      "Best Bands" unnecessarily--incorrectly, in fact--capitalized. Same with "Harmonica" and "Saxophone." But part of the band's name--"the news"--not capitalized. Twice. SMH.

    Just wanted to thank you fellas. Years ago you played a show in TN, I think Nashville. My friend invited me to go to your show and we drove my roommates car that stalled in the parking garage. You guys were just coming back to the venue and saw us and help push the car into a parking space. All gentlemen. I will never forget it. Much thanks to you. And for the many great shows you played for us all. Happy Labor Day!

    I remember seeing them perform this on SNL in the 80s. Despite their success, I always felt they were very underrated. A lot of talent on that stage. They showed they could play rock, blues, r&b, even some jazz.

      They were 1 of the most successful rock band of the day.

    • @DHudelson
      @DHudelson 6 років тому +6

      MIKECNW
      You're the one who doesn't get it when the OP says "despite their success". The point was that although they sold a lot of records and got tons of MTV play and airplay, they got discounted, being looked at as too commercial, and probably too poppy and clean-cut. But the fact of the matter is, they preserved the heart of rock 'n' roll and made something unique.
      ...so next time, consider that maybe you need to take a minute and understand, before disrespecting others.

    • @jenh9426

      I agree with them and know what i'm talking about... these guys can PLAY... and well...and always could.. Yes they were popular in the mid to late 80's.. and then their popularity dropped.. but they can still play well. a family member called me after "having" to take a work client to see them. they called me as they knew I was/am HUGE fan. They(musician themselves), called me stating that they were taken back and impressed/surprised how well they played.(apparently wasn't expecting that from a band that was hugely popular). They can play and are under rated/appreciated.

    Was vacationing in Clearwater. Wife and I drove over to St. Pete to hit the beach. Stopped in at one of those high rise hotels with an open air cafe for some coffee. Saw Huey sitting alone, with shades on, sipping coffee and reading a newspaper. Could tell he was enjoying his solitude. I did not want to ruin his quiet time, but had to let him I know I knew it was him. Just passed by him slowly, paused and said, Welcome to St. Pete man. He gave us a big smile and thumbs up.

      islandbee So You were born in the 70's and grew up in the 80's . That's still a good time to grow up . Its not just music but history you live in like when the Berlin Wall came down in your time . Im from the 70's and grew up when you could get in bars at 18 but was really getting at 16 , no picture driver license and getting yin yang back then was easy . I love 80 music an at night watch pop up video on VH-1 ,I cant listen to music in this century maybe a handful to 2003 The only downfall of growing up in your time is never not knowing what some freedom was before the internet and the eye in the sky. .

    • @islandbee
      @islandbee 8 років тому +3

      Dan Reese We sure did have it easy back then. I was getting into the beer gardens when I was like 14, and would use my brother's ID to get into the bars around 16 too. That was when they really didn't care as much and would just let you in anyway. Nowadays the door guys are such douche bags if you go to the clubs. Like no thanks man. The music they play on the radio today makes me want to rip my ears off. lol That's why I'd rather just stay home most of the time because of the music they play at most of these establishments. I get really happy when there's a place/radio station when they are playing good old school music. Pretty rare nowadays.

    A true foot note in music history. While traveling through Europe pre fame Heuy Lewis met the guys from a band called Thin Lizzy and ended up performing with them live and that show was recorded for a live album. All true.

    80s were so great with Michael Jackson, Maddonna, Whitney Houston, Genesis, U2, Metallica, Journey, Foreighner, Prince that we forget all the other hall of fame bands like Huey Lewis.
    Musically no better decade period.
