Listen i was brutally raped when i was 14. I can promise you a rape victim doesnt want to read those books. It will trigger them. Im 46 and i have dealt with severe ptsd since then. I cant watch special victim svu or any movies with it in it. I cant control my bodies response. I throw up i shake uncontrollably. These people are messed up pushing this on kids

In Maine and 11 year old boy Checked book out of the library in his school and brought it to the schoolboard to read it. It was a very explicit book. In a future video, the mayor of town stood at the microphone at a schoolboard meeting. He accused the entire schoolboard. He told them you will either resign immediately or you will be arrested. All of the United States' cities and towns need a mayor like this.
I've seen a family get ruined by porn. Porn being presented to a child without the consent of parents, and it's one of the most disturbing things. If a parent allows and encourages their children to read this kind of material, then someone should call child services on them.

She is 100% correct. If a child identifies with anything in that book, then police need to open an investigation and arrest those that treated the child that way.
Having read excerpts from the book some of the messages are very powerful about finding identity and forging a new way forward through adversary. Although, the book starts off with noting the incidents being discussed and the main character George grows from this to find "them's" own identity. From, reading more it is a very well written book. Although, can I say if I was a child reading this.... Would I truly understand the scope???? Probably, not.... This should be taught in academia! But not at lower levels. This, should be reserved for people that can truly understand what story is being told...

People are missing just how deceitful Joy is in this exchange. That "permission" form that Joy whipped out doesn't "opt out" from individual books. What the form does is allow the parent to say their child cannot take ANY book out of the library. So if you don't want your child having porn pushed on them and checking pornographic materials out and leaving the library with it then your kid cannot check out any book, but they can still go into the library and sit there reading any book they want to. As someone who was sexually abused by a family member as a child, I would have been horrified to find this book in school. There is a difference between giving a voice and being inappropriate. Also, my mother read every book before I did to make sure it was appropriate for me to read until I was a teenager. That was her right as my mother .
As a teacher, I would feel so uncomfortable having this book in our school. I agree with Brandon sexuality does not belong in the school. We have to inform parents if there is something inappropriate in a book.

If a parent wants their child to read a book like that, they can buy it for them, or check it out of the PUBLIC library. It doesn’t need to be in the school library.

I was a single father raising my 2 kids. They would see a movie trailer, and say they wanted to see it. I let them know that (many times) they wouldn't understand most the movie because it was made for grown ups. I taught them there was stuff made just for kids; and stuff made more for grown ups. Kids don't understand regular grown up stuff... duh. So my youngest mentions in class that I let them watch some grown up movies. I had DFCS banging on my door wondering why I was letting my kids watch PORN!!! (BTW: there was none, and I let them know that!) But to the point: Why isn't DFCS giving a crap about this? This is worse than written porn. A book about child rape, about pedophilia! Why isn't DFCS knocking on the door of the parents who want their kids to read this?!? My friends who have younger kids than mine have been fighting for years to get inappropriate material out of the libraries in both the elementary and middle schools. The parents have no knowledge of the books, it’s their kids who come home and tell them what they pulled out and read in the library. I mean elementary??? It’s absolutely disgusting. I was a volunteer in my children’s elementary school library - before they restricted parent volunteers - the danger of having inappropriate books just in the library on the shelves with all the other books is that kids will pull the book off the shelf and show it to others - so even if a parent says I don’t want my child to check out the book - it’s still in there for library time access. If a parent wants their child to read these controversial books then it should only be available at home.

In Maine and 11 year old boy Checked book out of the library in his school and brought it to the schoolboard to read it. It was a very explicit book. In a future video, the mayor of town stood at the microphone at a schoolboard meeting. He accused the entire schoolboard. He told them you will either resign immediately or you will be arrested. All of the United States' cities and towns need a mayor like this.

People are missing just how deceitful Joy is in this exchange. That "permission" form that Joy whipped out doesn't "opt out" from individual books. What the form does is allow the parent to say their child cannot take ANY book out of the library. So if you don't want your child having porn pushed on them and checking pornographic materials out and leaving the library with it then your kid cannot check out any book, but they can still go into the library and sit there reading any book they want to. As someone who was sexually abused by a family member as a child, I would have been horrified to find this book in school. There is a difference between giving a voice and being inappropriate. Yes, that's why I strongly advise against folks using that "parents can get their kids whatever book they want outside school" - no, they can't. In every other case, giving kids pornography is illegal, at least as far as I know. Folks are being duped into arguing themselves into compromise.
Exactly!! These books are still very much available for purchase and often even available in public libraries. They dont need to be in schools where there is little to no parental oversight (sadly). But then that's the whole point.

It's because of the communist subversion of our country which was authored by KGB spies who infiltrated all elements of society for the specific purpose of not killing people, not stealing secrets, nothing that sounds like spycraft, all they did was plant communist ideas in peoples' heads without them knowing it. The fact is that if they tried to read the relevant passages from that book during that segment of her show, Joy Reid and her show would be booted off the air permanently. It should not be in public school libraries.
If a parent wants their child to read a book like that, they can buy it for them, or check it out of the PUBLIC library. It doesn’t need to be in the school library.
And if they do (buy p0rn0graphic books for any Min0r child), they should be investigated by police.
Once they buy it for them they need to be sent to prison as well.
Joy says that it is the parents "right" to have this book available for their child yet parents have NO rights if their child questions their gender and the family wants to handle it themselves - schools will take their child from them. Double standards to me.

I was a single father raising my 2 kids. They would see a movie trailer, and say they wanted to see it. I let them know that (many times) they wouldn't understand most the movie because it was made for grown ups. I taught them there was stuff made just for kids; and stuff made more for grown ups. Kids don't understand regular grown up stuff... duh. So my youngest mentions in class that I let them watch some grown up movies. I had DFCS banging on my door wondering why I was letting my kids watch PORN!!! (BTW: there was none, and I let them know that!)
But to the point: Why isn't DFCS giving a crap about this? This is worse than written porn. A book about child rape, about pedophilia! My friends who have younger kids than mine have been fighting for years to get inappropriate material out of the libraries in both the elementary and middle schools. The parents have no knowledge of the books, it’s their kids who come home and tell them what they pulled out and read in the library. I mean elementary??? It’s absolutely disgusting. Keep your kids out of public schools if you value their future.
I was a volunteer in my children’s elementary school library - before they restricted parent volunteers - the danger of having inappropriate books just in the library on the shelves with all the other books is that kids will pull the book off the shelf and show it to others - so even if a parent says I don’t want my child to check out the book - it’s still in there for library time access. If a parent wants their child to read these controversial books then it should only be available at home.

I remember reading the book The Kite Runner in 11th grade, and there was a very uncomfortable part where a little boy was gang r@ped. It messed me up. The book they’re talking about seems much more graphic and (for lack of a better word) traumatic.
