R-Type Delta has a very strong adrenaline-inducing arcade action ''feel'' to it. It has very nice visuals and audio that stand up well even today. It even implemented a primitive achievements system long before that was a thing - this game really did have it all! Definitely the best R-Type on all systems, I'd even argue it's the best shoot 'em up I've ever played...
In my opinion R-type is the only shmup series to creep me out. The bydo are a really awesome enemy concept, but they also give me the chills especially knowing that some of the bydo used to be humans.
The fact still remains since they have the power to make anything into their own kind, including humans And its revealed they are made from using human DNA(thus having a similar structure of it), as in just the most darkest, wildest, feral, savage, evil parts of humanity itself, its almost as if all the humans channeled the evil and darkness within themselves to create this terrifying weapon
Also, why was the Bydo created? To fight another alien invasion (R-Type Tactics 2 Operation Bitter Chocolate) What kind of enemy made the humans so desperate, to put all of their collective evils, in one nasty package to bring the fight to them. What's worse because Bydo is made from humans as well they are conscious, heck you could've become a bydo that sided with humanity, but humanity thinks otherwise, giving rise to more conflict. You get a taste of it in both Tactics and Final games, you are assimilated, alive, conscious and just wants to go home, guess what? You're not welcome anymore. And ooh boy, based on Tactics 2, the enemy we made the Bydo for? they are still fcking alive and they are biding their time, not even Bydo is enough Final is never Final, until it's total annihilation for all sides. Human, Bydo, and the unknown enemy.
Choo choo those are probably the 2 very best on the console and from the generation that's why. Masterpieces, both of them, it's very sad that despite their amazing quality, the mainstream shuns them.
Funny how R-Type Final & Gradius V were both enjoyed by their respective fanbases but both games failed to top their magnum opus despite having superior tech. Of course I'm referring to this game & Gradius Gaiden being the better games. At least GV and RTF both offered something new to the table instead of being made with haste & being the same old same.

+Klabauter Mann Agreed I love the series but that game kinda lost me. Worst of the Rtype games out of the ones that I have played (which is most of them)
CRUSTY and DUSTY game reviews The level design or better said pacing was a bit disappointing, yes, but that's not all which makes a game good. Final has many other things which make it an awesome game. I love all R-Type games and Final is horribly underappreciated imo.
+Klabauter Mann Yea maybe I didn't give it a fair shake, I'm about to give it more time as I'm making a few reviews (including some R-type games) to release in the near future.
CRUSTY and DUSTY game reviews Yea, one of the things I like about Final is the huge content it has. It makes fun unlocking all these ships and the hidden stages are also cool. Most annoying thing for me is just the horrible slow down, sometimes, but I guess that depends on what you play it on.
7:44 - Ok, CHEAT CODES ENABLED!! I've played this game 1000s of times. He should have died there a few times. He ran right through that obstacle twice! And he's using save states pretty hard.
This version may not be on modern consoles but R-Type Dimensions is on XBLA,you have to search for it as its kind of hidden away on the arcade game listing.
I can't remember the story behind it exactly but I think humans created the bydo and they are continuing to evolve and the final stage is pretty much their attempt to fully evolve
The r13A travelled to another dimension(the crisis is started that the another dimension is invaded by bydo and it is trying invade the dimension of players country by distributing those weapons in the base) to destroy the bydo in other dimension.
I've always wondered about Stage 2. If the Bydo were in the water treatment centers, would that mean there was a shortage of drinking water and rationing due to the contamination. And did people who drank the contaminated water, mutate into bydo?
this game was awesome, I always used the tentacle type so I could use the tentacles to destroy the foe disconnect the module for an automatic firing upon foe's coming from behind I never passed 5th contact inside the stomach because I always slammed into a upcomming barrier due to the distorted vision of that stage
i may be wrong, but there a a few moments where i think you play with deactivated sprite-collision. For example at: 05:47 in Level 1 or especially in Level 2 from 07:45 - 07:47. But anyway, very good gameplay. Much better than i can do. :-)
Is this an updated version of the game? Because I noticed some changes wirh the version I'm playing: this has bright colours and good graphics, mine it's a bit darker and it's a bit "pixelated"
@cubex55 Ah I see. I played it on the original playstation a few days ago and even there the sprite-collision is very tolerant in much situations. But i think that speaks for itself what a good game this is. Its a better game than its own sequel on the ps 2. Have a nice day :-)
I have a legit question, for anyone who loves the playstation and its music. How could someone like me,who is not well educated on different file types, extract sound data from a playstation CD? I love 90's style PSX and Saturn music, and i would like to enjoy em a bit more.
+Colton Mask Some of the music tracks will play in a standard CD player. You usually have to skip the first track (data). It depends on how the music tracks are encoded on the disc.
I used to have something called "PSX extractor" (or something like that); used it once, can't even remember on which game (maybe THPS). MrVolksbeetle tip only applies to specific games like Wip3out, where tracks were actually *.wav files played live from CD: the stage was loaded onto the RAM of the console while the laser read the music. Wip3out was truly unbelievable: stunning graphics for the time, high speed racing and mind blowing uncompressed music.
Very excellent game. Wonderful musical scores and a good level of creativity in level designs. All in all I prefer R-Type Final myself, it has some good scores (Though not as many memorable ones as in this game.), and the variety in levels is just a little stronger, though it could have used a little better creativity, but it just has a little more to offer for me personally all in all. Still this game certainly seems like an excellent buy, though if I could I would gladly buy up all the games.
well if you're already heard. Irem as a video game company has ended and reverted back into a slot machine and pachinko company, how they started out back then. They dissolved the video game developing team, in which some of them started a company of their own.
If I play this game, I'm always use the R9. RX looks a bit on a girl-ish side in my taste and R13 suffers from a bad ending. BTW, I love the AgeTec logo in a black background.
you really didnt die not even once?how the hell can you complete this game on hard without dying even once? Thanks for the upload used to play this when i was like 9 or something brings back the memories :D
Remember how stoked I was to rent this at Blockbuster upon it's release. It was too easy! After Super R-Type trying to uphold the standards of the original and Third Strike trying to be different...this was easy. Beautiful for an R-Type fan. But easy.

The difficulty in both game goes from decently challenging and fair to pure fucking cancer toward the end of stage 4 and onward. Still love 'em though

I remeber playing the demo.
it was perfect
This has one of the greatest final levels in a shooter IMO. Amazing stuff
I remember playing this when I was young but could never get much further than level 2 or 3, it was so hard!
same here
I happened the same, it was difficult
This and Einhander were two of my favorite PSX shumups.
what is a shumups?
Einhander very beautiful game and tracks
G Darius was also a good shumup.
What about raystorm and thunderforce?

The soundtrack is ridiculously good in this game!
@@filevans good to know what you eat on a regular basis.
