I think what makes them unique is that they can genuinely do everything. There's absolutely no genre they could touch on that they wouldn't absolutely nail. Courtney has the range to do deathcore and synthpop, and Mike has the ear to bring anything they want to try together coherently. They're just next level at *everything*.
This and Ultraviolet bring tears every listen.. such beautiful songs. The EP in general is a masterpiece and everything I hoped for.. one continuous piece of music. Added bonus is that Ultraviolet builds at the end so if you loop the EP it flows straight back into Cellar Door. Mindblowing.
The ambience, haunting tones and underlying themes coupled with Courtney’s unique vocal sound and nuances slingshot spiritbox past most other modern metal bands for me. Truly one of my favorite bands.
That choral harmony at the end is the highlight of the album for me. As fun as a surprise breakdown would have been, that felt fresh for them and still elevated the energy to where it needed to be.
I think its their versatility honestly, like whenever new spiritbox stuff drops its always a surprise what its gonna be, but also the consistency of courtney's vocals, and the very tight and big feeling instrumentals, they just kinda fit together so well and it just feels complete, if that makes sense. I cant wait to see where they go next.
I think there have been a handful of bands that can mix heavy with beautiful, but I don't think there are any that go as absolutely HEAVY as Spiritbox. For a band that can clearly write a chill song (Constance, The Summit, etc.) they also have really really heavy (Holy Roller, Cellar Door, etc.) and even some beautiful songs still have really heavy breakdowns (Blessed Be). I can't think of another band that's as beautiful as them that ALSO goes as heavy.
Invent Animate, some Sleep Token. Difference to Spiritbox is, much less pop (IA) or too overdone/rap/experimental, and both almost exclusively melancholically beautiful. Where as The Void for example is just a tiny bit melancholic (mostly bc of the lyrics) and just not anywhere near the level of sadness of 99% of the beautiful stuff of the aforementioned bands.
@@ensco7 Yes. Good points. I agree, except that I'm a Sleep Token worshipper, so I don't find them overdone. But I get what you say. If Lorna Shore ever lets Will do cleans maybe they can pull this off too. But I guess even then it wouldn't be poppy, as you say.
@@christiandauz3742 LP and BMTH have seldom reached a point where they're really heavy and beautiful at the same time, at least in my opinion. Spiritbox are fans of LP but not "huge" fans, they favor like at least 20 other artists that they are influenced by before mentioning LP (it was their gateway band). Idk BMTH's opinion on LP.
The thing i think makes spiritbox so unique is how they are able to create an atmospheric song with simple elements and adds in the background. Be it with guitar or synths. They just have a very original way to write songs. Also the chorus and Courtney's voice always grabs you by the throat. They are also not afraid to think outside of the box, like rotoscope. This fear of fear EP in my opinion is a masterpiece. If they don't win an award for Jaded it's a disgrace.
What makes them special is everyone is invested in making music that is diverse, compelling, and just damn good. Mike is a maestro and becoming one of the top guitarists in the genre. Zev made his presence known on Jaded, and Josh fits...gawd he fits. Courtney. She's in a category all on her own. Love this band from the bottom of my heart.
My intro to Spiritbox was Constance. The video wrecked me. It made me think they have heart and express it powerfully. From there, I've loved their evolution! This song is easily one of my faves.
Even though I have my favorites to listen to often, they are always solid for me. I discovered Spiritbox from another react channel and haven’t looked back. Thoroughly enjoy discovering new music with you. I have several bands that I doubt I would have gotten to listen to without it.
Like all great artists of our time, they have an indistinguishable sound but continue to evolve what they release and aren’t afraid to push the envelope in the direction they want to go.
Spiritbox for me are at their best when utilizing that more melodic sound & or when mixing the melodic with the heavy such as Jaded or some of their older stuff. Not so much a fan of the Holy Rollers, Cellar doors. etc but can appreciate that the fact that they have those kind of capabilities in their repetoire is definitely impressive. (sonically & vocally)
Even though Spiritbox are undoubtedly very skilled musicians, there's always something about their music that just doesn't sit right with me. Like i listen to a song of theirs, think "oh that's cool", then never listen to it ever again (apart from a few - Sun Killer, Eternal Blue, Circle With Me, Hysteria, The Void). This, though, might be the track that finally gets me into them. I am in love with how beautiful this is
To me what makes Spiritbox unique is that they can’t be boxed into a genre. They can do anything from progressive metalcore, to horror metal, to industrial, to metal pop, to deathcore. They can do basically everything.
Best song Spiritbox has ever made in my opinion. Feel free to disagree, but this is just gorgeous. There’s a perfect blend of heavy and melodic on this EP, 10/10
Bogdan, you should really react to the new Novelists song. I feel like since it is out, it has stayed under the radars of many, despite the fact that it is a great song. Thank you for what you do, it is always a pleasure to hear your thoughts about the music we love !
I believe the thing about Spiritbox is that they are just too good at what they do, ambiance and groove is very "them" for sure, but a element that always makes me go to their music is that absolutely no one does modern metal(core) better than them. Best metalcore release of the year hands down for me.
The harmonizing is actually Courtney, Josh, and Mike which is such an awesome touch in this song.

