Ohhh this was what I saw just as I started getting into the idea of learning to play the violin (and now I do :) ) because I remember it being two violinists, though now I know one is a violist. And I remember one being Vengerov. To think I didn't know it was Mozart! And didn't know what great musical journey lay ahead for me, thanks to things like this :) thanks for posting!
Mmm, I'm a violinist (as you can tell from my other comment lol) and though the next instruments I'm most interested in learning are the oboe and the flute, then maybe the piano, I'd like to play the viola too, it does have a wonderfully earthy sound. Hopefully I'll have a career where I'll have enough free time and money to pursue these musical dreams :S
oh Duci3834 ! What a magnificent find!! Came across this just today! Thank you soo soo much for posting...!! But whatever happened to the other links of this performance... ? ...none of them are live any more! This Sinfonia concertante is my favourite instrumental music of all time having grown up on it played by Igor and David Oistrakh - but this is truly wonderful! ... is there a way by which the other recordings can be brought back to the public please!?!?!
@Johannes999999999 I don't really care about the opinion of someone who so carelessly critisizes mister Maxim Vengerov. I'll be enjoying this beautiful performance of an even more beautiful composition :)
@Johannes999999999 i think most of my agreement with your comment lies in my opinion of the vibrato. otherwise I think its a pretty tasteful performance!
@SomeAnimeOtaku Don't get me wrong, it is a wonderful performance and the virtuosity and proficiency of the performers should be praised. I simply believe a more classical (less romantic) interpretation is more advantageous and more tasteful. Nevertheless, it is nothing more than an opinion.
You do realize that there is no conductor. There has to be noticeable movement by them both for the orchestra to follow... (and I agree with iermanicus)
@Johannes999999999 This comment seemed a lot more mature and acceptable :) Maybe you're right about the interpretation (or wrong, perhaps I'm not expierienced enough or I haven't listened and analyzed enough to know) but I think they still got across the light and happy mood, in their own way. But then again, it's just an opinion so, sorry for ridiculing you :) This reminded me of this quote: Never look down on anybody unless you're helping him up. ~Jesse Jackson
Too much vibrato, but the piece is so magnificent that is nearly impossible to make it sound bad, but the performers are playing as if they are playing Tchaikovsky (to whom I love to listen) but it is important to play music in the style in which it was written.
Yes, I don't think it's a good idea to compare viola players. They're all very different, and just as good as each other. It's entirely based on their interpretation of the piece and whether the audience likes it or not :)
nah! i just think if you take away the tonal qualities of their sound and stuff, then listen to how they vary the music....bashmet uses far more dynamics...but don't get me wrong, i still think power is a brilliant viola player, i just think he shouldn't be compared to bashmet!
i strongly disagree! how can anybody like this guys tone more than bashmets??!?!?!?!!? in the second movement especially, get bashmets version (with gorden kremer) on one page, then put powers version on another page, then switch between the two on each little viola section, then honestly say which violist is better! seriously!
Lawrence power is one of the most refreshing violists ive ever heard. Such raw power and full sound yet delicate
Helluva violist! Such a warmth and depth! Maybe that's why I have all of the recordings he's ever made.
STRAORDINARIO brano del maestro Mozart!!! inarrivabile
i love the viola's sound, it has more presence and a richer sound than the violin imo

I'm the first one to comment on these videos aren't I? (Sigh...) Oh well, my favourite Mozart piece, with favourite violinist. :)
Power, you're not that hot, but man, your playing is absolutely on fire!!! I've never see anyone do viola like that!
@SomeAnimeOtaku I am not. Heavy vibrato such as this was a Romantic invention. Mozart wrote for purity and substance, not for theatrics.
two peas in a pod...lawrence power is one of my favorite violists

well said!

Yes, I kind of agree. But although I like Bashmet as a viola player, what would happen if you gave his viola to Power...

We do. :D

Is the viola part and the violin part switched here?

love it and they are tops
s to me its really superb and what the heck is wrong with ro m anitc anyway but its mozart to a t.
The viola is so underestimated as a solo-instrument. Such a warm sound compared to the violin.
@bracrowe well now we know where the one dislike came from. i thought they were gunna make an ignorance filter on here a long time ago, i guess not!
I double this.
5:35 is funny :)
@Johannes999999999 hahahaha you're kidding right? = D

MOVE OVER BASHMET!!!
I find it very difficult to watch Vengerov - all that head rolling - gives me a stiff neck. Sorry Maxim!
