Question, if this is suppose to be NRL "Hunter," Who brings a tripod and 2-3 support bags with them hunting? And this is Colorado. Wouldn't you make this more a elk style event? I would LOVE to see these shooters hike 4 miles in the mountains, not the flat lands, with all their shooting gear they will be using in the competition. Including their clothing they want to use for the whole day, just like hunting. If they can do that in a "reasonable" amount of time, then go ahead and use it. Bc after you max out a 16lb rifle and your hunting layers. You're not bringing a tripod and 2-3 bags with you on a 4 mile elk hunt. And show me 1 hunting video of anyone shooting off the side of their tripod, ever. It's not a common thing, unless you do this event. This is what stopping new people from trying to join these event. Because you're allowing people to break their bank account with ridiculously expensive gear because they only have to carry it 20-30ft. No new shooter is going to look at this event and think they want to spend the $5,000 on a custom rifle. But then you're looking at another $3,000-4,000 in gear. AND THEY HAVE SPONSORS. What new shooter is going to want to compete against these shooters? It's either all or nothing. And shooting just for fun and not fpr score is fun but it's not what this event is about. I would love to shoot these events but after watching all the gear, rifles and sponsors you NEED to have, it's impossible for me to even care to show up for even the non-scoring shoot. Why not just call it, NRL Luxury Deer Hunting Series.
I was excited to hear about a relatively new hunter-oriented rifle competition called NRL Hunter. I must admit disappointment that this competition doesn't resemble actual hunting scenarios or use common hunting equipment. What was displayed in this video was little more than mobile benchrest shooting in a field. Seems like field positions and marksmanship skills have been replaced with crutches of various form factors. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. It's just kinda strange as I've lived in and hunted the Rocky Mountains for over 30 years and never came across anyone packing a tripod and shooting bags, never mind an 11 to 16 pound hunting rifle. 😆 Usually, folks are reserving that payload capacity for water, snacks, clothing, and carrying out the meat.
Did my first one this year and man was this a freaking blast!!! Great work guys!!!
