Office Gaming Chair - Ikea Markus

- ~Hey guys,
I recently bought the Markus chair from Ikea and I'll be using it as my Office/Gaming chair. This is just your typical average chair if you're on a budget. I hope you'll enjoy this video.

You the real MVP
@@daylnshelton2045 Thank you :-)
You’re my hero
👍
Thanks for showing me other ways to sit on a chair.
What the hell. You're like my identical twin. We REALLY look like each other. Even the hair and beard, the way you move. It's like i'm watching a video of myself.
Does he sound like you too
maybe first check if it's not you who made this video ?
the lack of hair, you mean
You really know yourself too much
You were twins separated at birth.
I love this chair, the best one i had yet. i had previously those "gaming chairs" but those were uncomfortable, this is IMO the best chair you can get for low budget!
is it still holding up? Im in the same boat. Gaming chair hurts my ass after a few hours. too firm.
@@flowsy5294 lol ive had a trash gaming chair for 3 years and i feel your pain
www.staples.com/beautyrest-revo-big-tall-hybrid-faux-leather-executive-chair-black-60005/product_24399081?akamai-feo=off
i bought this and it was a fantastic investment. I sold my 500 dollar gaming chair for 100 bucks and said fuck it lol
i remember having this but an older model. was probably the best chair ive ever had when i think about it.. much better than all of these gaming chairs ive owned and costs half the price.
It's absurd, because gaming chairs are basically the same, just with a slightly less odd form, but straight, and some more adjustability. Maybe you have gotten one where the seat is restrictive each time... Which is one of the factors they use for price tiering (something more common in ordinary office chairs).
Really good quality, and the video is well prepared. You sound like you know what you're saying, and that's important. Keep it up! You have also changed my mind about buying a gaming chair, I have sen it in IKEA before but it seemed too office like, but now I think it'll suit my set up just fine. Thanks :)
I'm glad you liked the review :)
its been 2 years, did you end up getting one?
Did you get one?
@@fitflowinsights Yeah I did, not one but two. Not because one broke, I bought one for my father as well. After almost 3 years, it got a little bit squeky, but nothing too serious. Still goes up and down no problem and stays there, didn't even rip anywhere. I couldn't recommend it enough
I had a green one, ten years ago, which a friend still has since I changed my room’s color scheme. I bought an orange one for my sister, which she gave to her daughter. I used a black one for five years, and now she has it since giving away the orange one. Tonight, I bought my fourth Markus, in the black “leather.” I prefer this option overall since fabric can more easily get stained, and the leather is actually faux-so it’s cruelty-free!
the leather will wear down
Hey man, people are right!
You focus on the quality of your content, no matter your sub count.
Respect man. Respect.
I like how detailed your review is (eg: different ways to sit). Thank you!
Thanks for showing how the chair reclines. That's the biggest deal for me. Most all the chairs out there pivot from the middle when reclining which throws your legs up. This one is a lot smarter. Getting a Markus....

hey thanks for the video i have owned this chair for quite awhile now and was just about to buy another one, it makes me that happy, when the video reminded me to tighten the bolts. works perfect now.
What the hell man, why this channel have 125 subs, when I watched the vid I though because of the quality and how well prepared you are, I thought it was a channel with like 40k, your vids are awesome keep up the good work, You deserve more subs and gained another today
yeah its weird cuz the video itself has 160k+ views
@@saiashwin26 It's not weird. I searched for that chair and I am glad that I found such a good video. Thumbs up. But why should I subscribe? Look at the channel, he uploaded 4 videos...
If you only fit the arms with the rear bolt and just put the front bolts into the fitting in the seat base, then the arms can swivel back and forth giving you the choice to use them or not.
genius
I am using this chair for 2 years. Its is a good chair but it has a major drawback. Armrests are a little bit high to go under the desk while you move forward. It can be annoying for some. Overall its good.
Wow this is a surprisingly high quality video for someone who just started youtube! Very clear and informative, thanks.
