I’m glad you painted what I commented about! The model looks amazing, and it’s fun that you actually read the comments to do the videos on. You’re the GOAT
thanks for watching and for your suggestion! I read all the comments and try my best to reply to them as well. Wish I could paint every request but we get a ton and sadly don't have that kind of time!
I've watched so many painting tutorials and I've never seen this technique of thinking the paint with water and cleaning the brush for smooth gradients. It's absolutely awesome. Really nice video.
@@Taphosthewarlock you can use that blending technique with opaque paints for highlights as well, it's a variation of a technique often called feathering. If you're working with Contrast paint, I think it's best to start with the lightest color first, and work your way darker, rather than the other way around. Good luck!
Excellent job with these. I painted two poisonous toads using this method for a dungeon crawl project I'm working on. Really appreciated thank you. I subscribed a while back, I wish you well with this channel it really is one of the better ones.
Wow! Really clearly explained in a calm, considerate manner. Absolutely wonderful. I may have to steal this colour scheme for my Bayou Kruleboyz for one of their big monsters.
Thanks for watching! I bet that scheme would look great on some of those monsters. Please share your results if you go through with it! I'd love to see. Good luck!
All three Kroxigors look amazing! Bravo! Your blending technique is very simple and has great results, thanks for showing it. Also this video is full of small tips and tricks, like shading gold with purple. Keep up the good work! I now I want to paint Seraphon....I have to resist the temptation...I have too many unpainted models...
That's what I like with seraphons; they give you the flexibility to paint them whatever color you want. Blue, black, red green, purple , all work for them.
Thanks! I'm glad the paint names help! Honestly I don't do anything fancy for my brushes. I'll repost this comment I left on a different video: I use Rosemary and Co 99's for everything. Some paints are harder on the brushes than others. In my experience, the 99's are such an affordable price that I don't worry too much about it. I don't use brush soap; just water. I get the most life out of my brushes by assigning/promoting them to new roles: The newest brushes get used for the most important detail work. Once the point starts to go, they get "promoted" to edge highlights. Then they get promoted to basecoats/contrast. After that, they get promoted to drybrushing, and then finally glue/basing. I try to use the oldest/worst condition brush possible for each job, and by doing that it also extends the life of all my other brushes. Hope this info helps. Good luck!
Seriously though, I've learned so many combos and tricks in this video. Blastoise and Venusaur have interesting color combos as well! Looking forward to your next content!
This is basically Bob Ross but for miniatures. The part where you say coarse gravel and fine sand is the equivalent of Bob saying "beat the devil out of it" when he cleaned his brush. Lol sorry, great video.
Every time I see a video of you I think "I learned something thanks to this artist". My congratulations! When you can, and if you want, could you make a nice video about Leagues of Votann and the Fyreslayers? Thanks in advance🙏🏻
Fantastic paintjob! I have 3 krocks on my painting desk, just waiting for me to decide what colour they're going to be. Your videos have given me a lot of food for thought! One of my squads of saurus is purple, so if you haven't done any purple lizards that could be an idea? Would be very interested in your approach to the colour. Cheers!
you have a very solid painting scheme, congratulations! i use the same recipe for yellow models but i use vallejo ice yellow for the final highlights, try it out if you can ;)
In my experience the air bubbles come from over diluting the new formula paint (which doesn't need nearly as much water as the older range) too much with water. I haven't really noticed it at all with xpress colors, so if it's happening there too to you I'm not sure - sometimes I was also seeing it after mixing colors together aggressively with the brush
i've found they get air bubbles regardless of the amount I dilute them. Even straight from the bottle. You're right about mixing aggressively with the brush; that seems to create more bubbles. I seem get the fewest bubbles when the brush agitates the paint as little as possible, so I have to paint really carefully and slow. Very frustrating! Hopefully they fix the formula soon.
No plans yet for a full spearhead. I think right now I'm going with a variety of single miniatures for the channel. Hopefully I can work in a Slaanesh model some time. Thanks for watching!
