BYD Atto 3: First Southern Hemisphere production car walkthrough

- Опубліковано 5 сер 2024
- We grabbed the key card to a new production New Zealand-spec BYD Atto 3 and spent the entire time filming a walkthrough for our subscribers. We even take it for a very short drive at the end.
This car is impressive! The video is a little rough though as we created a 14 minute video in under an hour of filming time!
We have a lot more BYD content - and other EV brands as well - coming soon, so subscribe for more. - Авто та транспорт
I am Chinese. BYD has invested and built a factory in our city, but it is too difficult to order a BYD Han now, and it takes a long time to wait.
Will be going up to the BYD factory near Shanghai later this year, and maybe Shenzhen too!
Really liked the HAN as i heard price was very similar, but was forced to go the ATTO 3 by ball and chain. Maybe the HAN was to fast or not enough of a family car perhaps?
Is the Han lower in seating height compared to the ATTO 3?
Thank you China for making this car, you are helping save the planet from global warming catastrophe, Much respect to you.
The world is watching.
Did you use VPN?
are u sure? my friend said there is a huge stock in china but the price is only half compared to nz
this car has no ancap crash test. good luck to everyone with this car
Appreciate the early review! Looks like a well built car that’s excellent value. Can’t wait to get into one of these in Australia 🙏🙂
Your patience will be rewarded :)

It's too early to judge.. Wait for the real world reviews and get one.. Else you would be the test subject for the Company.
Hi Tesla Tom!
I'm impressed. Up to now I have been thinking Model Y and Ionic 5, but an entry level car with the features that the Atto has would do me fine. Look forward to seeing further videos.
All good options. But I think its closer in spec and space to a 3 than a Y despite the SUV shape.
@@EVsBeyond How tall is it compared to an SUV style car?
@@EVsBeyond The one thing I wonder is, is the screen removable?
I could imagine a lot of windows being smashed in cities if it can't be stashed away.
Like your simplicity in explaining features and quality etc. will be back for more!!

Thanks for the early insights. Loved it and eager to watch your full experience end of the month. Subscribed and liked.
Awesome, thank you!
Fantastic video. I wish we got this in Australia soon enough. Looks like a great value proposition.

Very impressive vehicle. Thanks for the great review.
Thanks for watching!
Build your dreams...BYD, cannot wait for the Atto coming
Great review- hoping this model along with the EA1 Dolphin come to UK -look forward to your next review-Thanks 🚗👍
The Byd Han and Seal sedans are just as stylish as this. Hope the right hand drive reaches us to test it.
Han unlikely, but Seal is locked in for late this year!
Excellent review🥺Ordered my one in Mar, can’t wait!
Hope you enjoy it!
Great review, looking forward to more videos when you get your atto.
Coming soon!
I am having a BYD petrol car for 4 years now, and it has been without any issue. They make solid cars. I am waiting for their electric cars to launch here.
Great to hear!
But they don’t make ICE cars 🤷🏽♂️
@@VerticalFreedom WTF yes they do, they are a relatively old EV automaker scaling up in the early 2000s started with compact Petrol cars. Then they moved onto PHEV with Petrol Engines and only started BEV production with the e6 in 2009. They still sell Petrol engine PHEVs.
@@Neojhun okay okay….I stand corrected 🙏🏾
@@VerticalFreedom Thats correct today but they have done it before. Today they do Phev and Bev
Thank you for the presentation. Hahaha oh the Gzzz. Excellent.
This just popped up, I wasnt expecting to see these in NZ till next year! Thanks Laurie. Tokoroa
Byd is very undervalued,no one knows them in Europe.
I would choose this over Tesla,vw,opel etc...

Good job for the first test drive.
thanks for first testing!!~~ cannot wait....
Bloody impressive spec for the price.
Great review.
Bring on the BYD onslaught.
Can't wait for the Atto 4!
Will be interesting to see how the reliability/build quality stacks up after the new car feels wear off and they have a few ks on board.
Atto 4 please.

yeah, atto 4 is the real deal. it makes model 3 look like a plastic toy.
Why the stupid cryptic Atto names? What the cars are originally called in China would be perfect. Atto boy importer call them what they really are.
@@trythis2821 atto 3 is called yuan plus in china, that makes no sense in english. atto 2 and 4 are called dolphin and seal respectively. those names are ok.
Thanks for a great review and surely one of the first Right Hand reviews. 😄 Definitely something to consider I. Australia and New Zealand. Thanks again
We think there was one review of a pre-production RHD car in Australia :)
@@EVsBeyond yes there was one R/h review of the Australian one.

