I got this for my boy when he lost his first tooth for 133 euro with stretch goal box off eBay. Worth every penny. Vanilla MU with spider verse gathering dust in the corner, albeit without a stretch goal box
I admit that I completely missed the 1st kickstarter and then went all in on the 2nd for the X-Men because it's the X-Men and I don't know about you but I was an X man fan growing up at the nineties. But I had never played Marvel United so just this past week I managed to get the 1st base game for like half price on Amazon. Just so I have some practice and idea of how to play the game. But I am really excited to eventually get my pledge.
You are in for such a great treat, I missed the 1st season and only did the base pledge for X-Men, and I regret that I didn't do more. I'm excited for you to get your pledge

you’re ok missing out on almost everything from the first campaign. The only things that might be worth getting picked up is maybe the stretch goal box but most likely the sinister six expansion or the infinity gauntlet. otherwise buying individual characters from the stretch goal box is probably better than buying them all as I prefer the X-men and now they’re more unique and more complete overall. I was also totally an x-men fan as well. I had more trading cards than I care to admit
@ I was thinking maybe one or two but the few times I've checked ppl selling some of the ones I want your talking $10-20 a figure. Maybe more depending on the figure. But if I buy the whole kickstarter second hand from an online gaming store it's about $390, divide by say 9 Boxes, that's $43 a box. Or divide $390 by 87 figures (I think) that's $4.48 a figure. Now that includes the cards, the tokens, locations, everything. I almost think it would be a better buy to buy the whole set second hand and sell off the pieces I don't want. But then I have to actually do it.... Edit: actually, you know they still have characters missing, they have to do a 3rd version. I'll wait till then and see if they allow you to buy the other waves again like they did for the second wave.
@@ketami2 if youre an xmen fan. You really are in for a treat. Mojo, Phoenix and Legion are so cool as villains. And pretty thematic. Phoenix villains feels like fighting in the xmen movie.
Thank you for the video. As someone who did not back the KS, what would you recommend picking up at retail? For instance, just the core box? Is retail viable?

yeah, the core of X-Men is totally viable as a place to start. Then it’s probably picking and choosing what you really have interest in after that. The biggest bang for your buck by far would be just then picking up the stretch goal box. That would be more than enough for a very long time by itself.
I just picked up the wal-mart version of the base game for $15 cause my daughter really wanted to play as venom, although I personally was more interested in this X-men version. Your review did a great job showing the pros of the x-men version vs the base marvel united version and I’ve decided to pick it up as well. Great review! Thanks!
Question for you Chris - you seem to love lighter games that you can play with your kiddos. How does this occupy your gaming space with say it Bullet which you also rave about? Both games seem to be quick and have tons of replayability. Just curious how often you get both to the table.

it’s the table much more. As much as I love bullet, for example, the people I’ve played it with have been very hit or miss on it because of the nature and the difference compared to a lot of other things out there. and then throw in being a little bit lighter just makes it easier day at the table.
I don't know. I usually spend ether to shop for new cards but there are other uses during the dreams as well. Playing as the Free Spirit I didn't need THAT MUCH Ether. Good video!
@@Thomas-kx9op Yea it's limited with the base set only but if you get just some of the expansions or got them all with the kickstarter items, it's a TON of different characters and villains. Having Anti-heroes is also great because you get both of each.
Do you feel there's powercreep in characters vs the original MU characters?

for sure. But in any case the difficulty at times easily balances that out. if anything I would be more worried about the lack of better powers in some of the heroes from the first edition that might not stack up as well with the second edition. I feel like the villains are going to be good across-the-board either way.

Game is great. Biggest diff are there are way more special powers for heroes which makes each character feel way more thematic.
exactly. And the ability to play as some of the villains makes it that much cooler as well.

This like The Crew, I'd never suggest starting with the original ... you could want both, yet the X-Men version is just far superior.

this may ultimately edge that one out. Time will tell. this being that much easier to get to the table gives it advantage already
@ Not for me. I enjoy playing it with the Grandkids, but IMO the game doesn't have enough depth to it.
