I’m glad you painted what I commented about! The model looks amazing, and it’s fun that you actually read the comments to do the videos on. You’re the GOAT
thanks for watching and for your suggestion! I read all the comments and try my best to reply to them as well. Wish I could paint every request but we get a ton and sadly don't have that kind of time!
I've watched so many painting tutorials and I've never seen this technique of thinking the paint with water and cleaning the brush for smooth gradients. It's absolutely awesome. Really nice video.
Hope you can try out the technique some time! Thanks for watching!
@@MattsHobbyHour Does it work best going from light > dark or does it work for highlights just as well?
@@Taphosthewarlock you can use that blending technique with opaque paints for highlights as well, it's a variation of a technique often called feathering. If you're working with Contrast paint, I think it's best to start with the lightest color first, and work your way darker, rather than the other way around. Good luck!
Up there with my favourite hobby channels. Great work Matt.
It's an honor, thank you!
Another very nicely painted mini, well done. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for watching!
This is basically Bob Ross but for miniatures. The part where you say coarse gravel and fine sand is the equivalent of Bob saying "beat the devil out of it" when he cleaned his brush.
Lol sorry, great video.
ha, that's a great comment. Thanks! Bob was my favorite when I was a kid.
Well you have an awesome looking unit of Kroxigors now Mr. Matt. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching!
Absolutely beautiful, thank you for this inspiring video.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Every time I see a video of you I think "I learned something thanks to this artist". My congratulations!
When you can, and if you want, could you make a nice video about Leagues of Votann and the Fyreslayers? Thanks in advance🙏🏻
Thank you! I'm glad to hear that you learned something. Thanks for the suggestions as well!
Wow, really amazing!
I find the tutorial for orange, THANKS ❤
Thanks for watching! Have fun painting some orange!
I love that you put the paint names on the screen, thank you! Would you do a brush care video at some point? I keep destroying brushes :(
Thanks! I'm glad the paint names help!
Honestly I don't do anything fancy for my brushes. I'll repost this comment I left on a different video:
I use Rosemary and Co 99's for everything. Some paints are harder on the brushes than others. In my experience, the 99's are such an affordable price that I don't worry too much about it. I don't use brush soap; just water.
I get the most life out of my brushes by assigning/promoting them to new roles: The newest brushes get used for the most important detail work. Once the point starts to go, they get "promoted" to edge highlights. Then they get promoted to basecoats/contrast. After that, they get promoted to drybrushing, and then finally glue/basing. I try to use the oldest/worst condition brush possible for each job, and by doing that it also extends the life of all my other brushes.
Hope this info helps. Good luck!
That's what I like with seraphons; they give you the flexibility to paint them whatever color you want. Blue, black, red green, purple , all work for them.
Yes that's very true!
Majestic Charizard recipe. 🌟
I guess I need to paint Blastoise and Venusaur Kroxigor now!
Seriously though, I've learned so many combos and tricks in this video. Blastoise and Venusaur have interesting color combos as well! Looking forward to your next content!
looks amaizing, i think i will take the idea to my kroxigors! TY
Awesome! I hope it works out for you. Please share your results if you give it a shot!
I love using contrast paints like this.
Also, I never would have thought about using Magos Purple to shade gold, but I think I'll steal the idea!
thanks for watching! Steal the idea all you like. Hope it works well for you!
Wow amazing job ! Always wanted to see orange skin. Interested to see how you would apply this skin on hero on carnosaur.
that would be cool looking!
A green croc simular to this would be cool
Gorgeous autumn chonk lizard!
Fantastic finish. Love your content
Thanks! Glad you enjoy it!
Soothing tones + Kroxigors = :D
a winning combination!
videos like this really make me want to try out contrast paint. beautiful mini! thanks you.
Thanks for watching! Yes you should give Contrast paint a shot. It's a great tool for your toolbox.
I've been saying we need a 3rd Kroxigor.
Nice job showing us an example of an orange/yellow/red one.
Second breakfast and a third Kroxigor!
Lovely work and great tips thank you
Thanks for watching!
That's a very interesting take on the Kroxigor.
The new formula Vallejo paints create so many bubbles, especially when you are slapping paint down. It’s such a pain!
Yes it's really frustrating! I hope they solve the problem soon.
@@MattsHobbyHour it'd be good, but I don't think it will ever be fixed, at least not until they release a whole new formula in like 20 years.
you have a very solid painting scheme, congratulations! i use the same recipe for yellow models but i use vallejo ice yellow for the final highlights, try it out if you can ;)
I'll give it a shot, thanks!
Fantastic paintjob! I have 3 krocks on my painting desk, just waiting for me to decide what colour they're going to be. Your videos have given me a lot of food for thought! One of my squads of saurus is purple, so if you haven't done any purple lizards that could be an idea? Would be very interested in your approach to the colour.
Cheers!
Cool idea with the purple! Thanks for watching and for the suggestion!
Awesome, love it! Can you please make a green one next? Need green Kroxigors to complement my limegreen Saurus Warriors. :D
Green would be fun! I'll have to think up some color recipes. Thanks for watching!
Awesome! thanks
thanks for watching!
always good stuff @mattshobbyhour when are you gonna do some Kroot contrast hacks!???? please, pretty please.
some of the new Kroot models look pretty cool! I did a video for a basic Kroot troop a while back. I'll have to get my hands on one of the larger models some time. Those new flying guys are pretty cool too.
Typically I blow on the areas with air bubbles and they pop. You just have to ensure you don’t blow hard enough to spray wet paint on other areas of the model but it seems to work the best. Also it’s agitation that creates the bubbles so slower brush strokes help with not making them to begin with
Thanks for the tips!
Really loving these vids. Would it be possible to do a box art version of the kroxigor and the saurus? Although one of your other kroxigor vids looks similar to box art saurus... So maybe just the main colours you would use?
@@Riketz_ I'll have to do a blue/box style Saurus some time. Thanks for the suggestion!
Hi Matt, love your content -- I find myself tuning in on a regular basis. I have noticed that you use watered down acrylic blacks to punch up borders between details before moving onto the highlight stage. I have been wondering: did you ever consider switching to oil paints for that purpose?
thanks for watching! I find that oil paint is much less precise than acrylic. Because of mineral spirits' high capillary action, oil paint flows too much and doesn't stay where I paint it. Not to mention a longer drying time. Acrylic is more precise and better for this style of painting. That being said, I do use oil washes now and then, usually the end stages of a model, and it gives a different looking result. I think oil is better when you're going for a "grimdark" style, rather than a clean and bright style.
Paint a Dread Saurian! 🤣😂🤣
is your white zenithal an ink? or a white primer or something?
I just use Vallejo Game Color white acrylic paint, thinned with water. You could use white ink or primer instead and it should work fine too. Thanks for the question! Sorry I didn't specify what I use.
