"We've missed the point. But that's okay because we're right on schedule."
That line hit me hard. I've always stressed over the amount of ground that the enemy has gained on the Western church. I've cried out to God over my friends who are stuck traveling deeper into the wilderness of legalism and neo arianism. I know God loves them and will guide them home, and if they accept and trust in His gift they will experience restoration, but I still loathe the divide that exists between this modern monstrosity we call a "Gospel" and the true, ancient news of God's glory and His rescue of us. Thank you for that line Baxter. You reminded me that Holy Spirit has it all over control, and there's nothing for me to stress over.

Well this makes a hell of a lot more sense than God not being able to look at us or our sin and requiring a blood sacrifice because “them’s the rules” and God doesn’t break even his own rules.

I’m 30 years old and after being in the Charismatic, Pentecostal, church all my life. I always felt like something was missing, like I was only allowed to go so far. Hearing this message over the past 6 months has finally introduced me to truly good news!!

What a blessed relife to have labels stripped away at last: no more Church of Christ or Baptist or Catholic or Pentecostal or Calvinist or man formulated constructs to step us up to God. Jesus, Jesus. Never more real to me as now and I hope to see even more and feel this blessed relief and love IN HIM.

To hear the total "good news" is to finally "get" the gospel. Jesus IN us. Yet so many "churched" people are afraid to listen. Oh, wake, dear ones. weep for what we have not known and by God's grace are now learning.

What about "he became sin for us" or whatever? Doesn't that mean his death was required for us to be forgiven?

Irrenaeus wrote,” That which is not assumed can not be healed.” We were infected with the disease of death, causing us to sin. He entered into our sin and death to heal our brokenness.

@@robertmenta8820 How does him dying on the cross heal our brokenness and sin? I just never quite understood that.

Through dying our death He was able to get on the inside of humanity and begin transforming us.
There are two threads in the church dealing with atonement. The early church taught that humanity was sick, infected with a disease call death, and we needed a cure.
The other thread that humanity’s sinfulness offended a Holy God who needed a sacrifice, and that a perfect sacrifice, is why Jesus died on the cross. This was theorized by Augustine who turned heaven into a court room using a model of Roman jurisprudence and God was cast into the roll ofJudge, making no reference to the council of Nicene 325 AD which began with the words,”We believe in one God, The Father almighty
Not holy judge, but Almighty Father. We in western Christianity say Christ died to change the Father’s mind about us, where as Paul writes,” that God demonstrates His own-love towards us, in that while we were yet-sinners, Christ to die for us.
This was a rescue plan. St Athanaisus in his book, On the Incarnation, wrote, what was this God being good to do as He saw the creation that He loved on the road to ruin.” It’s about healing, not getting His anger appeased

@@robertmenta8820 Thank you I appreciate you explaining. I'm just confused but trying to understand.
So is it the fact that Jesus showed kindness and forgave us, despite us doing our worst to Him, that transforms us? Or is there some spiritual component where Jesus somehow spiritually absorbed the disease of death and sin and destroyed it with him?
It's just really hard for me to understand what it means for him to "die for us" without it meaning that He appeased God the Father's wrath. I could understand that Jesus "died from us" since we killed him. It's not like Jesus jumped in front of a bullet meant for us that came from Satan, so the "for" still leaves me confused if it doesn't mean that He jumped in front of a bullet that came from God the father.

@@DJ5780 the FOR our sins, it was a self sacrifice meant to show solidarity with us in our pain of sin and to heal us from it and save us from death/hell. He both died because OF our sins, as we were the ones sacrificing him, but also FOR our sins as he did not fight back but accept it as he knew from the beginning that we will do that to him and still came for us. It’s a double sacrifice if that makes sense, his and ours. This truly shows the love of God, his acceptance of us, his solidarity, his understanding, his compassion, mercy, empathy and most importantly forgiveness which lead to justice. He forgave us when we didn’t even ask for it, before it was even completely done. All the things Jesus showed us about God’s likeness were revealed in that one single moment. That’s why John also said that he praises and gives glory only to the cross. I hope this helped.

Very good message. However, it is not Jesus in us but Christ (the anointing) in us that is the light, the eternal life. (The letter "J" was not even used until the 1600's.) Christ Jesus was showing the "WAY" to be connected with the father and the good news is that we are all one. What he was able to do, we are able too, if we believe his teachings and follow his example. Blessings
