  • We’ve decided to go big with the RV and hit the road for 50 weeks, visiting every US state along the way! It’s a crazy undertaking and who knows if Clementine will even be up for the task, but we’re just so excited to finally travel in her instead of watching her sit in a driveway for another year! We may not know the exact route and we still have tons of last minute things to sort, but nothing can stop us now!

@4:10 The rule should be thus:
You must spend one full day (24 hours) in a state to cross it off the list and while within the state you must make a good faith effort to interact with the state and it's peoples at least twice.
Your interactions could include camping there, shopping there, a regional meal, a local show, something unique and local to that state. You may, of course stay longer at your discretion, you may do more, you may pass through a state and come back, but the "minimum visit" to earn your merit badge, as it were, should be something like "24 hours continuously within the borders of the state and at least two interactions with notable local amenities."
If you're looking to do more just fiddle with the numbers, maybe 48 hours and 5 interactions is your ratio, or maybe you want two major interactions and 2 minor interactions. You can start with a list of what is what and modify it as you go along.

The North Shore of Lake superior is one of the most stunning parts of America. You guys would love Duluth it's an adorable little town that has the largest freshwater port in the world. The upper peninsula of Michigan is one amazing forest with huge trees and great views of the Great Lakes. By cutting them off you are missing some of the most beautiful parts of America.

I live in Ketchikan, Alaska, the southernmost Alaska city, and there's two routes you're missing! Drive to Bellingham and take the ferry to Ketchikan! It's about 20 hours. You can also drive through Canada to Prince Rupert (about a day's drive from Seattle) and take a 6 hour ferry to Ketchikan! Maybe one up and one back! I'd be happy to show you around. :)

It's very hard to drive in Alaska. Some places can only be reached by boat or train. I recommend that you drive up the west coast of Michigan. The scenery is spectacular and the food (fresh fish and cherries)is excellent. We have a nice wine and craft brewery industry in the Traverse City, and the Leelenau Peninsula is beautiful.
Cross the Mackinac Bridge, drive west and hit Wisconsin

As you are going across northern Indiana, make a slight detour and visit one of the Michigan dunes such as Warren Dunes. The southwest Michigan lakeside communities are nice.
The biggest problem with visiting Wisconsin is that Chicago is in the way. Pick a weekend morning and go through early. Your route is as good as any. Swinging wide west doesn't do much good.
Sounds like a lot of fun. I'd like to do something like that.

Would definitely recommend heading north first and spending the summer in the Midwest (only because that’s my favorite season in MN/WI/MI 😊 and you should probably avoid the north/Midwest/northeast in the snowy/freezing winter with Clementine and Ms Ruby Suzuki) then heading East for the fall before heading south and the out west in the winter. Would definitely recommend going all the way up to Lake Superior (Ya’ll would love Duluth/Superior area if you haven’t been already! Some great state and national parks and breweries too!) and then following along the south shore of Superior through WI (hit up the apostle islands to kayak through the sea caves!) and down through MI. Excited for this journey for you and to get to follow along on your adventure!

It's just a rough drawn map line of the big interstates they can use and not the exact roads they will be on as they can (and will as they even said on the video) easily leave the main interstates to drive into each States locations that they want to see and explore. Plus they have to choose locations with RV parking and can use the Suzuki to go explore in a smaller more manageable car with better gas mileage.

As a New Englander, I can tell you that its very do able to hit all 6 states in under 8 hours. You won't see much, buts its easily done. As a Northern New Englander, I would say to just drive thru the 3 southern New England States(Mass, RI, & Ct.) And do your sight seeing in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. If you are coming to see Fall foliage, Vermont is amazing. Avoid Maine as it is mostly an evergreen state. NH is 50/50 for foliage. East side bordering Maine has mostly evergreens. West side bordering Vt. is mostly Maple hardwood like Vermont. Its the maple hardwood that have the super intense yellows, reds and orange autumn colors. But for foliage, timing is everything. Its all up to Mother Nature. Fall foliage happens on average between the last week of September until the end of the 2nd week of October. And it happens from north first and gradually move to southern New England. For instance, the end of the 1st week of October might have brilliant color in the southern parts of Vt and NH but all the leaves have turned brown or pale yellow in the northern parts. If you cant be here during fall foliage. In Maine, my favorite part is the coast line. In the south, York Harbor is very scenic. From there up to Kennebunkport is a nice drive on 1A. Avoid 1A in NH if travelling in summer. Lots of great seafood on the Maine coast too. Especially for clams, steamers and Lobsta's. In NH, the Lakes region is nice. Mt Washington roadway is cool if the weather is clear. Not RV friendly at all. Tow vehicle is best here, or take one of the pay tours, van or better yet, the train up top "The Rockpile". Vermont has some unique attractions. The Hope Cemetery in Barre is worth a few hours. Barre was built on its granite quarries and some of the most beautiful grave stones and memorials can be seen there. Smugglers Notch near Stowe is a must do if you have a day. Again, the road up is best suited to your tow vehicle. At the Notch there is great hiking trails. Rock climbing from novice to pro and many caves to explore. The Stowe Vt area is quite beautiful on its own. Many Europeans that have been to Stowe have compared it to many areas in the Alps. Though on a much smaller scale. When the Von Trapp family of The Sound of Music fame escaped Europe in WWII, Stowe is where they settled down as it reminded them of their homeland. You can visit the Von Trapp Lodge too. Good luck on your travels.

We had a 7Kw generator onboard and I cant tell you how important this item had become getting us out of some rather interesting situations. I strongly suggest taking one along in Ruby as its a life saver.

