  • Apostles are witnesses of Jesus Christ and testify to all the world of His divine mission. Christ himself ordained 12 apostles during his earthly ministry. Today, 12 living apostles continue the same charge to teach and testify of Him.
Apostles serve as special witnesses of Jesus Christ, with a primary purpose to teach and testify of His divine role and mission. Jesus Christ chose and ordained twelve apostles during His earthly ministry to help share His message of truth and salvation with all people. Simon Peter was the first apostle Jesus called, and the leader of the twelve. Then there was Andrew, his brother, James and John, also brothers, then Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew the publican, another apostle named James, Judas Thaddaeus, Simon Zelotes, a Canaanite, and last, Judas Iscariot, the traitor.
After Christ’s death and resurrection, the apostles continued to travel and teach, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with as many people as they could. They also endured persecution and were killed because of their teachings. Over time the foundation of the Church and the priesthood authority that Christ established was lost.
The divine return of The Church of Jesus Christ began in the early 1800s. Just as in Christ’s ancient church, the Restored Church was subsequently organized with twelve apostles, men who have the same authority and charge from Jesus Christ to “teach all nations,” and continue to take His gospel to all the world.

I am Catholic to the core and raised next to Mormons, I stopped being religious and spent a couple years figuring out what religion was true, so I researched several prominent religions and ultimately became Catholic, the Eastern Orthodox would have been pick number 2 for me but Mormonism is theologically and philosophically incorrect. I will defend the doctrines of faith in the Church but I will not defend the people that lead it.
I hope that some of these questions raise some questions for you and you too join the Church Jesus established with an unbroken line to the Priests and Bishops today.
If any of these need further clarification I will happily write longer answers to the questions why each question matters too.

If keeping the 12 apostles was so important, why didn’t they choose a new apostle after James died in the year 44? Which was 20 years before the next apostle died.
Also, St. Mathias, St. Barnabus, St. Paul were all considered apostles making the number 14 at one point. The requirement of being an Apostle according to the words of Peter in Acts "one of these men must become with us a witness to his resurrection" Acts 1:21-22. So a requirement was witnessing the resurrection of Jesus which means being a part of his earthly ministry. If the number of 12 was so crucial then why did they replace James in the year 51 AD at the First Synod of Jerusalem in Acts 15? They have all gathered together, the Apostles that is. Why didn't Luke replace one of them after death since he was so close to the Apostles or Mark the Evangelist, Polycarp, Linus, Cletus, Clement, Ignatius of Antioch. I mean the list goes on.
Moses 5, Why were Adam & Eve baptized if the old covenant was attached to circumcision and not baptism?
So technically St. Michael worships his brother Jesus?
Why wouldn’t Moses start baptizing if this is what God told Adam & Eve to do, by extension, the same to Abraham with changing to circumcision to change back to baptism with Christ?
“‘I am the Alpha and the Omega’ says the Lord God who is who was and who is to come the Almighty” Rev 1:8 if the Lord is Jesus and God is the Father why does John the Apostle write this in the singular if Mormons teaching says it should be referred to in the plural since John is referencing multiple people and not a single entity?
What’s the point of the resurrection and the new Jerusalem if Mormons believe they will go be gods somewhere else?
What does Psalm 110:1 mean and why does Jesus reference it in Mark 12:35-37?
Why do Mormons teach that eternal marriage is essential for exaltation in the highest degree of the celestial kingdom when Christ taught the opposite, in fact, he spoke highly of those that remained celibate their entire life’s? John the Baptist, Paul, many apostles, and Jesus himself remained celibate their entire lives. (Could go into the Bridegroom aspects of Jesus and the old covenant and further proof of the Trinity but not enough space) In multiple passages, the New Testament praises celibacy over married life putting celibacy on a more prestigious role than married life. 1 Cor 7: 32-40 (“So then, he who marries the virgin does right, but he who does not marry her does better) Matthew 19:12 “Some are incapable of marriage because they were born so; some, because they were made so by others; some, because they have renounced marriage for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Whoever can accept this ought to accept it.”
Why would Christ who knows all things say people will renounce marriage for the kingdom of heaven if his teachings are supposedly upheld in the Mormon church?
How could James, John, and Peter arrive in bodies of some sort to give the priesthood if James and Peter don’t have resurrected bodies?
Why not have female prophets if the OT had female prophets?
Peter ordained Linus, (2nd Pope) and Clement (who was his first choice to succeed him) wouldn’t both of them know all the teachings of the church as well as have the authority or the keys?
Linus was second in line to the bishop of Rome, also known as Pope, why wasn’t any of the previous apostles chosen, John was still alive, Philip was still alive, Bartholomew was still alive, James son of Alphaeus was still alive, and Thomas was still alive, Paul was still alive for a little while longer than Peter as both were present in Rome at the time. Why were none of them chosen to be second in line as Pope? Yet Peter wanted Clement of Rome to be the first to follow him but the Church leaders chose Linus then Cletus, then Clement was chosen who wrote famous writing to the Corinthians which the Church of Corinth valued and read every time they gathered together.
The Great Apostasy that will take place can only take place just before the 2nd coming. If there is/was a mass restoration it negates Jesus’ words of “When the Son of Man returns will he find faith?” which makes no sense if “faith” was restored and meant to grow throughout the world. It would make more sense to quote Jesus, “And then many will fall away and betray one another, and hate one another. And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray.” referring to the end times. “For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions”
Why do Mormons celebrate Easter on Sunday and not when many others in the early 100s wanted to celebrate Easter?

