    You did good. You did not freak out. You never just get over a close call. But it makes you more aware of your surroundings and what is going on around you. Witch is a good thing. We learn every time we ride. Just know you did good you are still here. Ride on!

    Wow! That was some amazing defensive maneuvering Staci. So glad you made it out physically. Having close calls like that does leave some scaring on you mentally. It's good to see you didn't let it stop you from enjoying your traveling, although it has left you with ptsd I hope you may find a way to over come that obstacle.

    Way to go getting back on the horse especially with PTSD! Happy you didn’t get hurt! 9 months ago I got T-boned by an F150 pickup. Had surgery on my severely broken leg, broke ankle, heel, foot, ribs, hand, deep laceration on head (yes, I had a helmet on), many facial lacerations and a concussion. My Streetglide was totaled but I wasn’t. I’ve been riding for almost 30years and that was my first major accident. It’s been a long, painful and tough road but I’m getting there! I’m now on my new Streetglide with almost 5K on it! Thank goodness for my fitness background. Being in shape has definitely gotten me through this. Do I have PTSD….hell yeah! But I believe you have to face your fears or they will “swallow you!” Ride safe and enjoy this road we are on!!!!!! BTW. Love your videos!!!!!

    I had this happen to me in the high Nevada desert, an 18 wheeler passing another 18 wheeler and all I had was about a 2 foot shoulder and then a cliff. It was awful!! I like that you touched on the medical aspect of a close call like this. More people in our society have PTSD then we realize!!!

    let me start by saying HIGH 5,..for being open,..upfront and honest about your incident. indeed the same thing happens when we drive 4 wheels,... but being on 2wheels definitely puts it into a whole different perspective. but as we all know, its the inherent risk we take to get smiles from miles.....!!! as always,...cool insight on places to eat and thanks for sharing the beautiful landscape this GREAT country has to offer.... ride safe...😎

      nice! I always enjoyed going from central PHX up the 51, and then the 101 down to the 202 for a quick night ride "loop" when I lived there. The 51 is my favorite for whatever reason, lol!

    • @SEILLC
      @SEILLC 3 роки тому

      @@ridetofood I honestly try to avoid the big city. And the 51 is one of the deadlier roads, especially at night. With the exception of So. Mtn, the only freeway or city riding I do is on the way out of town. Unfortunately you gotta ride an hour to get to any decent riding around here. But right now, my bike is on the battery tender and I wont touch it for another couple months except to start it and move some fluids around. Way too hot. Been there done that, and it's not fun.

    I came back and watched this video again. This is the first video I ever saw of yours, and I stumbled across it less than a month after my accident. I wasn't even close to being able to ride again at the time.
    That being said, I watched it a few times once I got strength back in my leg, and it definitely helped me get back on the bike.
    I know that fear, for me it is every time I'm passing a truck on my left and someone could be turning from the other direction. It definitely took me quite a few miles to be able to pass a truck slowing to turn without slowing down, and I'm still sketched about some situations. But every time I ride I get better.
    Just wanted you to know, that I took you saying go out there and ride, face your fears and eat tacos, to heart, and it's helped me tremendously!

  • @HARMARSCH2
    @HARMARSCH2 3 роки тому

    Staci, Thank goodness you weren’t killed by that Crown Victoria. Yes facing your fears after something like that is always good. I wrecked my truck one time. I walked everywhere for about six months. No matter how much someone tried to get me behind the wheel I wouldn’t drive. I worked the Night Shift and walked to and from work. My Dad and youngest brother had me go with them somewhere. When we got there my truck was sitting there all fixed, I had no idea it was my truck because last I saw it,it was in pieces. I was walking around checking it out when my Dad and Brother left. I called my brother, Dad told me it’s time to drive again……..if you want to get home. Took me longer than normal but I drove home. Felt good. I drove by the accident site and looked at how I could’ve been killed. I got home a nervous wreck but I’m glad they made me drive.