Nice review! I am looking forward to seeing a heap of these on NZ roads soon.
They are here now! Test drives start at dealerships this weekend I believe.
Finally, I found the person who reviews the system of the car. Unlike other channels that only review the design.
Good job 👍

Thank you for doing this review. I can't wait to receive the car in September!
Maybe sooner?
@@EVsBeyond I placed my order through Andrew Simms. Their website said September 2022 but if it comes sooner I would be stoked!
If you ordered early it will likely be sooner ;)
@@EVsBeyond I placed my order on 28 June after I watched the VOD for your livestream, five days after the preorder books opened. Fingers crossed!
We also ordered a few weeks ago and went for our test drive today. They told us cars arrive mid-late September. However, the person I have been dealing with (at Andrew Simms in Newmarket) said delivery might be earlier than that.
Congratulations on getting your own car.

Wow looks good
Nice car! Nice review! Nice presentation! Subscribed! Liked! Shared!😄👍
Thank you so much 👍
Thanks for the review. Would be great to see a video that includes what it looks like at night - especially the ambient lighting :-)
Nice review 👌
Glad you liked it
That's amazing fitout value for an entry level vehicle
It's actually not an entry level vehicle it's almost top specification with the equivalent Yuan Plus in China which includes auto parking, 15.6 infotainment screen and optional Continental brand wider tyres. It also has a few more cameras and sensor on the Yuan Plus in China that's not on the Australian and NZ Atto 3.

Looks great. I'm hanging out for the BYD Seal myself, seems like its on a really good platform.
I saw one of these randomly driving round Christchurch a few weeks ago
Will definitely go to see the seal (atto 4?) in person once demos are available in the showroom in Australia, specially the dual motor performance version.
I live in Costa Rica, Central America and they've just recently arrived here, I'm going to check out the nearest showroom on Thursday and I'm excited to see what it looks like and what the wait times etcétera are.
Good job bud
Praying BYD brings this to Zimbabwe. Only one car on offer here, the E6. But this is a Fantastic car.
I must admit to smiling through that whole video. However, it's going to make the wait until October so much harder... 👍
(subbed too...) 🙂
Are you not in the first 300?
Sobbed cos I have to wait until Nov Dec .