“Many years ago a learned man, a member of the Roman Catholic Church, came to Utah and spoke from the stand of the Salt Lake Tabernacle. I became well acquainted with him, and we conversed freely and frankly. A great scholar, with perhaps a dozen languages at his tongue’s end, he seemed to know all about theology, law, literature, science and philosophy. One day he said to me: ‘You Mormons are all ignoramuses. You don’t even know the strength of your own position. It is so strong that there is only one other tenable in the whole Christian world, and that is the position of the Catholic Church. The issue is between Catholicism and Mormonism. If we are right, you are wrong; if you are right, we are wrong; and that’s all there is to it. The Protestants haven’t a leg to stand on. For if we are wrong, they are wrong with us, since they were a part of us and went out from us; while if we are right, they are apostates whom we cut off long ago. If we have the apostolic succession from St. Peter, as we claim, there is no need of Joseph Smith and Mormonism; but if we have not that succession, then such a man as Joseph Smith was necessary, and Mormonism’s attitude is the only consistent one. It is either the perpetuation of the gospel from ancient times, or the restoration of the gospel in latter days.’” (A Marvelous Work and a Wonder, LeGrand Richards, Deseret Book Co., 1958, pp. 3-4.)

It is telling that, in all the changes made over the centuries by the surviving sects of Christendom, the reintroduction of prophets, apostles, and living vibrant scriptural revelation (including, sometimes, revelations and commandments that are unpopular or fly in the face of the "standards" of the time, such as they are/were) remain so "strange" to the majority of the outside Christian world that they are often the foundation of rejection of all the higher truths our religion has to offer. I suppose such has even been the case. When Jesus stood before the Jews, the ancient covenant people who were praying for their Messiah to come (not necessarily realizing that He would come not merely to save them but to save all the world), they had so changed and added to the Law Jesus Himself had given them before His birth that they could not recognize Him and, in the end, committed deicide of the very One they had prayed for. Perhaps, in the end, we will discover that the great repeating round (or circle) of societies in our world has ever been the building up of ancient truths to the end that one rejects the continuation of that truth in their own day.

Nothing in the Bible says that God would cease entirely to use prophets; in fact, there are direct references to prophets that are yet to come, such as those mentioned in Revelation 11. Jesus spoke of the Holy Ghost, and members of the restored Church of Jesus Christ rely on the Holy Ghost constantly, but Christ also commissioned prophets to do His work after His resurrection while the Holy Ghost was present to help people. For my part, as I listen to the modern prophets and as God witnesses to me of the truth of their words, it is very clear why He still uses them in our time.