    Mine was June of 2017, four lane traffic with a middle turn lane. A car pulled out from the right trying to go the opposite direction and just sat sideways covering my entire lane. I was looking in my mirror when he pulled out so I didn't see him till I was too close. Out of reaction I hit the rear brake. As soon as I did it started sliding out from under me, so all I could do was ride it out. Sliding on its side sparks flying, I was trying to clime on top of the bike to get away form the pavement. Somehow missed the car, then it flipped and sent me air born for a ways. Landed on my head and shoulder with a couple other hard hits. Barrel rolled for probably at least 100ft I remember the swirls of colors and trying to keep my arms and legs pulled in as they would have for sure broke, also hitting the curb. Surprisingly, no broken bones the ER could find, just a LOT of soft tissue damage. So yeah, I guess PTSD from that but honestly didn't even realize that's what I have till I saw this video. I think I'm getting better all the time, but still a little twitchy at intersections or anywhere a vehicle pulls up from the side. Thanks for this video, it can be hard to talk about because you basically replay it in you mind when you do. However can also help to get it out there. Stay safe out there, you have some great videos!

I went back, like I do every year, 16 months later, to put that experience behind me, and it worked. I learned my lesson the time before. I'm definitely not doing that again. Btw, when I'm there, I like to eat at the Opa Life Greek Cafe. Excellent food. I also eat at the Palma Kitchen + Tap at Encanterra Country Club in Queen Creek. The short rib pot roast is amazing. I had short rib queso the first time I went there, but when I went back, they had taken it off the menu. They'll make it, though.

    Hit a deer last year and it's on my mind every time I ride into anything remotely wooded (which in Oregon is an awful lot). I've ran into two cars and a truck in my teenage years and I'm still riding at 64 yrs old. I have a ZX14 now. Last bike was a Busa. Before that, a 92 CBR 1000... I just never assume I have the right away if a meet a car at an intersection.

    I understand the PTSD part, we were on vacation when I saw my husband go down after hitting an oily patch on a damp road in East Tennessee. I didn’t ride for 6 months after he passed and all I see was him going down when I did. Riding alone I’m ok, but I still get a little freaked with left hand sweeping turns when riding with a group. I’m enjoying your videos, you’re super inspiring me.

      @@ridetofood Thank you! He loved riding, sold and worked on bikes, and like you, helped new riders. My friends and I are taking a 2 week trip out to the Black Hills, Yellowstone and Grand Teton this summer, I am super excited to be out there on roads he wanted to ride.

    I just discovered your channel, i really enjoy your content, i heard you mention PTSD after the crown vic tried to take you out, after riding 30yrs now i definately can relate, especially when it comes to riding down in arkansas, i have rode 1-3 times a year every year since may of 1995 down there & cant even begin to count all the close calls i have had especially on-coming 4whl vehicles & even motorcycles over the centerline, yup everytime i plan a trip down there riders PTSD sets in!!! Keep up the good work & thank you for the awesome motorcycle content.

    We live on SoMo and ride it regularly. I haven't experienced anything like your clip, and I hope I never do. I've seen people bite it with less provocation. You exercised excellent reflexes and survived to ride it again.

    Wow glad your ok. I feel your pain. Feb 28, 2021 I was headed east on 278 out of piedmont AL in a left hand curve when I met a young person texting on there phone. They came in my lane, driver mirror hit my fairing, bumper hit my crash bar. I left the road my Harley Ultra flipped end over end throwing me over the handle bars. I got a small cut below my lower lip but was ok. The rescue squad wenched the Harley out of the ditch and I was able to ride it home. The bike was totaled. To this day when I go in a left hand curve I tense up.

    You did the right thing riding it again. In 2003 I was in a crash caused by a car and watched 2 good friends die before my eyes. I had a lot of trouble ride interstate hyways . Until I took the same trip and as I passed the spot it was like breaking through a wall. And I have not looked back.

    Think of it like this- PTS is actually a healthy response to a traumatizing event. It has helped keep you safe in all your subsequent rides, and when viewed that way begins to lose some of its more scary edges. I personally chose to dive into it and embrace it, like a riding buddy that sits in your helmet and reminds of of the dangers, but just wants the best for you.
