- Hunting for moose is part of our lives here in Alaska. As a child my family would gather each fall and spend a week processing moose and caribou meat for the winter. Not much has changed in the past 55 years. This year I had the privilege of taking my granddaughter on her first hunt. She kept her dad and I in chuckles the whole time.
Our tent is the Arctic Oven Igloo with a wood-burning stove made by Knico Manufacturing. We kept the fire burning all night long. It does not get much better.
This was a truly remote hunt, at least a hundred miles from the nearest road. It is good to know places like this still exist in the world today.

what more could you ask for, what a great adventure, and the meat and fun of doing all of this with family....... priceless. spent many hours doing this with my family on a smaller scale with whitetail deer, hope to continue for many more in michigan. thanks gale and family for sharing such a special event.

What a beautiful hunt my friend.. I have never got an opportunity to hunt for moose.. I have friends gave me some.. also some caribou venison.. you have plenty of meat for the winter. My family and I didn't get drawn this fall big game hunts.. we hunt for food to.. not as for sports and the antlers.. You are a blessed man living on a beautiful land with a beautiful family. What a beautiful Fall you are having! We are heading out to the Smoky Mts next Friday for a week. Gatlingburg and Pigeon Forge TN are great places to spend time in the Fall. Looks like a successful trip! Deer season is open here now...but just bow and muzzle loading. Gun season opens soon tho. I plan on a lot of jerky this year. I can a lot of it...but jerky is a family favorite snack. Great to meet your granddaughter. She is a beautiful young lady, and learning skills that will last a lifetime. Another fascinating glimpse into your lives in Alaska, thank you so much. It was interesting seeing how you all gather together to process the meat. When I lived in Canada the hunters used to process the meat and divide it up so it was all done by the time I saw it.
I have to admit that my expertise is in the eating of the moose rather than the hunting!

I told him years later that I wished I could’ve gone hunting with him & he felt so bad and wished he’d have taken me along. I’m glad you took your granddaughter hunting with you. That’s good.

Beautiful country, that river has a few snags. We had a good hunt a couple weeks ago from the Yukon flats up into the brooks range
I like that country. I ran up to Old Crow a few years ago. Wonderful country. I want to make that trip again.
@@ThisIsMyAlaska we keep planning trips up for the Gwich’in gatherings but life happens and no dice. We passed by the porcupine a few times going back and forth to Fort Yukon this summer. Any day on the river is a good day

Wow beautiful country for sure. We hunt every year for elk and deer. Never hunted for moose. We have them here but never hunted or even tasted one.

Awesome Country. A real time travel of a hunt. I tasted Moose up in New Brunswick, Canada and it was so delicious. Reminded me of Pot Roast. Not gamey at all. I wish I knew you a few months ago as I would have asked you to sell me 5 pounds of him. That is a huge Bull. Just from seeing the hooves in your boat, looked to be at least an 800 pounder. The ride home was sure filled with the satisfaction of a successful hunt. Thank You for sharing your hunt with the world.

Good afternoon, Gale, Tanya and many members of your wonderful family! Yes, the hunt turned out to be noble and the old, seasoned moose was worth the effort that you spent on hunting it! In my opinion, the age of the moose is about 13 - 14 years old. I'm right? We, just like you, challenge the male to a fight, that is losing in advance for the elk .. the elk has no chance against a man with a gun. We lure the elk with the same pipe as yours, (Horn), but we make it right on the spot in the forest, from birch bark. I look forward to new series about building, hiking, fishing, hunting - you are interesting in all your talents! Good luck, health and prosperity to all!