4 Things Everyone Should Know about the Book of Mormon
The Book of Mormon is an ancient record that teaches about Jesus. The men, women, and families in the Book of Mormon struggled with life’s challenges, just like we do. We can see ourselves in their stories, and be inspired to be better and help others like Jesus did. Here are four things you should know about this sacred book:
    1. It’s scripture
Just like God spoke to Moses and Noah in the Bible, He also instructed His prophets in the Americas to keep a record of His teachings and laws. Their writings were eventually gathered into one book by a prophet named Mormon. The Book of Mormon’s words affirm Jesus’s life, ministry, and His act of saving us from sin and overcoming death. In fact, the highlight of the Book of Mormon is when Jesus came to visit the people in the ancient Americas.
In the Bible, the Apostle Paul taught, “In the mouth of two or three witnesses shall every word be established” (2 Corinthians 13:1). When God teaches an important principle, He sends another source to confirm it. The Book of Mormon and the Bible are witnesses of each other. As many people today drift from God and religion, having more than one witness of God's words can help us stay on track (see 2 Nephi 29:7-8).

Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
-1 Timothy 3:2 (the leader of the church must only have one wife according to the bible)
For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death, because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels, and to men.
-1 Corinthians 4:9 (the last apostle was in the bible and died already. That is according to the bible)
Study the bible as a whole. Do not rely on some text and disregard the other. If the teaching is not in the bible, then that is questionable. Listen to what apostle said:
I have applied all these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, brothers, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another.

    • @00Fisher00
      @00Fisher00 4 роки тому

Sometimes members of the Church make assumptions about who has actually seen the Savior, but we only have a handful of clear historical references to such events. It can be helpful to consider the words of one apostle, Bruce McConkie, who said in his final testimony, "And now, as pertaining to this perfect atonement, wrought by the shedding of the blood of God-I testify that it took place in Gethsemane and at Golgotha, and as pertaining to Jesus Christ, I testify that he is the Son of the Living God and was crucified for the sins of the world. He is our Lord, our God, and our King. This I know of myself independent of any other person. I am one of his witnesses, and in a coming day I shall feel the nail marks in his hands and in his feet and shall wet his feet with my tears. But I shall not know any better then than I know now that he is God’s Almighty Son, that he is our Savior and Redeemer, and that salvation comes in and through his atoning blood and in no other way."
If you listen to the words of the apostles, you will understand what is so special about their witness. Then, of course, there are many other things they do that we don't get to see often unless we work close to them, but their words in settings such as general conferences are powerful.

The word Church is misinterpretation of the Greek word eklesia. Better, called out ones, assemble, congregation or The Way. NO modern day so-called Apostle meets the qualifications of an apostle as set forth in Acts 1: 21-26

You'd be amazed if you saw all that the modern apostles do. However, you can easily listen to their words at www.churchofjesuschrist.org/general-conference and then "judge them by their fruits" in that respect. You will find that they speak words of truth as special witnesses of Christ, and that the Holy Ghost testifies of it.

Why do we believe that the apostles have walked and talked with Christ, when so many of them have admitted that they have not seen him and they only feel the spirit in exactly the same way we all feel it. ie nothing special at all. It seems that Joseph Smith Jr is the only one who admitted he has seen God.

Some Latter-day Saints sometimes hold traditional beliefs that aren't scripturally accurate. The apostles are not always particularly clear about exactly what kind of relationship they have with the Savior--and such an experience would likely be too personal to share openly--but it seems to be that most have not physically seen Him. Elder Bruce R. McConkie, in his final testimony, said, "I am one of his witnesses, and in a coming day I shall feel the nail marks in his hands and in his feet and shall wet his feet with my tears. But I shall not know any better then than I know now that he is God’s Almighty Son, that he is our Savior and Redeemer, and that salvation comes in and through his atoning blood and in no other way." So I think you're right, but Church members sometimes carry some strange beliefs.

Seeing is nothing. Plenty saw Jesus and knew of his miracles and crucified him. However, when the Spirit dwells within you, you get to know God and Jesus Christ. That is special indeed.

@@jamestaylor1975 You seem to be looking for an argument. I will say that some truths are indeed consider strange because the world does not know them. Whether or not a belief is strange is not the crucial element; whether it is true is the important thing.
What is the foundation of your faith? How do you find truth?
