Wow what a difference the lod maker addon makes vs the decimate modifier. I was doing some lod's a few days ago trying to get my lod_1 just right with the decimate modifier. My big silos turned out really good but ill redo a couple of my custom traffic vehicle's with the addon and should get much better results with it, and its quick at generating them too.
The add-on mostly uses the decimate modifier, it just does a better job of it. I must be doing something as well, because mine never turn out as good without using the add-on. I also like that it's super quick, it saves you a heck of a lot of time!
Yeah, I’m sure as high end as maya is, it at least has a plugin to generate LODS. I don’t know why someone couldn’t do one for blender too though. Edit: oh you linked one, good deal. Thanks! ❤
And it's FREE! The best price! Yup, I do know that some of the higher end 3D software includes the functionality to make LODs, I just can't remember which ones do, and do not. The people that make the Insta-Mat program I covered also make a FREE LOD program for download. It's an entire program entirely for creating LODs and it looks complicated so I haven't messed with it much, but the option is there.
Fs25 claims to have 360 degree billboards on the trees which should end that 2d effect. That will be a nice improvement, especially for those that use flight mode all the time.
I saw that and I'm interested to see how it plays out. The LOD is still going to take effect and you'll still be viewing a low poly version of the tree, but I'm curious as to exactly how they'll implement a 360 billboard. I have an idea, but who knows, maybe they will amaze me with something awesome and unexpected :)
Sort of, it's only a single export but it contains multiple objects (3 actually) - one is the main object, the other is the LOD or multiple LODs if you choose, and the last would be the occluder mesh.

So correct me if I’m wrong, I basically have to export 2 versions of my buildings, one with the distorted lod?
