This is v interesting, if it is a viking boat it would be an excellent display to have in a nearby museum. Which doesnt require catching a plane to see.

Am fascinated by the Vikings of Merseyside. They sailed up the River Alt. Lots of Scandinavian names on both sides of the river. Mersey boundary river. Nth bank part of the Danelaw until 900s. Think we're a mix of anyone who survived the black death later on. Google for info. Liverpool 🕊️

We are now in the process of trying to get the funds from the English Heritage Lottery Fund to get the vessel exposed, scientifically assessed (state of the wood etc.) and dated (carbon 14, dendrochronology) - and then put the blue clay back. During the time the vessel is exposed the public/ school parties etc. will get a chance to see the vessel. If from the analysis it proves to be definitely from the Viking Age (nb its still only a hypothesis at the moment!) then we may then consider getting it fully excavated and displayed, but lets see what it is first! We've done the radar twice now (once in 2007 with the help of the Police and again in 2017) and the vessel appears to be still there. Sorry its taken so long!
