My brother, cousins and I would play this for hours, sipping Mountain Dew into the early morning back in 1999. So many great features of this game. The pyramid level select track, capturing enemies and using them for power ups, the crazy boss battles, the gorgeous and diverse level settings, and best of all, the outstanding soundtrack. I’m so glad I got to experience this as a child.
I seriously like the climatic laser fire. Its so epic where two powerful beams blast against each other until one gives up. Its so epic and it never gets tiring to see it. And I also love the idea of using enemies as your power ups.
The soundtrack of this game gives me chills. I remember sitting in front of my small TV setup when I was a kid playing this game hours on end with my little brother. Good times.
Yoshiko Tsushima (Genjitsu no Yohane main star cast) also likes all the songs in G Darius especially the intro theme (A.D.A.M by Zuntata). Its now 25½ years old game.
brings back so many fond memories playing this game and many other shooters around that time on Friday nights until early hours of the morning with my brother, will always treasure those memories forever as these games were the start of what is out on current gen today
This was my first side scrolling shooter.Next one was R-Type Delta.I used to play the shit ton out of the game with my cousin.Epic playtimes. Started pretty good in an age no internet existed in my country.
This game is one of my all time favorite Shoot-'em-Ups. First place U.N. Squadron (SNES) , second place G-Darius, third place Axelay, fourth is Steredenn Binary Stars, and fifth being Darius Gaiden. If I had a chance to get a functioning copy of a Darius Gaiden cabinet I would take it, 'tis my favorite arcade shooter alongside 1943: The Battle of Midway.
Finally found this childhood game. What's left is to find that 4 player co-op shoot em up where you have 4 space ships, each one having a different characteristic
2023 here, nearly 7 months after Nijigasaki High School Idol Club NEXT SKY SEASON 3 OVA! 25 years after its initial release for PlayStation One, and G-Darius is still an underrated masterpiece.
Years later, G-Darius HD is released on the Nintendo Switch. Go check it out if you're able to. Either need to buy a Limited Games run of Darius Cozmic Revelation or use some weird workaround to buy a japanese game on the E-Shop. It's gameplay is unchanged, just higher res textures, resolution, and a higher resolution Silver-Hawk model to play as. It's lovely.
I have this game and both of the Japanese soundtracks (original and Future Perfect). Still one of my favorite PSX shooters. One of my favorite shooters period. I love the gameplay and the cold, creepy, and ethereal soundtrack. That synth line in Kimera II around 1:34:50 is so foreboding and eerie. I love the warm analog sounds, industrial samples, and creepy oscillating vocals. One of Zuntata's best soundtracks! The theme between stages 17:20 always gets you psyched for a new stage. Too bad that the merger with Square-Enix has essentially destroyed this once great company and its awesome games.
Zach B It's funny cause I was extremely fortunate to know an arcade operator in Utah who actually got a Dariusburst Another Chronicle machine in his arcade. So I was playing that game well before anyone had even really heard of it! I've gotten quite good at it now, especially with being able to play it again in Chronicle Saviours. Such an awesome game and series! ^.=.^
I love the game immensely and haven't even played more than CS mode. I'm saving the other modes for PC for the dual widescreen. I'm enjoying the portable nature of CS mode on the Vita.
Best part about the PS2 Taito Legends and Memories versions, unlike this one, slowdown isn't rampant. Sure I enjoy the one I have on PS1 as I got it first, but once you play it full speed, slowdown just doesn't cut it anymore.
Also, since the Taito Legends version is a port of the arcade original, it doesn't have loading times and the audio doesn't cut mid stage (which was annoying af)
Used to play this game on mushrooms with my friends as a teen on a cabinet that my dad owned and made himself when they first came about. Had a fuck ton of ROM's, thousands. And this was among my favourite. Music and the abstract art is just so pleasant.
I played with my cousin and we always used double kamehameha beam in order to kill, that was the highlight. Never did we realize that you could beam struggle with the enemy.
The brilliant thing about the series is, as soon as you see that killer whale, the Hyper Greatthing... You get both a sense of hope as well as a sense of dread, as it's the biggest challenge the game has to offer but you get that timeline(?)'s good ending if you win. The sense of fear I felt as soon as I saw it was overwhelming the first time as I had only two lives left!
Epsilon zone is so harsh. You see that thing OBLIBERATE planets with the wave motion gun, then comes absolute defender and is IMUNE to that very weapon. Its also one of the stages showing how DESPERATE people are against those fish like foes.
You can capture them, using your capture balls (resemble of Pokéball), they're be your ally (temporary) turning them into hyper beam special attack move
@bloodreign1 yeah I agree. Slowdown seemed ok at the time but now not so much. It did make the game easier tho as I have 1cc the ps1 version but not the ps2 version taito legends 2 with no slowdown. Not yet anyway.
Guys, I can't find a video game that I have been looking for for more than 17 years. Please help me out. I vaguely remember some details but other details i know for sure (i'll specify on the list below) - 2d top down shoot em up. - Played it on Playstation 1 (i don't know if it was ported or was a port). - (not sure) Japanese (or japanese influenced) game. - (not sure) Sprite based. - The distinguishing feature of the game is that you have different kinds of bullets that you acquire throughout the game. You can switch between them on the fly. Every bullit kind has a powered up version except the starter bullet type. And at some point of the game (and that blew my mind at the time) you actually acquire the powered up version of the starter bullet type. - (not sure) Each boss is weak to the powered up version of each bullet type. PLEASE HELP ME FIND THIS!!!

@@YamashitaTsubasayep. Einhander much like Gradius Gaiden, is considered to be a forgotten masterpiece by many who played this game.

This and the Rayforce serie on Steam as well
The Ray series is also on Android
This game surely would be played a lot on a Taito Darius and Raystorm/Rayforce compilation.
