Why would you give up your back like that? Sport BJJ or self defense this seems like a very bad idea? If you’re going to elbow in the end why not just come up with a hook over the top? Too much wasted energy from my perspective.
Exposing the back is the only way to generate the power required to break the double hand grip. Not an ideal situation I agree. Breaking the grip leaves the opponent's arms down and open to the elbow. The elbow isn't my favorite option, but I'm just keeping it true to Helio's instruction. Breaking the grip should always be the first attempt. If my opponent isn't punching me, I'm not punching them because they will punch back. Sure we can just stand there and slug it out, but this is just one other option. If a big guy has a hold of me, I may not want to take that chance.
@@jiu-jitsuself-defense8694eh, i agree with the original comment, there are a couple situations where its worth exposing your back, but exposing your back just to remove grips is not one of them. Especially when there are other effective options that don't expose back from this position. Id say this move is a bad idea. The grips will disappear once you start to attack his head. We even learn this basic concept in our bjj gym.