Absolutely stunning editing job. Awesome review. You deserve more subs! :D
The main complaints I've seen are the lumbar support hurts or "stings" (despite it maybe being the lowest lumbar support on the market) and that the headrest is bothersome. I can relate to the headrest being annoying, since headrests are probably the most limiting and annoying factor in all the chair industry. But I haven't tried this chair myself.
you can remove the lumbar support with ease (and attache it again later, if you like) - its way better then
Love this chair ,got it today on FB marketplace for 20 € ,after trying to buy it Ikea which was out of stock.
Me being tall sits perfect in this one
So 20 bucks for the leather one ,and... assembled:)
Have a good one ,loved the video btw
Hey I have the Leather Version, its a bit more expensive but so much better feeling and probably lasting.
Excellent sitting, would watch again.
He did an amazing review. Keep the good work going on
2:21 It's funny because literally everyone building this chair does the same thing, slotting the metal from the back rest under the screw holes on the base then looks again at the instructions and realises it goes the other way round.
Thanks for the review. Can you write your height? Thx
that video was a help specially at 4:03 i forgot when i assembled the chair about that thing beneath the chair to force the resistance of the tilting the chair 👍
yesterday i went to ikea i saw a cheap office chair sit on it i felt shit i saw this one i sit on it honestly i never felt more comfortable , now i will probably buy it
would be perfect with removable armrests... I had to took these off since these were too low and to narrow
So..... the armrests are removable?
@@raensaeck yes... I removed removable armrests and I am an idiot :P
love the edit at the start of the video
Very good review!
thanks for the review man. Already buy it and really satisfied. :)
I've had this chair for over 10 years now, and the only minus after that period is the padding really becomes like sitting on a board, but yeah what lasts for 10 years in your life nowadays anyway?
"oh, and the head support thing is made of fake leather which cracks after about 8 years or so "in case of the leather model", but the cushion is real leather and it will last for much longer than 10 years if you maintain it"
I imagine in lower usage it might even last for 20 years, it's really designed like a piece of granite.
honestly if after 8 years the only problem on my chair were cracks on the leather and worn out padding i would be more than a happy customer
Roko567 it's a well designed thing, for sure.
Rom i no it stayed perfectly fine, just some regular wear on the leather parts "i guess fabric will have the same". (Oh and i sat on it daily for hours and i bought it because i was overweight at the time, and it didn't stretch at all)
But for durability i think the leather one will be better, but you should really check at a store.
I won't be throwing out the chair, i will store it for emergencies (you never know)
Mark R. How much do you weight?
Was the chair making weird noises after a few years?
Thank you so much for the video.
it's better than any racing chair chang my life
nice vid man keep it up!! very good start
Clean and simple chair,I'm wondering if it starts making squeaking noise after a few months of use like many office chairs do
Great video! Many thanks!
thanks. Beautiful review . Hope it's comfortable because i am about to buy one
Memnun kaldınız mı
If you lean back in this fucking chair, it feels like it's fighting back. You have to constantly press down with your back to remain laid back
just adjust the knob tension lol
Great vid really deserves more subs
Great review. Thanks!
omg stop the crazy editing
Fantastic review, thank you very much :) Subscribed!
Also, if anyone wants to know this is the chair tommyinitit uses.
I bought this chair partly because of this review. Previously I had an IKEA Malkolm (now renamed to Millberget, wonder why) that was utter shit. The armrests on that one holds the seat and backrest together and they break after a while.
It took some getting used to the Markus but now I can sit comfortably in it. I am pretty tall (200cm, 6'7") and I find that if I lock the tilt in the maximum position and scoot forward a bit I can lean my head on the headrest quite nicely and the armrests are a good height too.
The only possible weak spot on this chair is the mesh material used for the backrest, I don't know how durable it is. But hey, the Markus has a 10 year warranty so I'm guessing they have some confidence in this product.
Other than the mesh backrest, this chair has a very solid and sturdy feel to it. The tilt locking mechanism is very robust (compared to my old Malkolm/Millberget, which was utter garbage).
But the backrest is only connected to the seat at the bottom by only 3 screws (usually should be at least 4). So they will be cut off after 3-4 years because they get loose. And I've seen this many times with such design.
