16:41 it's debatable if that's the most Tony Stewart comment from Tony, a few years before that, he was racing for the championship against the front runner, Carl Edwards. I believe their was 5 races left in the season. Carl Edwards had just won the race and Tony came in 2nd. Tony walked over to Carl Edwards while he was still in his car and said "Hey Carl, that was fun and enjoy the win because Im going to win the championship and the next few races coming up!" Tony went on to win the next few races and the championship. While in one of those races, after a pit stop set him back, he was heard over the radio saying "Here kitty kitty" while catching up to and passing Carl Edwards to win that race. Now that's a Tony Stewart comment to remember.

I will never understand our obsession as americans with turning everything into the NFL, NBA or whatever. It's stock car racing. It doesn't need overtime, it doesn't need playoffs. It doesn't need freaking quarters and halftime which they call stages. Why does everything have to be a ballgame? We even tried to turn F1 into it when they went to Miami and Vegas with the team introductions just like if they were running out onto a field through a tunnel pumped full of smoke from a smoke machine. Our popular culture is a joke.

Pay a competent engineer to take a pass on how to improve interior car safety of the gen 4’s without changing car performance.

Kyle has mellowed and become more of a family man, and reprioritised his image, Joey still doesn’t care, but he isn’t as blatant with his disrespect on track, and Brad K has gone on to bring one of the greatest NASCAR teams of the modern era back to relevance. That is why most have been redeemed.

The regular season champion needs to be a 1st round bye + 25 pt advantage at the start of the 2nd round.
The long haul seasons long points accumulated need to have a bigger impact on the overall season champ.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any year where the point leader after 26 races was eliminated in the first two rounds. Truex came close last year, but still limped into the round of 8. So I don't see how that change would affect anything.

    I have a solid question:
We've gone over how the post-chase seasons would've gone with the old points systems, but what about the inverse? What if we went back to even 90s seasons and applied the current Chase system to them? What would the standings look like?
I've also wondered if NASCAR had any sort of potential to do a "Classics" race or two, where they'd take older models (with minor safety upgrades) and run those for a weekend. I could see the late 80s early 90s cars being a blast to watch, and potentially give the higher ups a kick in the seat of the pants about what actual NASCAR should look like.

I would note that his video shows how they go under the 2014-2016 system. Playoff points fix some of the most egregious things about that system, like Harvick and Dale Jr.'s winless championships going to Edwards and Kenseth respectively.

My opinion of Bad Brad has softened, racing for Roush and him calming down will do that.
My opinion of Joey(no I won’t use the nickname Mark Martin gave him, he doesn’t deserve it) has only hardened. As a Kenseth fan that Kansas race still pisses me off and he still drives like the physical embodiment of every modern NASCAR drivers worst tendencies. Overly aggressive, late blocks and zero respect for the danger that lies just beneath the surface of every motorsport.

It's nice to see someone talk about NASCAR without bitching and moaning about how it was better in the good ol' days, it's no longer a sport, we can't respect them anymore. Sure, I don't like some of the decisions the governing body is making, but that's not mutually exclusive to enjoying the sport.

I haven't watched this season in eight years and I feel like my recollection of events is better than this video. Nice video and all, but I can't believe you said Jimmie Johnson had an uncharacteristic showing at Dover. It was a rear axle seal failure that put him at least 40 laps down. Kyle Busch was never really in the elimination conversation because the real battle at the end was between Dale Jr and Jamie McMurray. Also, missed this quote that was played during the prerace show for Atlanta:
"If I wanted to take a [beep] day out of my [beep] week and drive a [beep] Nationwide car, I'd take a [beep] day out of my [beep] week and drive a [beep] Nationwide car."
    -Tony Stewart

Another detail to include about Talladega:
The plate races to that point were starting to get controversial. NASCAR chose to ban tandem drafting in the Nationwide and Truck series after Kyle Larson's crash in 2013 resulted in injuries to spectators. The plate race prior to the fall Talladega race was the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona where Austin Dillon's car was launched into the catchfence. NASCAR decided that the crash was the result of overtime finishes and said that for Talladega they would allow only one overtime attempt. On the first attempt, a crash happened that everyone thought would end the race, but NASCAR clarified that the attempt only counts if the leader crosses the start/finish line on the restart. That rule (which was changed to the overtime line rule soon after) is the only way Kevin Harvick would have advanced.

Harvicks bs at Talladega was so embarrasing for the sport. shouldve been blackflagged laps earlier. EVERYONE knew he couldnt make speed. Then the "champion." I respect Kyle Busch, he is immensely talented and i was happy he earned his 2nd later on, but under no circumstances should he have ever been able to win in 2015. The only word i have is embarrassment.

  • @timtwing5886
    @timtwing5886 11 місяців тому +1

This IS the worst season in NASCAR! You don't miss almost a 1/3 of the races and still have a shot at the title and the ONLY reason Kyle obviously did is because of the broken chase format. This system is SO broken and has given 'titles' to drivers who don't deserve them, which is pretty much every driver since 2004 and takes titles away from drivers who do
    Gordon 7
    Harvick 4
    Hamlin 3
    Johnson 3
    Edwards 2
There's SO SO many cases just proving how broken this system is and how bad Nascar 'racing' is today! The system is BROKEN there's no tweaking it here and there for improvement! It's like asking should I build my house out of wood or brick, well it doesn't matter when it's foundation is sand!

9:00 Logano actually talked about that back in a podcast shortly after the fall Martinsville race in 2022.
He said that looking back, that was a really dumb thing for him to do, cause it directly led to what happened at, well, Martinsville later that same year. But to him at the time, he wanted that 3 wins in a row, sinply cause he thought that would look cool.
