I like how they’ve been slowly increasing the movement speed again in each game after Brawl. Ultimate is easily the closest to Melee in that sense. It’s still a little too floaty for my liking, but definitely a big improvement. Aside from that, I love the variety of the cast, it feels more balanced in some ways.
Tbh melee players (including myself) are going back. Everyone shits on melee for having no characters but each character has so much... character but in smash ultimate characters more or less have same simple grab combos
for real, there are very few technical characters in ultimate, while melee has ALL technical characters
It's not that melee has no characters, but if you ever want to win anything substantial in that game, you're basically limited to like 10 characters. That's less than half of the roster. Don't get me wrong, I love watching competitive melee, but it's the same handful of characters (Fox, Shiek, Puff, Falcon) every time in top 8. I'm not saying it's a shit game, but it is terribly unbalanced.
I feel nothing when watching Ultimate. That being said, it is the perfect gateway into melee, as its skill curve is a lot less daunting so it's easier to know what's going on and easier to become good. Then you go to melee, and you get hooked.
@@eCstaTicBomB I have reached the opinion of loving the imbalance that Melee offers because when I'm playing with some friends who are newer to the game I can fuck around on characters like Roy and still try my hardest to bust some sick combos. I think there are some extreme examples that I would refer more to as brokenness than imbalance, like G&W bad shield and lack of L-cancel on some moves, but I think Melee having a large spectrum of perceived usefulness in its cast is really cool.
Improvised combos exist in Melee from the ridiculous amount of hitstun every move has.
If Ultimate had that, we'd see a narrower selection of competitive characters.

Got close, but my favorite part of Melee, the movement, is still heavily lacking unfortunately.
I enjoy Ultimate, but my biggest issue is that platforms feels more limited than in Melee, with the main problem being that you can't slide off of them.

To be honest, I think this video overstates how much Ultimate healed the rift between the two communities. While I agree that it did a lot for the hostilities and Melee players can understand the game more, to say that Ultimate completely unified us and healed the rift is wrong. The vast majority of Melee players still prefer Melee by far; most of the people who initially played Ultimate have gone back to Melee by this point. Ultimate also still lacks a LOT in terms of gameplay. Ultimate did not bring back dash dancing as you said, it's still just better foxtrotting since you still can't dash backwards at any point in your initial dash. Furthermore, I would argue with the severe nerf to SDI and with how weak DI is, Ultimate actually has shallower punishes than Smash 4. Punishes in Ultimate are extremely cookie cutter and resemble traditional fighting game combos MUCH more than any game in the series with how you have to memorize the moves and execute. DI mixups and reverse hits are not a thing in Ultimate which makes punishes even shallower as well

I only have one real gripe with the Melee community. Everything has to be the same. I get it having stuff like wavedashing and stuff like that would be awesome but they even get mad when nintendo does not add a tiny thing that makes it "Braindead" or whatever

As a long time smash fan that has played all the games I think Ultimate may be my favorite. Don't get me wrong, I love melee but ultimate feels so much smoother on my opinion.

Armada, wizzrobe, plup, leffen (for the most part) play the game, with wizzy and plup doing really well in it in particular. So, with that alone you're wrong. Hbox also plays and is becoming a bigger part of it's scene. Mang0 I dont think plays much anymore, but has stated that he genuinely likes the game offline and has made friends with a number of it's top players. I grew up on 64 and brawl, and used to really hate melee people for being so mean. Now today I actually really like and appreciate what melee did, and have come to like parts of both scenes. Just think it's great ultimate really has brought everyone closer together despite what you and some other melee people still say. People can prefer which ever game they want, but be fair and respect others

only thing missing is the option to turn off Smash attacks from your [A button]directional input and keep them c stick only. That way i can do tilts better with the A button. Smash 4 did that right. i had NO input issues in that game
Try to put sensivity to low, it helps with tilts

It is reassuring that Sakurai seems to be paying some attention to the competitive community. It's interesting that Nintendo had yet to have a solid E-sport aside from Melee, hopefully Ultimate can fulfill that gap. I guess EVO will be revealing of that to a degree. Also enjoyed how you brought your own personal story into this, even if it was just to show off your sick plays.

Better than melee imo, it has more balance, everybody can do something, it's hype and you don't have to watch a meta ruled by the same ten characters, I like melee but ultimate will always be my preference, though I see a lot of melee players in the comments trashing ultimate in some form, they're different games, Melee is honestly just a downgrade for me, but it can be an upgrade to somebody else, it's preference, if you like a faster game with more emphasis on knowing what you can do, and ultimate is a fast game with more emphasis on just being able to get short combos and satisfying hits.

Anybody can claim any smash game is better, but it's down to opinion and preference, Melee has a higher skill cap, sure, but ultimate's balance and character diversity is my drive to the game, Melee just happens to not fit my play-style as well, I'm glad you like melee, and I won't argue anything you said personally, because I agree, it is more hype for certain, as I said, I like Ultimate because of something melee doesn't give me personally.

I love melee and dont play ultimate anymore because i hate it but even though i hate it i still believe that its the best smash game. It has sooo much content and definitely has had extreme amounts of work put into it and of course it successfully managed to unite melee players with smash 4 players sort of. So lots of credit to ultimate for being a great game. I just love melee more :)

Nintendo still does not like melee and does not want another melee. This became obvious to me when they left bayo broken so smash 4 would die and ultimate would take over. Never forget this. Nintendo is a great company but they are still a company. I promise at the end of ultimate the exact same thing will happen.

I will never understand why melee is 4 stocks smash 4 was 2 and ultimate is 3. I think 3 stocks makes the most sense or 1 stock (because the last stock is always the best) but 2 stocks and 4 stocks is weird to me.

In my defense, when I made the video leffen was really into ult and hadn't started hating on it so hard yet.
Regardless, it's still the only official non melee smash game to have so many melee players enter it in tournament (cross smash summit)
The respect was there for sure in the beginning, but as the games meta has progressed people are realizing how stale it is. The combos aren't as freeform as we thought they'd be, boring bread and butter spam, tons of input delay making the game a game of RPS half the time, safe retreating aerials etc.

Scourge is not concerned about the fact that there are many Smashers that like the games from brawl and onward but not melee. They would likely not play melee HD if it were to be released today because they like the later smash style more.

Well it did at first but now it's dying, or at least crumbling apart at a very fast rate. Poor sakurai, he can never catch a break. He nearly kills himself to make this game, he works hard on the dlc characters, and for what? A bunch of ungrateful people, toxic people, and now sex offenders are ruining sakurais masterpiece of a game.
I disagree with this video. Ultimate did not bring back dash dancing and the combos really aren't that complex in ultimate. It's mostly neutral game. And melee players do not respect ultimate at all