There are tons of specialty craft breweries; and themed pub crawls throughout the year. I know these aren't detailed maps, and central Oregon is incredibly beautiful, but I would hate to think that you might miss out on the Oregon coast. There's no way you have time to see it all, but if you had a week or so, you could experience a pretty fair representation of what Oregon has to offer. (Get ready for an info-dump!)
My best attempt at a "See A Little Bit Of Everything Route" would be to come up Highway 101 from San Francisco so you can visit the redwoods (because you HAVE to visit the redwoods, believe me).
Then up the southern Oregon coast, soaking in the views (all 362 miles of coastline have protected public access, so there's literally no on-beach development).
Then turn east to go through Eugene and continue on Highway 126 to Bend, which will give some some gorgeous mountain-y forest landscape to drive through.
Turn north at Bend and go through some high desert territory before hitting wide plains with farm fields that seem to go on forever and majestic mountains in the distance.
Turn left again at The Dalles and drive along the Columbia River Gorge, which has more amazing views and a LOT of waterfalls to see.
In a couple hours, you'll be in Portland, which is justly famous for the food and the indie/bohemian/progressive vibe.
Finally, it's only a couple more hours west to see the northern Oregon coast, which can have a much rockier, wilder feel. I highly recommend Oswald West State Park for a walk through the woods to picnic tables on a bluff overlooking a lovely little beach that's popular with surfers (in wet suits, of course, that water is cold!). Then on to Washington!
Some of these roads are pretty curvy and steep, but they are incredibly beautiful. I wouldn't blame you at all for choosing more direct routes (especially with Clementine and Ruby), but you won't find more awe-inspiring landscapes.
And honestly, this itinerary leaves out some truly amazing places in eastern Oregon, like the Malheur National Forest, but it can get pretty remote with a lot of driving, so it's hard on a limited schedule.
I would suggest anytime from late spring to early fall for your visit, because winter brings a lot of rain west of the mountains and a lot of snow east of them.
Can you tell I really love Oregon? I'm so excited for your trip and to see you experience whatever parts of my state you end up seeing! We'll see you on the road!

Love it! So excited to see you guys traveling in Clementine. Been watching the whole renovation.
I'm sure you'll have to make some sacrifices to get all 50 states in 50 weeks, but as a guys who's lived in Utah, New Mexico and Arizona I have to tell you, the 4 corners area is pretty much the worst part of all four states...and especially Utah, if 4 corners is your only experience in Utah, you're missing out big time.
Good luck guys, whatever you do it's gonna be a blast 😎

    • @Theendlessadventure
      @Theendlessadventure  2 роки тому

The ultimate plan is just to keep Clementine stationed near that four corners area and then do trips in the Suzuki to all the best parts of the states to keep the miles down on the RV. Luckily we've traveled quite a bit through the area in the past, so we're really looking forward to recreating some of our favorite memories all across those states!

You need to go to Leelanau County, and Grand Traverse City in Michigan. Why? So glad you ask? First, wine country, wine tours. Then the best senic places ever. July is Cherry Festival in Traverse City. You can visit The sand dunes in Empire MI. along with the scenic drive❤. Fish Town enhances Leland MI. A historic old fish town, fully remodeled. Each shanty is a little store. Then Carlson's fishery. They offer fresh fish and smoked fish, all by the Cheese Shanty. Then you can have lunch and dinner by the water fall. You all love food and there are great restaurants in Traverse City. Downtown Traverse there is Doug Murdock's fudge and Cherry Republic. You can fish, swim, kayak, canoe, water sports and explore beautiful forest. I hope you will visit, you will not regret it, not one minute! And LOTS of campsites!

  • @MichaelFitzgerald1

I think the goal should be to explore more of what each state has to offer than merely hitting all 50 states. For example, Utah is much more than the 4 corners. (Have you seen how many national parks Utah has?!) Maine is another example that you mostly seem to miss out on. I think it's still doable to hit all 50 states (+ DC!) in a year and not to just tick them off your list.

Two Words - Alaska Cruise . . . from Seattle (ok that's 4 words). 7 nights in the standard length. Yes Clementine has to stay in Seattle, but you get can a nice taste. If you save up some extra time, fly to Anchorage and spend 3-5 days (Denali, Kenai Pennisula, etc) and then take a 7 night one way cruise from Seward to Vancouver, BC. And go for balcony room this time, much nicer than squeezing 4 people into an interior room.

You could come North in the Lower Peninsula by I75 or US131 to US31 to Mackinac City there is Wilderness Camp Grounds, take the ferry to Mackinac Island as there is no cars or trucks not allowed on the Island only horse,& buggy and bikes. Next day cross the 5 mile long Mackinaw Bridge now in Upper Peninsula take US 2 West all the way across Upper Peninsula to Wisconsin & any other Midwest state. Stay safe. Walk in Peace.

You should consider the weather, hitting the North in the Summer and the South in the Winter.
You could fly to Alaska and Hawaii from anywhere, considering flight prices.
Nevada does not have to include Las Vegas. We've all seen LV and Clark County is just the small part of NV that we'd like to trade (for Plumas and Lassen) to CA. You could visit Virginia City and take Mt. Rose Highway to Lake Tahoe.
As for California, take the Golden Gate North and continue through the Avenue of the Giants (the most beautiful part of the state).

Up north is so beautiful and there’s so many cool aspects to northern Michigan! I know it’s not RV accessible but there’s islands on the Great Lakes that are so worth it! Also if you guys like cherries you have to stop in Grand Traverse County! Cherry capital of the world! It is very buggy so if works for you guys and you don’t mind the cooler weather, come through Michigan during the fall. Not only will you see awesome fall colors the bugs won’t be as bad. 😊
