    This is even more important if the wrestler doesn't speak English fluently. Being able to cut a promo can sell a wrestler, and if their English is limited, you need to provide a way to connect with the audiences outside of promos. What people mean by "character", you can bet is basically the WWE presentation of individual wrestlers. That's what they want. i guess is that style but with better wrestling. i for one, don't need that to enjoy aew, thankfully.
    The question nobody asks is DO AMERICAN FANS REALLY WANT AN ALTERNATIVE ? They don't seem to.
    AEW has kept its core audience, more or less, satisfied since the beginning, and every metric of "criticism" used by the so-called non fans who clearly hate watch weekly, are almost always based off parameters of comparison with what they know/prefer in Wrestling, WHICH IS THE WWE.
    You won't get many fans from the golden era of wrestling that watched some of the biggest names around evenly spread between to companies to care about AEW without appealing to nostalgia, even then, thats a very little supporting demographic. Some would only judge AEW as successful if it had prime monday night war nielsen ratings.
    NEW fans ? wrestling itself is failing at getting those. So WHO'S really left for AEW to "get" to watch the show ? WWE Fans. EIther disgruntled but still emotionally attached to them because they grew up with it, or the completely enamorated ones that never HAD alternatives, aside from TNA, of all options. The "fair" criticism is never really about REAL issues in AEW, because they don't watch it for what it is : AN ALTERNATIVE. Wrestling is niche, the alternative number 2 company appeals to a SECTION of a niche crowd and people want it to copy the "big dog" to become more popular, KNOWING it won't work that easily. Jesus.
    And color me shocke Ice Cube Jr. a FANDOM is TOXIC online ? I really love this make believe world these people live in that WWE Fans are the sane ones with some of the prime examples of toxic tribalism coming from these people EVEN BEFORE AEW was a thing.

      @SeanMurrellRTS 3 місяці тому +3

      BRAVO! As an AEW fan you just explained exactly what is going on. WWE is hot and Vince is gone. Others like Punk who apparently wanted out actually drew people away from AEW. Yet here we are right back at square one. The PPV numbers are still doing good, and the network is happy. I'm not sure if you could ever satisfy these casual fans enough. 800K is not far off the number of a loyal base who found AEW product to not be their favorite while WWE got rid of Vince. That is where the numbers went. Between Punk coming in and Vince leaving you lost about 200K. Yet AEW continues to please their network because other than sports it is one of the hottest commodities on cable Wednesday night. Apparently the numbers are even pleasing enough for the weekends. The numbers drop on the weekends probably due to the importance of the show and a number of both AEW and WWE fans. Because I'm an AEW fan only I watch all 3.
      WWE lost me oddly enough when Punk got screwed over. I loved NXT under Hunter and that to me is what AEW feels like right now. I don't need to know every single thing about every wrestler that comes in. I simply watch them and see what they got and what they have to bring. I do love the extra promos and vignietes as well.
      I think the issue is more of an issue for those that folllow or cover both and see a decline in AEW.

    • @Felipe-kh6cg
      @Felipe-kh6cg 3 місяці тому

      @@SeanMurrellRTS THe numbers are really fkn good given the REAL ceiling AEW has, no it WONT beat the WWE, because in order to do so, you need to play THEIR game. which is popularity > quality. WWE have shown that they WILL continue to : Focus on children and emotional infant adults, they WILL push the same superman character eventually, the ultra babyface with the most mainstream appeal, they WILL kill organic pushes when wrestlers get over by their own ability to do so and they WONT make their product revolve around wrestling. FFS, people went from unanimously wanting more wrestling in WWE shows, to admiting they dont care much, only about "stories" and "characters" and all the soap opera bullshit which was arguably, THE MOST CRITICIZED ASPECT of their product in the last WHOLE DECADE. Do you see what i mean ? do you see how people are now finding out they truly DONT want what they've been asking for ? especially if it comes with a fervorous loyal fanbase that will call them out for it.

    First off I agree with his commen as an AEW fan, they need to educate their audience. However, I find it ironic that since WWE is hot suddenly the E-Drones have a free pass to attack AEW fans but the toxic AEW fans are supposidly the worst thing ever. If we use proportion since WWE is a bigger audience there would be much more WWE drones than faceless AEW fans with the attacks.

