fl is good, idk y ppl think its not that good, jsut because everyone on macs using ableton Live and other stuff, ok imo the live interface is cleaner and more readable but fl overall gives a better experience if u have large monitors and shit poggers tho i love that track and doesnt look that difficult as i thought
It's disgraceful how some people are ungrateful after all these years because now they saying his music is thrash. but;; Thanks people who are still here supporting him 💓
Nothing works quite as much for me as mentally grounding myself. Living in the moment, thoughtless, embracing the here and now and not suffering the regrets of the past nor the worries of the future.
36:12 "picture like the most beautiful, fluffy cumulonimbulu-nimbulus-- cumu-cumulo-- coomer coomernimbulus, nimble coomer clouds you've ever seen in your life" I'M DYING I LOVE HIM
Can't believe FL is still this weird tho.. I remember something about routing in the Mixer, which felt incredibly obnoxious to do due to the way it worked, where as in Ableton I just added a couple extra channels and there's a little drop down to route the audio to them. When I started music (long ass time ago, around the same time Porter first showed up with "Say My Name") I had a lot of issues with FL due to how convoluted somethings felt, but I liked the proprietary FX and VSTs, so I just slaved it to Ableton as a VST channel, which made life a thousands times easier. My CPU was not happy with this however. XD
Everyone who DAW brags aren't good at music tbh, used to use fl ten years ago and got so much hate for it, now ten years later it's one of most popular DAW's, people chat shit tbh.
I like how he addresses new producers. Like when he talks about vocals needing lots production, it was reassuring to me cus I’m just starting to put vocals to music I’ve been sitting on for a minute and they sound like ass lol. More artists that do these breakdowns should try to be mindful of new ppl and how they might look at something that is pretty simple as being insurmountably hard, and just a little comment about mistakes you may have made in the beginning can be very helpful.
Yeah, biggest version of this has been musicians saying the common chord progressions are overused and to avoid them. Any beginner should use whatever sounds good and enjoy the music instead of trying so hard to be original. Trying to listen to professionals' advice has hurt my progression so much
i love how open he is about everything he says and gives a true definition to his lyrics, and what he says about how you can reduce other peoples suffering is so touching to me.
8:34 tore me up, I'm 25 and this past weekend I had a huge health scare and I have nothing but appointments set-up. I'll get better, forever grateful for Porter
I feel you man. went through testicular cancer around that age (not saying that's what you have) But it's definitely scary. All the appointments and scans... I'm 32 now and that's all in the past now and I'm totally healthy. Hope everything turns out well for you.
I could cry too right now...im withdrawing from buprenorphine rn and i am so gratefull to be alive. But it sucks so much...one week deep. I am afraid of what will come in the future. But I have a loving girl on my side. I just hope everything turns out good again. Bc i lost my Job and financial stability bc of my decision to withdraw. Just alot of anxiety all around! Wish you good luck with your health!!!
28:00 porter talking about discovering ways to write music as hype is so cool. Dude’s been releasing music for 10+ years and is so giddy about learning to write while working on a song for a massive video game.
He didnt just made music like "i want this and that anddd boom music." It was more like "i want this guitar capture the idea of my current album style, this snare had that RnB kind of vibe" mannn i think porter is a embodiment of music that if he wanted to do a genre he could pulled it of, instead he tries to made his favorite music/song by combining and mixing genre into one. Im speechless
31:56 I feel the same way. Its hard to explain but I am oldy very reassured by death and being forgotten. Its peaceful to me to know that when I die I wont have any more skin to be torn nor bones to be broken. Even my memory in time will be forgotten and I wont have to worry about time souring my image or my name. I'll be able to rest in peace because of my obscurity with the countless before us.
so insightful to listen to him speak. No secret he knows his stuff front and back but it's awesome to see him get joy from little moments and flairs he's added
1:00:06 Porter says he's playing minor 4 (C minor / iv) but he's actually playing A half diminished 7, which functions like V/V since it still has the tendency to resolve to V (D major). He's also playing transposed so the chords he calls out are up a 4th. So the full progression is C - A half dim 7 / C - D - D7 - E minor, or in Roman numerals, IV - V half dim 65 / V - V - V7 - vi
Porter your music has meant SO fucking much to me in the last 7 years or so. It's been a beacon of positivity and something to relate to. Really appreciate the way you connect with people through your music. Thanks for everything...been listening since the "Say My Name" Era. Love you tons and will ALWAYS sing your praises bro. Always. -JP
This helps so much for learning... I often watch artists I like draw and try to get what they're doing, but I never see musicians (That I love anyway) do it.
I would love to see more of these videos where he breaks his songs down and goes through the back story. Big Love Porter can’t wait for what’s next in your future ❤️👍🏼💯
He’s such a fucking tease man.. He KNOWS everyone wants to see more than this. He KNOWS we wanna see some actual creative process. This was fantastic but I need mooooreeee
him and madeon both are very secretive of their process, so any time they open up like this its literal production crack. they're both so subtley insane
dude I know! I so want him to break down any song off of Worlds! Or literally just Something else that he's done. And of course he shows the stems so we don't know what plugins he used for this song hehe.
God I just love Porter so damn much. He is so wholesome, funny, insightful, wise, but also a human with flaws like all of us. Intelligence/talent is a gift and a curse, and I can't imagine the mental anguish and struggle/self doubt that comes along with the level of hyper-awareness he has. Porter, you are a living testament to the fact that art can transform the human soul, convey emotions unable to be spoken, and give hope to others. Through your struggles, I've seen someone I considered a God (literally, long story but a Virtual Self show and an extremely high dose of acid were involved) be vulnerable, bare, and human in a way I didn't think possible. You showed me I'm not alone and that there's so much beauty around me just waiting to be happened upon. That life is worth living and happiness is possible. I don't know if I'd still be here without the music and live shows you've given me over the years. I know I will never know you more than what you show on the internet and at shows, a parasocial relationship, but I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the hard work, love, and dedication you've shown to your fans over the last decade. I can't wait for the new album, and hope to be around for many more. You're the best and mean so much to millions around the world. Much love
35:00 This is what I call awakening, when the person realise the perfection of the world, and then inner peace comes, as if you don't need to worry about existing alone, but you start to co exist. I wish more people would do that.
Considering I have no knowledge of who Porter Robinson is and have never listened to his music, this is exactly what I imagined he would look and sound like. Seems like a dope guy.
Some of my greatest takeaways here was 52:00, beautiful chord progression that helps portray the happy-sad feeling, and 57:15, I actually during my first listen to this song noticed that and was like 'damn he did it again' because of how it contributed to this feeling of being free.
2:40 He’s talking about “Would I Bother” by Fredrick Johansson. Someone sampled his guitar then pitched it up a key and a half and then released it as a sample. Yw
