I'm from the US, and from Portland, Oregon where Steroidal Giant was first introduced commercially by Cistus Nursery. I have not seen anything but Steroidal Giant in person, but watching all the videos from the UK with the T Rex, I personally can't tell the difference between them. I always thought it was just a difference in name only. Maybe others can comment on it. They generally grow to the 15'-20' height. Leaves will get close to 4 foot across, I know that I've measured my old plants and they were in the 42"-44" range. I've moved but took some pups with me to start over again.
Interesting - thanks for taking the time to reply. I found a post on the forum that suggests similar leaf shape with a slightly different colour but actually smaller leaf size compared to rex. It does seem to have slightly different colouring. Ill have to see how it grows this year!
I have 4 all bought as Rex all are different 1 is definitely standard and suckers a lot. The others are all Rex forms but all a little different love them all.
Yeah it seems like there is so much variation in leaf shapes even within the "forms". All of them look great so any are a good addition to the garden aren't they
There definitely looks to be a colour difference on the two but a similar leaf shape. Never seen a Cornish deep grooved - sounds intriguing. I’ll have to check it out. Where did you get it from?
Awesome ! I have quite a few but know little about them so thanks for the learns. I have one called the Rex "Mulu" form? Is this a 6th variety or one of the others just with a different name?
@@TropicalGardenUK Amazing plants :-) I want them everywhere! Yes thats what I have read. I suppose its a slight variation on the Rex form, which makes it all the more special to me lol. You hasve some amazing plants.
@@GrowTropicalMK if you have any pictures or videos of it it’d be great to see it! I think there’s so much variation in the forms they all look great. I was going to try and get an empress or meifeng but they seem to be tricky to get ahold of!!
@@TropicalGardenUK Its all a bit hectic at the moment ! About to smash out a Sambucas Black Tower video, put that Mulu in place next to what I think is a tradtional Rex form. Crazy times!

@@TropicalGardenUK I have videos of some of mine. But they were small compared to many around the city.
Ah cool I’ll check it out if they’re on your channel 👍 what other varieties do you guys have in the US?
I’ve never seen anything other than Steroidal Giant in person, but I have seen photos of the regular form in the SE and California.
Know any nursery having/selling them in socal?

I've got a Cornish Deep Grooved 'Rex'. Seem's to be darker, glossy, larger leaves that aren't flat.
Saying that, your second 'Rex' is much more like the Cornish one! Notice the gloss on the leaves

Great plants aren’t they! I’m not 100% sure but it could be a Rex form perhaps from mulu nursery? I believe I’ve seen them posted before 👍