    O''Shea is completely right. Tony Khan has cultivated a toxic and repulsive fanbase that treats everybody who doesn't agree with them as a crazy hater who doesn't know what he is talking about, just because they are so emotionally invested in the AEW product they can't admit the many faults that company has. That's why their niche is only becoming smaller and no casual even turn their channel to watch a spot fest with no story attached to it that only a handful of terminally online neck beards like. AEW should strive to expand the audience, instead Tony Khan does everything to make the fanbase smaller and more deranged than before

    I’ve AEW since before it was even AEW, since Cody left WWE and I saw him wrestle at WCPW. But, AEW needs something. It’s whole identity was meant to be the younger but still mainstream wrestling promotion which had great wrestling, that’s now what WWE is doing but because it’s WWE it’s got more mainstream eyes on it. What is AEW if it looks less unique, what is AEW when the honeymoon phase dies? My thoughts, the best use of young talent in modern wrestling today and the potential to be the perfect hybrid of modern day storytelling and a sports like product.
    Here’s what I’d do:
    Brand Split, simple. TNT Champion on one show, TBS on the other, Tag and Trios titles separate. World Champions (men and women’s) float. Makes both shows feel different. Dynamite is the more modern storytelling filled with the Easter eggs, the callbacks, the shocking twist and turns with long term payoffs. Collision is old school pro wrestling. Simple heel vs baby face with. stipulations used to blow off feuds, simple reasons for feuds like winning a title to get a pay rise, intense blood feuds with the kind of grit of the ‘80s.
    Stop ROH: it doesn’t work, don’t kill the brand but move it back to Universal Studios. It works better there. Keep the belts and stories off AEW TV as it doesn’t work logically.
    Make rankings matter, simple wins and loses work at the start of each episode we see who’s where and so on
    Video packages for a debuting star and why the match we are seeing with them has a story.
    Stop using the Forbidden Door as a easy way out, save it for the Forbidden Door PPV or an actual storyline.
    Film in different locations, like what WCW used to do. Be the purple cow. People don’t go “remember the wrestling show in the arena, it had Hangman Page on it” but they could go “remember that wrestling show at a theme park with Hangman Page on it”

    Maybe with the addition of Jennifer Pepperman, AEW will get backstories on their performers' to build them up. A lot of the wrestlers already have huge backstories due to the companies they have worked for in the past, but a bunch of the younger wrestlers might need that backstory to acquaint them to the audience. That's my take!

      AEW is listening to the fans and critics. Despite some dorks who are unhinged just like some are for WWE, they are listening and I see evidence of this week by week. They brought the ratings back in the new year because fans wanted it. They brought us the C2 at the end of last year becasue people wanted it. They are not perfect, but I see them trying and to me after seeing years of WWE not giving a rats ass about their fans (HHH is much better in charge I have no doubt) it's funny how everyone is so concerned about the so called demise of AEW.

    AEW is just documentation of wrestling moves on tv. You can watch people flip and fake-fight down at your local gym. What makes movies good? It’s not watching the people on your screen. It’s watching them play out an experience or storyline. AEW is empty calories.

I know that it's gold and white now, but I'm not taking any chances. If they come to the main roster, they got to give me a reason to care. I knew who Samoa Joe, Eric Young, Bobby Roode, ext because I watch them cook in TNA and I watched TNA on my cable. If I heard of a specific wrestler from a company that I don't watch for a long time, all I care about is what they do now.

    Sorry for the book but. I personally LOVED AEW in the first couple years when the promotion was born and started growing into an actual BRAND. But something in that year 3 to 4 happened backstage that no one but the ones who need to know actually know the truth as to what EXACTLY happened that made Cody jump back to AEW so fast it made our heads spin! And the same thing with Punk. And NO that wasn't ALL his (CM's) fault not a bit! Of course he played a role in it but something is MAJORLY SCREWED UP IN AEW! I don't know but I believe his initials ARE TK! And him having his own head up his a** or he is listening to Chris Jericho way too much. But I do know as of lately this promotion has DEFINITELY taken a high dive into a VERY SHALLOW pond HEAD FIRST! An until TK is AWAY FROM ANY BOOKING NOTHING WILL CHANGE! Kinda sounds familiar doesn't it?

    • @ToxicAvengerCleanYourMind
      @ToxicAvengerCleanYourMind Місяць тому

      It's pretty obvious with Punk now, a month later... Young Bucks and highest paid wrestler, Chris Jericho, didn't want the show centered around Punk. They resorted to whisper campaigns to Meltzer, influenced Hangman to go off script, and Jungle Boy to openly disrespect Punk in that PPV. They just couldn't stand somebody coming in and drawing numbers they couldn't. And, of course, now that he's gone, Bucks are back latching on to everything and back on center stage, and Jericho is latching on to everything just to be on TV.
      At least the fans booed Hangman and favored Swerve, the heel, because now even the core audience is getting sick of the best friends getting every spot