Hey there, i wondered if you still use that chair after 10 months? is it still as good as u described in your comment?
@@wiZZard208 Yes, I have now had the chair for a year and I'm still happy with it. No signs of breaking, mesh backrest is still completely intact, tilt lock mechanism works as good as when it was new, though I tend to keep it in the most reclined position most of the time.
@@nisserot Thank you for response! :)
@@nisserot hey, is the chair still intact after 2 years? I'm thinking of buying it
Thank you! Your video was very helpful.
Subscribed and liked! You deserve way more subscribers! :O
Thanks for sharing this video *thumbs up* Great review! Keep it up :)
Many thanks :)
This is a fantastic review, how do you only have 8 subscribers? it's what i would expect to see from a channel with 20k+ great fuckin job dude, also a question man. I'm 6"3, you think this chair will be suitable for me? As really looking to find a chair which has a head rest which doesent sit on my shoulder blades haha!
Thank you so much, really appreciate your comment....as to answer your question, I really recommend this chair even for someone as your height that goes along your back and you'll be able to rest your head...what I would recommend you to do first, is to go to Ikea and try out the chair. There's a display demo and you can try it first hand before purchasing :)
I am 6.33 (1.93m) it doesn't sit on your shoulders, i think it might be because ikea has it's headquarters in The Netherlands? Except for their living room chairs (Which feel like they're designed for hobbits) their office chairs are designed for the average Dutch person's height.
And you should really go to ikea.
Honestly!! Worst is public transit... always throws my back out. I am 6'3"
Am this chair is great.

If I subbed to each and every channel from which I saw only one video that interested me, I would sub to about 500 channels a month.
Most people don't sub after just one video...I don't think you do either.

i bought the renberget and i regretted, what a envy!
Nice vid since we can't go to IKEA now because of the lockdown.
Hi JD... thanks for showing us this video. very informative as I currently shopping around for the best chair. I wanna know Markus can also be not tilted like just keep upright 90 degrees?
it can be tilted. Do you see him reclining it? I tried it at the store, it is far superior than any ergonomic chairs I've had because it has a headrest (unlike Herman Miller). I am sitting in a Herman Miller Embody right now and it's not comfy at all. It is however, ergonomic, only in the upright position. Markus felt like sitting on a cloud and you can lean back and even fall asleep I suspect.
Great video, I struggled to find a decent chair and this one is near perfect for me, I say near perfect as it's a shame the armrests aren't adjustable.
Can the back be locked to prevent it from going back any further?
Yep it can
Yes, absolutely. That is my normal setting for office work. It keeps the chair very upright.
Since Ikea accepts returns I might give this chair a try for a couple of weeks.
Nice vid.
JD Ultimate, what desk you got?
Where to find L shape desk
fauzi zahid 😐
hey man, great video! just a question plz.. I live in a hot area.. Doyou think a leather seat would cause me a problem like itching or something? thank a lot
If you're working in a cool area or have AC on, yeah you could get the leather one. I don't think you'll have a problem with a leather, but you can go to Ikea and try a demo on the spot just to see which one you'd prefer :)
I have never owned a mesh chair just because they look uncomfortable.how do they feel, are they comfy?
Thanks, I think this is my new chair!
1 year later: would you recommend it? I am looking for a new chair
the base is cast (from the ikea website) my last 2 chairs have failed where the castor goes in the base (one was plastic the other was thin pressed metal sheet with tiny welds....) i hope the ikea one lasts as long as my first office chair , which was decades old, i only got rid as the covering wore out.
hey did you end up getting the ikea chair? and has it failed?
@@keb6004 I did get the ikea, more than a year, no problems, heavy base is strong, I might be too heavy for cheap chairs
@@jusb1066 thanks a lot for the quick answer, I'll probably buy the chair now :)
I will go to buy this
great video, perfect cut, like you :)
great review mate
nicely done brothaaa
The issues I have with chairs and my current chair is that the bottom wears out to nothing within 6 months making it so uncomfortable and it throws off my posture....that's the only thing that worries me about spending $200 to $300 on chair like that.
