I want to thank everybody for the kind feedback on my video. It saved me hours when I finally figured this out. Im so happy I was able to make your GB lives a bit easier :) the new GB allows you to use multiple drummer tracks now using different drummers. I haven't messed with this as I prefer a simple way to lay down songs. Im sure my midi technique will still apply to this new feature anyway. Thank you everyone!!!!
Thank you kind sir. I stumbled across this really by accident. Ive never seen anyone else cover this trick. But HOLY CRAP has it brought more life to my drums. Rock On! B
Brandon Parson's garageband drummer tutorial is the best I've ever come across- far superior to anything that I've found out there( you tube , etc...) Thank you so very much, PLEASE- more on everything in garageband( including drummer) !!! Great job, very useful, practical, and spoken in easy to understand terms .
Thank you Kind SIR!! That makes me happy. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have and ill be sure to help. Check out my other vid on my channel as I show how to separate kicks and snares on different tracks for further editing. :) B
Wow, I can't tell you how helpful this video was! I've watched so many other tutorials but none of them were so clear and straight forward as this one. Thank you so much!
I'm glad I found this, I've just recorded my first track and had no idea this feature of arrangement existed. Thank you for sharing, it will save me a lot of time!
Thank you for the comment. Yah it’s one of those things. If you spend a couple of minutes before you start shredding to lay down a foundation,it saves a heck of a lot of time and headaches. Old rule says, crap going in equals crap coming out. I’ve made the mistake of just throwing down a jam and recording it and sounds great, but spend the next few weeks refining and adding to it and getting lost wasting time trying to punch in and try and recapture the OG patch I used without success. When if I’d have just stopped and thought for a minute or two before recording to lay down my foundation, it would have made the entire remainder of the song so much easier. Rock on! With patience of course;(
I’m so happy it helped. When I discovered this trick, I knew I had to share it. Sometimes I just get the drummer mildly close and then take to midi right away. Almost easier to get the kick where you want it with midi. Fills are much easier in the drummer track though. Get them close and then minor tweak. Don’t forget to have your drummer play softer in the verses and then louder in the choruses. If you don’t, it takes forever to change the velocity of each midi hit. Also, hi hat in the verses and ride in the choruses ;) Thanx for watching.
Yah man. I Have 2 videos out there really focusing on this. Also try changing the velocity of the kicks and snares intermittently to create more of a life like feel. Definitely check out my other vid on my channel. It goes deeper. Showing how to put you midi drums on separate tracks. I mainly do this with the kick and the snare. That way you can take the reverb out of the kick so its cleaner. Also being able to EQ kick and snare separately. Have fun. Glad I could help. B
I really cannot thank you enough for your 1st tutorial on garageband's drummer. It provided enough information for me to go much further on midi than I had ever imagined. Still referencing the 1st and trying to learn from the 2nd, but the volume is very low on my phone on the 2nd one!!! But once I remedy that, I'm sure I'll learn some more very useful tips. My hat off to you Brandon, (like your vibrato on guitar also!) you truly are a hero in my book!!! Thanks again!!! John A. Mansfield

I agree with what so many others said. Hearing (& seeing) the big picture and how to structurally put the song together was really helpful! Thanks for putting this out there.