There is a downside to this though I genuinely can’t listen to anything else because whatever my mood is I’m just gonna put on Spiritbox lmao
I genuinely want them to mashup Linkin Park, Korn, Slipknot, Shinedown AND Trivium in one album!
Spiritbox is Spiritbox because of the haunting vocals and atmosphere.
I wish they collaborate with Trivium, Bad Omens, Starset and BMTH

Courtney's voice, and the band's ability to retain their signature sound as they continuously reinvent themselves.
This is my favorite truck off the EP hands down
Cellar door hits like a track
The story telling in this EP is I N S A N E.
The talent, the lyrics and the atmosphere are always so aesthetically packed by Spiritbox. Love the whole EP especially this track.

White chapel does it better imo

How do you think all these bands and BMTH compare to Linkin Park?
Did you guys know both Spiritbox and BMTH are huge fans of LP?

What’s makes them unique is that they can do any genre of music and still make it sound like Spiritbox
honestly probably my fav track off of the ep
They did some behind the scenes videos on Instagram, both Josh and Mike recorded vocals for this EP :D

Spiritbox is truly one of a kind. A day to remember has always been my “favorite band”, but this EP put spiritbox at #1 for me.
This EP has given me the inspiration to start writing again. I love it so much.
A perfect song, from a perfect EP, from a perfect band!
Even though I have my favorites to listen to often, they are always solid for me. I discovered Spiritbox from another react channel and haven’t looked back. Thoroughly enjoy discovering new music with you. I have several bands that I doubt I would have gotten to listen to without it.
This one is my favorite on this EP. Listen to it so much. It’s their ability to make such a dark song seem also uplifting that to me is so unique.
As a casual who tends to lean more towards Pop / Rap / R&B, this song definitely drew me into Spiritbox and i'm now a huge fan.
Like all great artists of our time, they have an indistinguishable sound but continue to evolve what they release and aren’t afraid to push the envelope in the direction they want to go.
Im very happy I discovered spiritbox by the void with spotifys discover weekly🔥🙏 Loved it the first second I heard it too
Glad you liked this one, too.
This was one of my favorites off the album so good!
So so beautiful songs from this band 😍😍😍😍

Blew my mind when I realised this song and Ultraviolet link😮

We can’t forget that Josh probably helped write a lot of this… put some respect on his name!

Duuuude, new allt track will blow your head for sure

Love this song I personally think it's the best off the EP!
Really close between this and Jaded for my favorite off the album. Too close to choose one honestly.
I believe the thing about Spiritbox is that they are just too good at what they do, ambiance and groove is very "them" for sure, but a element that always makes me go to their music is that absolutely no one does modern metal(core) better than them. Bro you gotta listen to the new Allt song, literally unbelievable
Bogdan not telling me to comment anymore but I still will.
Thank you
She sounds a lot like Dido.
Here's how good Courtney is: she uses Autotune and I like it.
Way better than Eternal Blue
Brother have you checked the new Allt. track yet?!
New Allt babyyy
Do the new Megan the stallion song lol
bro but where is the Allt reaction :(
Honestly, I love spiritbox but they really sound very samey now. It’s getting frustrating. A lot of songs sound the same
easily the weakest most generic track on the ep