awesome👍
I love that the screen rotates lol
Tesla can’t beat that!
Thanks for uploading this thorough review which is enjoyable to watch. I'm just wondering does it come with a spare tyre perhaps in the boot or underneath the car?
Inflation and temp repair kit.
Any pictures of under the bonnet? Curious to see if the RHD version is subjected to the has the same AC pipe water leaking/condensation problem Chinese owners are reporting?
Looks really good. Have one on order now.
Good move!
Hi Richard, am curious as to where you got the charge curve graph from as I have not seen it anywhere else online
just ordered $57999, 420kms, its really the car for today!
model 3 owner here. rly like the car. hope for BYD to enable a bluetooth key like tesla has. thats a feature i LOVE so much
There will be phone locking and unlocking but unclear if this will be an instant automated system like tesla, or a button push in an app.
BYD app can do it for you with all controls from the phone
the app allows you to operate the car even half way accross the world. i don't bother with bluetooth. you can use the nfc function of your phone to lock and unlock the car, just tap on the driver side rear mirror.
Same colours as I ordered…. Nice……
I was team blue but that white/grey one got me thinking…
Heated front seats have justed be added to the BYD Atto 3 downloadable brochure for Australian vehicles.
Re charge port beside drivers side door. Are there 2 ports, one type 2 for charge and 1 standard 10 amp port for V2L and if yes, can they both be plugged in at once?
It’s a ccs combo port. You’ll plug in a v2l adaptor like an Ioniq.
Does regenerative braking work with adaptive radar cruise control? I understand the MG loses regen when cruise control is activated.
It does!
going to book a test drive, and going to trade in with my car.
Where can you get charging curve from? Is it for ATTO3?
This was supplied to us by BYD. We will test it ourselves when we get the time.
she's a beauty
You forgot the voice commands. Also, how do the screens handle direct sunlight either from the rear or through the sunroof?
Thanks, wonder what the diff will be between NZ and AU versions?
We don't know yet. Ours are certified to ECE initially, they had to wait for ADR. Spec otherwise the same.
Nice review and excited for those looking for an affordable, feature-packed EV. One minor question; does it have a heated steering wheel?
Chinese authorities are investigating BYD....Dangerous battery's ua-cam.com/video/zrNLz2tX3ys/v-deo.html
Not in NZ.
Hey Richard, does the Atto 3 have park assist? Thanks
Sensors but not self parking.
I am an Electric Viking fan and now a fan of yours too...just curious, how come you kiwis get a preferred treatment in this BYD delivery saga...😄😄😄
New Zealand takes select international vehicle standards, while Australia requires their own. Our cars are certified to ECE - the European standard. The cars were already certified to that.
@@EVsBeyond Good to know, thank you for explaining!
Looking at a BYD for our next family car if and when they start importing to Europe. Not expecting this to be for a couple of years at least though but by 2025 can’t wait to see what they’ll be like by then. By the looks of the Atto 3 they should have some seriously good cars available by then.
This was a car based on ECE spec, so may not take as long as you think!
I believe byd will import to europe by 2023 as byd really hopes to open eu market
What is the difference between NZ and AU Market for the Atto 3?
Less expensive in Australia than NZ.
With the new software update coming in Septmeber, do you know if they will release an app so you can control from your phone and if you will be able to schedule charging?
that software has existed for 2 years. they need to upload it to google play. you don't need the car key after that. i don't even know where my car key is, because i never use it.
@@qilu2004 not in NZ. The cars have only just arrived here.
@@leannetarrant1552 maybe one can try asking the sales agent for an apk file to install the app on the phone then. iphone will be trickier.
Great review. But a question on the charging curve. Does anyone know if that 88.2kW etc at the charger, or that car. Charging losses can be 10% to 15% so it would make a noticeable difference.
Can't be sure. But it is 10-15% more than claimed so perhaps the former?
@@EVsBeyond Thanks. I have done quite complete calculations, and even allowing for the 10-15%, still would charge in reasonable time.
Hey mate, does it come with heated seats in the front? Excellent first look btw.
For NZ it does :)
I just checked, the aussies dont get it ! Lame. Time to move to Queenstown!
@@ridsdas We do now :)
front seats are heated and air ventilated, the latter uncommon on entry level cars.
@@EdBrown1 indeed so i heard. Great news
Heated seats? Ordered one for the Mrs and she was pissed when I told her no heated seats! Are they heated for the NZ climate? Thx for the review, looking forward to having a play.
They sure are!
is there any ancap crash rating for byd?
Love evs
Does this BYD in NZ have heated front seats.
Why yes!
Would really appreciate an early review comparison with the MG ZE EV and the BYD Atto 3.
BYD is much welcome in china than MG Shanghai.
Meg's ev sales number is even less than 5% of byd's sales number.
MG sucks compared to byd.
Are they Matrix LEDs?
That interior is straight out of Earth Final Conflict! No? Maybe some other sci-fi series?
That is a good thing, right?
Is there 1 pedal driving mode?
No
With out MG we just crank maximum regen and that is close enough.
👏
In Singapore, the Atto 3 is on sale @ $178,888.00. Due to our silly taxes and COE. Nightmare for buyers in my tiny State country.
Yeah the E6 was also over $100k, but at least that one was popular with taxi companies so hopefully made back the cost in fuel savings.
How about you buy in Malaysia and use it in Singapore? Your government is trying to put everyone on public transport, good thing!
Singapore has excellent public transport though and compared to other cars, relatively cheap. Singapore doesn't want to support too many privately owned cars.
Did you ask when the BYD seal if/is coming to NZ? not a fan of the interior of the atto but the seal looks ace.
It is! Late this year/early next.
Does BYD atto 3 have & use 12V battery like Tesla?
There is a lead acid battery for starting
It's an Australian specification vehicle all the Atto 3s that arrived in Auckland were loaded onto the Don Juan in NSW. The Don Juan left Japan and sailed directly to NSW with no stops along the way. Australian and NZ atto 3 specifications are identical, the only difference is the price and the warranties offered between the 2 countries and perhaps isofix locations.
The NZ units are here under an ECE (European) compliance standard. BYD Auto NZ assures me they did not get loaded in Australia. Our understanding is the front airbag deactivation switch would not pass ADR anyway.
@@EVsBeyond follow the ship route buddy it doesn't lie and probably why you were given these test vehicles because of our stringent compliance rules and regulations and the reason why we are all waiting longer for our Atto 3 to arrive because of our ADRs not being met.
@@Peter-vn8ue We went to the source and spoke to BYD...
@@EVsBeyond well a lot of us here followed the Route of the Don Juan and after it left Japan it came straight to NSW with no other port stops inbetween then went onto Auckland so you can take away from that what you want. So have you got 300 Atto 3 vehicles in NZ currently or was just 15 to 20 Test vehicles that arrived?
Before going to Japan the Don Juan was in Shanghai... 20 test vehicles. Next contingent later this month.
Did you notice if the front seats lay down so you can nap while charging?
No sorry. Will check when we get it.
I think yes, and with the AC on, yep, I love it.
How much bigger than the mg zs ev?
Physically it is slightly bigger than the MG ZS, but I think the ZS feels and is from a practical perspective a little larger inside.
What tyres did it come with? Heard they are the same ones they have in China and not Michelin or other EV specific tyres such as ePrimacy. Need a suction cup for your camera like pretty much every other EV UA-camr uses from Bjorn to Kris to Chris to Andy to Kyle, etc, etc. Wonder what the differences in NZ to AU specs are then.
A) Atlas Batman B) I have several, but this was a last minute opportunity so I used what I had to hand. C) Only BYD Australia knows the differences!
I'm swapping my Chinese brand Linglong Atlas tyres over as soon as my Atto 3 arrives to Continental Eco contact 6 tyres which are specifically designed for Evs a slightly better tyre at handling than the Michilen equivalent and not as expensive.
The safety technology on both the Australian and NZ vehicles are identical as well as wheel and tyre size. Apparently NZ will get heated front seats, but the rumour mill in Australia is saying we will too.
Personally I'm not fussed either way, none of my previous cars have had heated seats and our winters in SA are not as cold as other parts of Australia, we don't get snow in the suburbs.
The car's name in China is "Yuan", which means to commemorate China's Yuan Dynasty. It is only the smallest car in BYD's "Dynasty" series. The best selling cars in China are "Song" and "Tang". If you can see these two cars with your own eyes, you will definitely think that other brands of cars are the same. Like the mobile phone 20 years ago, it has no value in existence. Because BYD's sales in China hit 130,000 cars a month.
I hope they keep the infotainment screen as an Android tablet as they used to be. This way will the most useful infotainment screen in all cars
Also Regenerative break should turn on break lights in every EV because it's a safety matter
Chinese authorities are investigating BYD....Dangerous battery's ua-cam.com/video/zrNLz2tX3ys/v-deo.html
We understand it is android based, and an Android-based app store launches later this year.
Range and price?
This one? $52k or $58k before subsidies, with ranges of about 300 and 400km.
Thinking about this as A taxi option.
TBH I think the MG would be the better taxi. More upright in the rear making it feel more spacious, and the boot is far larger.
My only question is when it will come to Canada and US?
It won't, it poses national security issue for the US
@@nzsolel5284 yeah you are probably right. I heard China is banning Tesla EVs in certain areas, but I’m surprised it still allows them in most parts of the country.
@@theinfralink6598 Canada perhaps

