASCAR. Not the modern version we all know but the pre-dale death NASCAR. All you have to do is go to your local county fair and watch the Figure 8 Scramble. Now hear me out... It's full of common men doing uncommon things. They may not run in the oval but it is still just as interesting and really damn fast (just not on video lol), it only cost most people with good mechanical knowledge just about $1k-$3k to put cars into the races. It's definitely not cheap but it is cheaper than most race cars. You may also see some of your friends run Figure 8 (And I run it myself), just go to your local county fair and you will see old Nascar with its tough racing, big hits, and just as big fights. You won't know the drivers'personalities but it is still fun as hell to watch.