Typically I blow on the areas with air bubbles and they pop. You just have to ensure you don’t blow hard enough to spray wet paint on other areas of the model but it seems to work the best. Also it’s agitation that creates the bubbles so slower brush strokes help with not making them to begin with
I followed this tutorial almost all the way on the new seraphon underworlds warband and am soooo happy with how they came out! Is there anyway i could share a pic with you, if you're interested?
Awesome! There are a few different options: you can join our Discord server andshare images there, you can tag me/send me a message on Instagram, or you can email me. All of those options are listed on the main channel page here. I look forward to seeing your work!
Really loving these vids. Would it be possible to do a box art version of the kroxigor and the saurus? Although one of your other kroxigor vids looks similar to box art saurus... So maybe just the main colours you would use?
some of the new Kroot models look pretty cool! I did a video for a basic Kroot troop a while back. I'll have to get my hands on one of the larger models some time. Those new flying guys are pretty cool too.
Proposal for a video ... how about a tutorial for the basis you use on your seraphons I really love them. Uhhh or even better jungle basis ❤❤❤ would be sweet
Thanks for the suggestion! Until then, I briefly covered how I do the bases in this video here: ua-cam.com/video/7YZYDcJf4Kg/v-deo.htmlsi=PYJni_vAwJx0TlYc&t=1181 thanks for watching!
Hi Matt, love your content -- I find myself tuning in on a regular basis. I have noticed that you use watered down acrylic blacks to punch up borders between details before moving onto the highlight stage. I have been wondering: did you ever consider switching to oil paints for that purpose?
thanks for watching! I find that oil paint is much less precise than acrylic. Because of mineral spirits' high capillary action, oil paint flows too much and doesn't stay where I paint it. Not to mention a longer drying time. Acrylic is more precise and better for this style of painting. That being said, I do use oil washes now and then, usually the end stages of a model, and it gives a different looking result. I think oil is better when you're going for a "grimdark" style, rather than a clean and bright style.
Hey Man, I’d like to know how many and which contrast paints are the “essential” I mainly paint fantasy figures, lizards, dragons , orcs, wizards etc. I have mostly Vallejo opaque paints and I’m looking to get into contrast paints not to replace my current paint lineup but to compliment it, looking at contrasts as a tool. Not an end all be all paint range for getting quick and somewhat ‘mediocre’ results but as an enhancing tool for a good level painting. Your videos are great man, thanks!
Thanks for watching, and that's a great question! I think it would be a great subject for a video. There is a lot to consider. Do you only paint one army, or do you paint a variety of models? The selection of Contrast paints I use in my videos are all good, and I'd recommend collecting them all eventually. Honestly I think the best bet would be to make a list of the colors you like that appear in the videos, and pick up a couple at a time. If you're looking for a short list of colors to get started, I would recommend Darkoath Flesh, Skeleton Horde, Gryph Charger Grey, Magos Purple. Those are more transparent and can serve as basecoats, or you can use them as shades/glazes over regular paint. I think you would get the most use out of those colors. I would then look into expanding the collection with some more opaque colors, like Black Templar, Wyldwood, Flesh Tearers Red, Imperial Fist, Aeldari Emerald, and Sigvald Burgundy. I would also recommend Martian Orange and Orc Skin from the Vallejo Xpress Color range. Hope this helps. Good luck and happy painting!
I just use Vallejo Game Color white acrylic paint, thinned with water. You could use white ink or primer instead and it should work fine too. Thanks for the question! Sorry I didn't specify what I use.

@@MattsHobbyHour Does it work best going from light > dark or does it work for highlights just as well?

that would be cool looking!

I've been saying we need a 3rd Kroxigor.
Nice job showing us an example of an orange/yellow/red one.
Second breakfast and a third Kroxigor!

Good idea, thanks!

The new formula Vallejo paints create so many bubbles, especially when you are slapping paint down. It’s such a pain!
Yes it's really frustrating! I hope they solve the problem soon.
@@MattsHobbyHour it'd be good, but I don't think it will ever be fixed, at least not until they release a whole new formula in like 20 years.