This was so helpful! Thank you! Copying and pasting the track to midi blew my mind. I was getting so frustrated trying to copy and paste on the drum track. Because when you try to delete and add a fill to the drum track, it always changes the entire drum track. I always ended up with two fills one right after the other.
That's the thing with the drummer track. When you lengthen it, cut it, shorten it, it will change the pattern you just worked so hard to complete. This is why I kept trying to figure out a way to avoid that. I'm now on Logic. But it's still set up the exact same way. I've never recorded a song without doing this trick since I found it. Thanx for watching! B
Yes cowbell can be added. With this you can have as many drummers as you want. Drummer tracks are limited. But once you change it to midi, it's no longer a drummer track. Hey Brandon, thanks for your informative UA-cam video. I’m at the early stages of learning how to introduce drums into my home recordings. How do I change from a drummer using sticks to brushes? Again, great information!
Thank you for watching!!! Unfortunately you can’t play with brushes using the drummer feature. You would have to copy and paste the entire drum track onto a software instrument track into midi. However you’ll have to make sure the drum kit you load as your patch contains a brush hit. I haven’t ventured to see which one has it. You could also find a brush hit in your sound library. Also try different drummers and pull the ball down to soft and see if one will do it. Most will be a stick hit or block. Good luck!!!!
Very interesting. I'm neither a drummer nor a guitar player, but trying a whole bunch of other stuff. I think the tips from this should transfer to Logic Pro X too, as quite a few features are either the same, or similar. Maybe these would also work in the iOS version of Garageband - I don't see why they shouldn't.
GREAT VIDEO.I suppose with the latest update, using multiple drummer tracks offers possibilities for drum track(s)perfection.I generally still use midi to get small parts exact.I use other drummer tracks for adding new percussion sounds--and there plenty of need to get those sounding real.I may also use another track to layer drum kits--if it could help it("sometimes using ez-drummer . Hi Pop Rockers! B here. I wanted to mention that when you copy drums to midi, Make sure that the midi track has the exact same EQ, Effects, and whatever other parameters you may have set on the drummer track. Otherwise It will clearly sound different in the midi parts. I forgot to mention that in my vid. Watch my new vid on my channel to dive deeper into this midi trick I showed you. It gets very exciting. I show you how to have your kick on a separate track. And your snare on a separate track. This is the only way to get EQ control on specific instruments of your kit. I like to take most or even all the reverb out of the kick. Gives a cleaner sound. you will also be shocked at the control over the snare you have. EQ the crap out of it to make it perfect for your ears! Good luck and thanx again for watching. Pop and Rock On! B

If you’re talking about the arrangement track then you have to shrink it down. It gets tricky working with the sizes of them. It will always be intro there though. If you want it something different then just change the name of it. It’s just a guide to let the song know where it is. If you want nothing in the intro section, you can rename it “silence” if you like. Once you open arrangement track, there always has to be a bar named something. Hope this helps. Thank you for watching :)
Drag a drum loop from your loop library on the far right to a track. Then click the loop icon next to the record button on your main playback control bar. It will highlight a yellow bar on the top of your tracks in the time increment bar. You can then slide it left or right and stretch it or shrink it depending on the section you wish to have it loop. Have fun
Create a new track and select drummer track. And it will automatically put drums in and you can tweak them to make any beat you want. Then as I said before, hitthat loop button and jam along. That’s the easy way. Or create midi drum notes on a software instrument track. There’s a lot on UA-cam for that simple procedure.
hey robert. i hope you were able to loop your drums. its as simple as hitting that twirled arrow button on your playback control area next to the play button. itll bring up a yellow bar up at the top of your song and then you can slide it left and right and expand it or shrink it over the part you want to loop. i also use this loop feature for recording a part. bit be careful as itll keep looping and record over your part you just nailed. i set it atleast 4 bars before and after the section i want to record. that way when i get it right after several times, i have time to stop it before it records over it. its been a while so im sure youve already figured this out. keep on rockin in the GB!!! @@brandonparsons3472 before I get a iPhone that has garage band.I just want to know can you drag the tracks to garage band.Cause the way my phone is set up I have the tracks on the screen on my phone but I not the software or garage band ?
i think if you don’t have a Mac or an iPhone you probably have to pay for it. I’ve always had a Mac since 1993 and an iPhone since 2003 so always had GarageBand since its conception. You may have the icon but not the program not sure. Click on it and see if you can download all of the sounds and loops for free. Even still. IDont believe you have the same parameters for song recording and editing on a phone as you would on a computer. I’m just not as familiar with availability and compatibility of software as i am with using it. If you don’t have a Mac or an iPhone, i highly suggest acquiring one. Pricy i know but it’s the cutting edge bar setter. Rock on

Rock on
What is the name of your intro music?
