you just have to make the sheath to end a little bit after the thickest part of the handle and you need to put the right amount of plastic foil when it dries :D
The "original" Bowie Knife " was made from an old file /rasp, (depending on your interpretation of the history.),, so the first minutes of the video, are great to watch, (as a massive Bowie fan),,,, Beautiful knife btw,, Thank you,,,
Thank you. This is very interesting. i really want to read and learn more about the Finnish knives and blades in general but it's hard to find info on English :)
I do not think it is a tanto (i think the title of one of his videos says its finnish) but i do not want to start an argument about it so il put a smiling face :D
Outstanding job thanks for sharing that really is a beautiful knife and it’s huge for the stile it is a puukko isn’t such a big knife normally but I love everything about it thanks again Scott
Wow! Excellent work. I made a sheath similar to that (not nearly as nice though) a few years ago. I used cedar planks for salmon (unused) and thin veneer for a cigar box to make the spacer for the blade. Then I wrapped it in leather. Between the leather, cedar and cigar, the sheath smells great!
Beautiful work. Here in finland some call these long puukkos jääkäripuukkos. It means something like jaeger knife in germany jaeger means hunter or infantryman, but finnish jääkäri just infantry man. I guess soldiers liked bit bigger blades to typical puukkos during war.
Thank you for this information friend. I really want to read and learn more about puukkos and other Finnish knives but the resources available in English are a bit limited.
hahaha thanks mate - when you are too lazy to make your grinder a table and grinding jig , you just learn to grind freehand ;d (and my bevels are far from perfect :) )
You should have stayed with the olive wood. It is very oily and you need no finish to put on it. It will always seem like it’s not dry. You actually don’t want It to dry. Just buff it out and it will look like you put a finish on it. And now and then put some leather conditioner on it to keep it FROM drying out. It’s very strong and very beautiful.
That is a beautiful knife. Somewhat like a traditional Scottish Sgian Dubh (pronounced 'ski-en doo'). I have one of your early vids saved in my knife making playlist, in the description you mentioned that no one around you takes an interest in what you make. Their loss, it's true craftsmanship.
I would really like to know how you infiltrated my mind and extracted my perfect puuko design. All joking aside, that thing is beautiful, and to my mind perfect! Excellent work!
Interesting to only see sanding tools used in the rough shaping of the handle. I normally use rasp, file and plane for coarse work. What kind of wood did you use for the sheath? It looks weirdly soft and flexible.
FANTASTIC KNIFE,I LOVE THAT KNIFE BUT THE BRASS STOP SHOULD SOME HOW BE ABLE TO STOP YOUR HAND FROM SLIDING DOWN ONTO THE SHARP BLADE.SAY YOU GOT INTO IT WITH A GRIZZLY BEAR, THE BLOOD WOULD MAKE YOUR HAND SLIPPERY.BUT I WILL SAY THIS AGAIN THATS A FANTASTIC KNIFE,VERY GOOD JOB...
So that s how the make knifes in Finland I always wanted to try to make a file knife, I make them like I learned in Crete from car leafs, greatings to suomi 💕
Thank you :) The wheels on the anvil are two big magnets. I put them so the anvil doesn't ring too much. And the last belt is cork belt with polishing compound on it - very much like strop , yes.
One of the most beautifull finnish like knife I've ever seen :).
Fantastic work! Should be more than proud to own a puukko like that! Wow!!
The click when the knife fits in the sheath. Mark of the true craftsmanship

Superb and gorgeous knife. Love the "hamon" and handle.

sounds very nice indeed. Its very nice when the materials that you use feel and smell good :)

Gorgeous sheath.

I used olive wood before and it's exactly what you say - very nice stuff. Maybe you are right , but I was afraid that it may warp or crack with time.
That was awesome, including the sheath making part.
Thanks friend :) I hate making sheaths for regular knives , but the puukko sheaths are just a pleasure to make :)
Beautiful work and skilfully done Sir. 👏👍
La lame est fantastique, en fait tout ce travail est remarquable, merci du partage 👍