Hey man, I'm in need of a new chair myself. Would you mind commenting on how the chair has held up over the time you've had it?
I watched this and have decided to go with the bed of nails in the end
James Day what
biggest problem for me is the armrest. you cant adjust it. see you sideways sitting on the chair, the armrest is way to low. i would need a chair this soft armrest, that can be hight ajudest and moved back and forward because on the right hight, they will collide with my desk
Looking for recommendation Jarvfjalley vs Markus?
Which 1 is better if money not a issue.
Great review. Does your head rest on the headrest at all?
thank you, dude
I have this chair and I have a problem in the lumbar support. It hits the wrong spot of my back (beneath the normal spine curve) causing a lot pain in my back. Does anyone have the same issue? I’m 187cm 6’1 tall.
Had the same problem but you can at least dismantle it. The chair has zippers. Just push the mesh up a little and dismantle the lumbar support with the 2 screws.
Can you tell me the height of the armrests from the seat ?
Really well made review, espacially considering the size of your channel :D
Nice how much does it weight please?
Half my upper leg is off the chair. With 6 feet I am pretty average sized. At least what nordic white Europeans would consider average sized.
Thanks a lot
What's the height of the arms from the floor? I want to know if this will at least slide all the way under my desk lol
Does it provides good lumbar/lower back support?
For some reason my chair is so hard and stiff to lean back with.I have already loosened the stiffness knob yet its still requires a lot of effort.
what table did you had?
i want to be able to rest my arm on the armrest while im typing. can you measure the distance between the floor to the top of the armrest while the chair is all the way up?
The armrest is the biggest drawback of that chair. I would buy it if it wasn't for that one thing.
80cm = 31,49 inch
i've owned 3 different markus chairs over the years, and they were all crap other's hated and then sold dirt cheap on craigslist. the plether flakes off easy and makes a mess everywhere, the seat cushion compacts after a few months, and after a few more months the mechanism creaks loudly and cannot be adjusted nor lubricated to stop this, a few months more and the thick metal angle where the back meats the seat bottom - simply snaps in two. that middle center knob only adjusts if a second person is twisting it while the first person sits back in the chair, so it's really a placebo adjustment designed by swedish trolls laughing their asses off at owners who still think it does anything. if you find a markus in a pile of trash left at the curb, it may be worth giving it a try, otherwise you can do a LOT better for $150-$200 new.
Like what?
This guy: proceeds to rant about how bad the chair is and says theres LOTS of better options out there
Also this guy: doesn't say what the options are
Thanks m8
is it good for lower back ?
I have an issue after 1 year. The black tissue part under the chair is falling apart. Black dirt is falling from it. If touch it black stuffs remain on your fingers.
when my chair (backrest) is locked it makes metal noise if I rest against it (tilt). I think that's normal because of the spare space between lock? Or something might be loose?
They didn’t have that model in my store so i just went jarvfjallet chair
thanks!
good video
Does the headrest bother you because its too low ?
Thanks
whats your desk?
what is the desk you got?
Is it even ikea if you dont try to assemble it without reading the instructions first?
Would the leather chair be a bad choice if I'm in it mainly all day? I have a leather chair one now and it tends to cause a lot more sweat irritation and itching
How's the leg support? It looks like it doesn't support your leg fully
Hey! Thank you so much for that vid!
Have you noticed some metallic knocking somewhere inside the chair while you lay back with locked chair? Seems like it's "normal knocking" and I can't find a way to fix that. Probably anybody have managed with that?
I'm going to buy one and I also heard of this problem. Maybe you can try this (it's a german instruction) :
snaptip.com/qboy4radr6/quietschen-des-buerostuhl-markus-von-ikea-beseitigen#:~:text=Mensch%20Markus!&text=Vorab%3A%20das%20Quietschen%20l%C3%A4sst%20sich,einen%20Imbusschl%C3%BCssel%20der%20Gr%C3%B6%C3%9Fe%205.
If you're under 5"8 it's not comfortable.
Is this chair good for using 6- 8 hours daily for person weighing 110kg with Height: 5feet 8inches?
