Cherie admitting she's not a fish fan but willing to try it all anyways. Pushing herself to do scary things such as foreign travel alone and having all the experiences 👏 👏 👏. We all need a friend like Cherie ❤️.

Awww this was lovely ❤ Sushi is perhaps my favourite food, and of course authentic Japanese sushi is the absolute best, so it was a good call to go and try it in the "right" place. It tastes very different in each country! I had sushi for the first time in my home country (Italy) when I was in high school, but I guess because I grew up eating raw fish (and lots of raw meat as well) it wasn't particularly shocking to me lol

Aaah yeah that makes sense!! I’m not used to eating raw fish. I think the only raw fish I’ve eaten was poke - which is Hawaiian. But that’s basically it haha.

The "red fish" you liked was tuna. Everybody usually loves that! It was great you went to Japan solo, and filmed your first real sushi experience! Congrats!

The last one is actually tuna too, a shredded one. The red chunk was tuna as well. The second to the last that looked like Dragonballs is ‘ikura’, which is salmon eggs. It’s one of my faves.

That was a great video; I'm glad you tried sushi and enjoyed it for the most part. The dark red one was tuna. That and salmon (the orange fish) are probably the most commonly liked ones. I'm a big fan of sushi, and the assortment plate you got looked soooo good! I've had every piece that was on there except for the egg. That one that you were nervous to try that had the little popping balls on it is called roe, which is fish eggs. That's actually one of my favourites. Other than tuna, salmon, and shrimp, I would also suggest some rolls. I usually get a rainbow roll; those have an assortment of stuff going on and a variety of fish. I also like charashi bowls; that's an assortment of fish on top of a bowl of rice. Ooh, some places will also have crab. Those are really good. There's also spicy crab that's really good too. It's shredded and can be served as a salad or on rice like sushi. I also like ika salad, which is squid salad. There's so many good ones and so much to try. I really hope you try it again. Now that you've had sushi in Japan, now you can try ones in the US. I've noticed that sushi places here sometime cater to the American pallet, but there are still some ones to watch out for. Also, fair warning, if you get a pile of pink stuff next to the green wasabi, that's ginger. To me, it's nasty and tastes like straight-up soap, but it's made to cleanse your pallet between sushi. I just stick with water, soda, or tea to cleanse my pallet, though. lol

@Cherie Moore no problem, and you're very welcome. 🙂 There's also all you can sushi restaurants for a flat price so you can try different kinds and not break the bank. lol I'm really glad you enjoyed it and hope you find others you like. The first time I had sushi was at a restaurant in Florida. It was totally decked out Japanese so much that everyone had to take their shoes off upon entry, you walked over a coy pond, *and* the booths were designed to look like you were sitting on the floor like in a Japanese house. That's the closest to Japan I've gotten. lol

Congratulations on your first sushi challenge!
Here is my guess for each sushi in the "Recommended quintet".
the first orange colored one - maybe salmon
second one - maybeee sea bass
    third - definitely sweet shrimp!
fourth, which looks harmless - maybe squid
    fifth - maybe tuna
sixth - egggggg! it is a Japanese egg roll
    seventh - Salmon roe sushi
the last - maybeee negitoro. it is kind of minced raw tuna!

When I was in Japan I had sushi for the first time but it wasn't at a proper restaurant, it was at a party at my share house with homemade sushi.. sort of a buffet. With lots of alcohol. I got sick and didn't eat sushi again until I moved back to the US. Now I love it. It's so delicious. I could have been eating cheap delicious sushi all the time when I was in Japan but now I can only eat expensive 2nd rate American sushi. My reaction was a lot like yours when I had it at a restaurant for the first time. Wasabi is a must. Sushi without wasabi is like a hamburger without ketchup. I don't know what a normal portion is either but in America the cheapest sushi dish is about $20.00 where I live so I go with $25.00 and figure that's enough for me because I don't want to spend more. OH. THAT'S WHAT MADE ME SICK - THOSE ROUND PELLET THINGIES.

Yeah I feel like after sushi in Japan, any other sushi I will eat won’t be as good haha. Bc I had the real stuff in Japan. I definitely want to eat more sushi though 😋 so we’ll see!! I’ve also heard Korea has good sushi too, and I’m based there, so hopefully I’ll get great stuff there 😁

The egg ones is called "Tamago." They are usually made with a little bit of sugar in it as well as some mirin (rice wine). I tend to make "dashi maki" for my family which is pretty much what you just ate.

You didn't like squid, normally it's more tough, and octopus is a bit of miss, sometimes it's softer but normally a bit tough. Also you don't like the eggs called ikura and the minced tuna (the pink mushy one that was the last one). You'll probably like the normal tuna as you liked that one the dark red one, and the different levels of tuna, normal, and middle fatty tuna, and fatty tuna. I love everything but uni (sea urchin).

There's no one way to eat sushi, but I can't imagine eating it without soy sauce and wasabi with each bite. The funniest part is the sushi you hated the most--the squid one and the roe one--is what I like most! Good job trying this out!

girl you went so far to japan to eat sushi but you had to come to some random crowded general eatery?
prolly prepared by machine or even worse, random guy where you don't know where's his hands has been... and expect to get good sushi, come on?
go to real specialized sushi shop, prepared by certified master, they're place are small and neat, a wee bit expensive sure,
but you'll never go eat cheap sushi ever again.

Honestly, I really don’t mind going to random crowded general places for things like sushi. I like simple things and I was also on a budget when I went to Japan. I enjoyed myself a lot, and that’s all that’s important, right? ☺️
