- We stopped in Salida for a couple of nights to enjoy the area. While there we had a strong front move through bringing high winds and even a little bit of snow which was our first for the Big Haul 2021.
How has the Kodiak been for y’all? What year is it
I agree! We gave up KOA (Camp on asphalt) and Thousand Trails a couple years ago and now we use mainly Harvest Host, small independent RV parks, or dry camping on BLM land. And now that I have a full solar system that produces enough energy to keep us warm or cool all day long, hook ups aren't a priority. Though it is a little harder finding dump stations and fresh water, but, so far (fingers crossed), we haven't had to go without. Thanks for taking us along on your adventures. We never miss an episode.
It’s better going into the head wind and safer going towards Canyon City than across South Park. Sometime you should stop by Buckskin Joe town, if you like western movies. I use to drive School Buses over Monarch Pass, Red Mountain Pass, Wilkerson Pass and Ute Pass. I know exactly what the pucker factor is like running those hills . Stay safe and have fun. Those cinnamon rolls from Starving Arvins are the best, really miss Montrose but couldn’t stand the growth spurt we went through and left there in 96. Fred. 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻✋🏻✋🏻
Love Salida. Next time through you need to have breakfast at Patio Pancake. Excellent breakfast.
Russell from RVer TV has a lot of tips on campsites. Very nice person
Goodstuff Adam!!
Thanks and love your videos!
I am very familiar that area. My family camped up near St Elmo in Cascade campgrounds. First year we were there (in July) it got down to 28 that night. It is in middle of several 14teeners. There was snow at Tincup pass. We also visited Buena Vista during our vacations. Dad would trout fish in the mornings and we would do day trips. Seeing Salida in the title made me smile.
KOA is the worst. They are convent for a quick stop, State Parks and Corp of Engineering locations are the best. You cant beat National Park locations too. Love your guys adventures.
Totally understand the slide topper racket. I was at Glamis during a windy few days, and the topper was making me crazy. Someone said they put a beach ball between the slide box and the topper. Never tried it.
We bought our house in Cañon City a year ago, and on Monday the 29th, we Finally went on the train through the gorge for my birthday! It was a lot of fun and the weather was absolutely perfect!
Nice view Adam. What the experience you guys had trying to sleep in a camper with gusty winds. Looking forward to the next one
Couldn't you just close the side out during the wind storm its not part of the bedroom right?
The we can't get into the bedroom
Starvin Arvins has always been a favorite! There is a place (at least there was) about 3/4 of the way up the north access, off I70, to Grand Mesa that has (had?) marvelous cinnamon roles. Best I ever had
Wish we could get that snow here.
Put a beach ball underneath that slide topper it will keep it from making so much noise👍🇺🇲
You couldn't wind in that slide out part and still use the Camper?
Wonder if theres a way you can make a deflection device or blocking device for you slide out?
NOT YOU IN IT 😁 ~~~~~~~~ GREAT FOOD !!!!!!!! SAFE TRAVELING ........
I live in SE Idaho, I am very familiar with that type of weather.
I take a rope and wrap around slide and awning, tighten just enough to take up slack to stop flapping. This will quite down noise.
Do you have a video on how the bike is mounted to the front of the truck? That would be interesting!
On my other channel Abom79 I have a video series on that bike carrier, it’s in my playlist. I also highlighted it a couple of times here back in the summer.
man i'm HONGRY now lol
That was a great trip. Why not put the slide out in when you go to bed on windy nights?
Not possible to access the bedroom or bathroom with slide in. It’s not designed to be use without the slide out.
@@AbomAdventures Well, that answers that !
I have decided to quit using KOAs also. Too expensive, prefer boondocking or dispersed
There's too many things about how they handle business that I am just tired of. Overpriced, too close to your neighbors, they always put you in a bad site, late check in, and countless other aggravations I have experienced over the last couple of years.
I prefer the national forests or lakes, KOAs ussually too far from. I like to step out of my tent or camper be able to walk 20 feet to the lake or river to fish not drive another 5 miles to find the lake crowded
One time I used a tovehicle the block to wind so just thought you'd wanna know
Like the Cumbres and call dad sold back toll tech
Salida is a very nice area to spend some time. Great videos Adam.

How about throw a ratchet strap over the slide out awning and hook the ends under the slide out and synch it down? Or throw a couple dutch ovens up there. LOL
I liked someone else's idea of putting a couple beach balls up there.
