My method for using the Furminater is, first brush upwards, then, brush downward. Then, repeat, lol!!!! You can even do it twice a day!! You'll ALWAYS find more hair😣
I give some treats while I'm brushing. Did u know what happens with all that hair if u brush outside? It doesn't go to waste, birds use it to build nests. Who'd have thought?🤔😮
I'd like to share some good advice for all of us who own Shepherds. We're always covered in hair, whether it's shedding season or not.
Use the heavy tape lint rollers to remove hair, I find that works best. You can get a 5 pack at Costco for an excellent price.
If u have to get dressed up, or wear something expensive, my advice....wait to last possible moment to do so!! Put dog in crate, make sure that you use tape roller on any surface that u will be near (bed, chair, etc.) Then, make a mad dash for the door!!!! SERIOUSLY, ladies especially, never a good look when a guy has to pick some loose dog hairs off you, or someone points out that you have hair on you. ALWAYS CARRY A TAPE ROLLER IN THE CAR!!!!!
we love our dogs, but, be aware that these loose hairs on our clothes, especially, if we've been working with our dogs, we start to smell like a dog!!!😮😣
One of my good friends pointed it out to me one day after I had been training all day then went over their house. That's what friends are for, lol. We are so used to it, that we don't smell it anymore! I even keep a small size Fabreeze in my car so I can spray myself down if I'm not going straight home after training.
It's important to be aware of our hygiene when we have a dog, especially, a large dog. AND, if you're a trainer, you MUST be diligent about it!! Nobody enjoys the smell....dog lover, or not. Remember to ALWAYS check yourself if u are going to be with people

Thank you so much for this video. My puppy turned 5 months today. About mid march he started shedding like crazy! It was like a switch was flipped. Shocked me. I’m vacuuming like crazy now and I have taken him to the groomers to get their deshed package. It helped for maybe 3 days and he back to shedding. When I googled it said he could be shedding his winter coat or possibly his puppy coat.

It's great if you do it yourself. I use the Furminator brushes and blow my dogs hair out. But, I would just be very careful who does it. I had a friend take her cocker spaniel to the vet and their groomer. She was supposed to pick her up the next day. Instead she got a call that something had gone wrong. They KILLED HER DOG! Whoever the groomer was said her arm got tired so she put her in a small crate and tied her leash so the dryer would blow directly on her. Well, she got busy and forgot. She had turned the heat on high. She said because it was drafty in there. She left that poor dog all night like that! So in the morning the came in and she had collapsed. She was treated for severe burns. But died. It was heartbreaking.

I can de-shed one in two sessions. You need two really hard scrubbing baths, and then you take a forced air drier and you work them over for 45 minutes to an hour. You should take breaks to be easy on the dog. You then do it again, and that usually does the trick. The undercoat on sables is yellow, and I had a golden retriever which had already blown her coat, when I first got a GSD. I wondered where all these yellow hairs were coming from. I kept grooming the golden and got no fur off her. But the shepherd was full of yellow hairs. The black and tans/reds have the same color hair where they are red or tan, but they are black/gray where they are black. I've never had a black one.

You can use a blower too during shed season. It's basically a reverse vacuum, and it helps make getting that loose undercoat off a little easier. You'll still need to brush as well, but the blower definitely helps make the whole process easier.

What about the Oster brush you have used and recommended before? I like that better than the Furmanator and have both. I also like a horse’s shedding blade for taking out the most hair initially. Any of the three work really well. Just don’t plan on being done in 10 minutes

Hi German Shepherd Man, so first off, can I insert my opinion on your new look? I like the beard!👍👍👍 You are one of those guys that looks good with a beard. Some guys look good in beards, others don't look quite as good with one.
Secondly, I'm getting a kick over Seargant sticking his tongue in your ear🤣🤣🤣 Seargant's like "Dad! Dad! Dad! I want to work! Please let me do some work! Ruby has a toy over there that I REALLY want SO BAD!!! Dad, do we have to talk about this thing you call shedding?" It seemed like Seargant almost put his tongue in your mouth? EEEEWWWWWW!🤣🤣🤣 I was amazed at how much hair you combed out of both Seargant and Ruby. Does the appearance of a puppies fur have much bearing on how their adult coat will end up looking? I have two 4 month old puppies and one has really short shiny fur (the traditional stock coat look) and the other has fluffy less shiny fur (looks more like a wolf cub). Neither had parents that were long coats but I'm unsure if the puppy with the fluffier fur type means he will have longer adult fur?