As I´ve heard, first thing you need to do when buying this car is swaping silly Batman tires with Bridgstone Turanza one, ASAP! Your life and security on the road starts with tires, then all other staff.
Did you say there was no vehicle to load power points in the car
Also any decision on bringing the BYD van in yet?
Cheers
There is no internal power points (other than usb and 12v). The car will come with a V2L adaptor that plugs into the CCS2 port.
@@EVsBeyond Are there 2 ports, one type 2 for charge and 1 standard 10 amp port for V2L and if yes, can they both be plugged in at once?
Is servicing plan for this car cost $3100 in AU.
love the look of the car - especially the "art deco" insides. wish they would bring it to Oz with a petrol turbo = would put my order straight away
Oh, you are funny ;)
There is conflicting info on the quantity of Atto 3 in NZ, media are saying 300, yet no customer delivers until late August seems a long time away
20 demos are here now. Another large shipment arriving end of July. But they will take time to process. I suspect Ateco has watched the fun in Australia and is underpromising to overdeliver.
@@EVsBeyond Any in Christchurch yet? Will have to go and check out Euromarque this weekend
Some may have been spotted at Lytleton...
@@EVsBeyond Yeah I read an article that said the Australian importer really messed up by not getting the all important Australian design rules approval, while brands like Mercedes and Tesla with their Model Y have already got theirs and still don't even sell them in Australia yet!
IMHO, it'd probably be better if they replaced the rear marquage with "Bring Your Dollars". Being straight-forward gives an honest, no-B$hitting image, which could help for a début.
Does it warn you, that the charging cable is attached? I have this fear of ripping the wall mount charging station.
Actually that does happen, I frequently forget that I have my charging cable still attached when overnight charging at home. I haven't tried it for this model, but every EV I've driven, does not allow you to drive away with the charging cable attached, whether it's charging or not. I'd expect it to be the same for BYD. They're a pretty mature EV company.
