Sealab 2020: The Complete Series

- "This is the year two thousand and twenty. The place is the Challenger Sea Mount, the top of an underwater mountain, a complex beneath the sea. Two hundred and fifty men, women and children live here. Each of them, a scientist pioneer. For this is our last frontier, a hostile environment which may hold the key to tomorrow. Each day, these oceanauts meet new challenges as they build their city beneath the sea. This is Sealab 2020." With these words setting the stage, and some funky bass riffs setting the tone, Saturday morning TV took the 70s underwater Sci Fi adventure plunge. Ably overseen by Hanna-Barbera's ace action animators and voiced by a superb cast (including John Stephenson, Ross Martin, Jerry Dexter and Ann Jillian), the oceanauts of Sealab face seaquakes, sharks and falling satellites while finding the time to serve up lessons on environmentalism, tolerance, and teamwork across this 2-Disc, 13-Episode Collection.
The year before Murphy and everyone else went insane...
Happy Cake Oven going missing, orphans pissing in his bed. Who wouldn't go insane by that.
It's Sealab 2020 day, exactly 48 years after the first episode aired.
People from the 1970s trying to imagine what our present day would be like, little did they know how stupid and insane we would become....😔
The Seventies weren't that great either.
@@RicoImp3 better than this bullshit time

Sealab 2021 predicted the future.
Sad how the parody Sealab 2021 was more indicative of the future culture than the original show.
especially because of democrats
Well, it had the advantage of being closer to 2020-21
@@FloridaMan69. what's it got to do with democrats?
Because it's a hilarious meme of a show lol
@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 its also a really good show which is funny because it was basically just one of those abridged series you see on youtube.
They built the lab to isolate from COVID, now I get it...
hahah
Great show. This vision was more advanced than the slow progress humans have had exploring oceans and outerspace too.
Ah, I would have loved for this to be a reality.
A 2020 where the ocean isn't full of pollution and garbage...
...so you've never actually been in the ocean then, you should.
The ocean was well polluted when this came out
Worry slightly less about the ocean and more about your local freshwater ecosystems. Most of them eventually lead to the ocean and almost all of them are already mildly polluted and under immediate threat from agriculture or industry.
We could definitely build Sealab today. There are no real technological hurdles to it any more. Just no one wants to spend the billions of dollars it would take to do it, for what would likely be minuscule material and scientific returns.
I mean thats entirely speculative but i think the simpler reason is who the hell wants to risk living in a pressurized research outpost far underwater where help will take forever to get to
Lets put all the jerks in pod 6. Pod 6 is jerks.
i think it's just funny so i'd do it
Watched this as a kid with my cousins many years back. It’s a prophetic cartoon I guess.
Crazy to think that 2020 is NEXT YEAR and we aren't even close to having underwater bases like this yet. The future has been a hell of a lot different than everyone expected.
That's Science Fiction to you guys.
Probably more related to the lack of a need to build bases underwater.
But we have phones that can schedule appointments for us using AI.
Well, there actually *are* real Sealabs. They look nothing like this, though. They're basically just stationary submarines.
Its aboutta be 2025 bro
SeaLab: the one last refuge from Covid-19
What’s Covid again?
Not as "edgy" as Sealab 2021, but still nice.
that's because it was actually a children's show
If it wasn’t for Sealable 2021, this show would’ve been forgotten.
I'm 62 yrs old . I remember Sealab 2020 . It was the beginning of a really good new age of animation programs for children . Enough of the repetitive cartoons of the 50's and 60's and ridiculous talking animals . I remember TV guide magazine carrying the story about Sealab 2020 when it first aired and the plans of Hanna / Barbara animated producers and a new generation of childrens animated programs .
I never forgot Sealab 2020 because it was one of my favorites when I was younger.
@@johnh1001 Watch Sealab 2021. Great new humerous episodes + probably the best theme sonh
@@johnh1001 🤡🤓🫥
How many came over here because it's already 2020?
(And you wanna see if all the tech they're showing here already exist today, especially the part that they can talk underwater ;-) )
2020 sucks, need to get to 2021
Will we have a sealab
HAHAHAAHAAHHAHAAH
When you're looking for me.
Man, next year should be awesome....
This show may have been extremely cheesy, but it _does_ admittedly teach some pretty interesting facts about marine life. If anything, the first episode of this show actually taught me about decompression sickness, also known as "the bends".
If you want to know a great way to see both the bends and high pressure nervous syndrome, I suggest you watch the Abyss. The former show's what happens during a scuba accident as well as alternatives to tank breathing called liquid breathing. It's exactly what it sounds like. They even used a live rat to show how it works. For the latter, a naval officer overseeing the operation they were using wasn't properly cleared, so they didn't know he was going nuts from that until t was almost too late. Didn't help that they were dealing with underwater aliens that hate nukes.
@@Shanethefilmmaker I'll look that up.
@@Shanethefilmmaker _The Abyss_ looks cool. 😎 I might check it out at some point.
@@Shanethefilmmaker I was referring more to _Sealab 2021_ show actually
Good to see the original
I love how there's a ripple transition to a scene using the same background. :)
That's to cover a plane change in animation cels under the film camera. Pre-digital. All those effects were drawn with pens and placed under lights and shot on a motion picture film. A very different set of technical creativity was needed then and is now lost to history.
Yes, I'm aware. :)
"I'm as smart as him."
"What? I have PHDs in four scientific disciplines."
"Really?"
"Why do you think they call me 'Dr. Quinn'?"
"I just thought that was a nickname. You know, like 'Dr. Dre'. East si-ide!"
Sealab 2020 was short lived
According to the video title, the whole series is 2:42 long and over half of it was the theme song.
Sealab 2021 lasted for 4 seasons
Just re-watched the first episode on this, a Saturday morning. I really liked this show when I was a kid. It, along with Flipper, made the life of an oceanaut seem so exciting. In fact, 1972 was the first memorable year for Saturday morning cartoons for me. There was The Amazing Chan and the Chan Clan, ABC Saturday Superstar Movie (with the memorably bad Lost in Space ripoff), Josie and the Pussycats in Outer Space and Sealab. 2020 seemed so far away at the time. But almost five decades have simply flown by. Messed up in my memories, though. I thought for all these years that Sealab was on ABC sometime early, maybe 9 a.m. Turns out it was on NBC at 11. Made the mistake of watching one episode of Sealab 2021 on Adult Swim. What an atrocity.
Awww, you didn't like 2021? That was my jam back in the day ):
To each their own. At least we both grew up with that awesome underwater research station and all the cool tech.
Sea Lab 2020 was one of my favorite shows back then because I was living in Florida and really into snorkeling and the ocean.
Holy fuck i havent thought of the chan clan in almost 20 years and im heardly older then that also dont hate on 2021 too much its just a silly parody using existing assets and the animators went on to make aqua teen one of the best shows on as ever
I like Sealab 2020 best a year later... and on Adult Swim
Watching these 2020
Cause that is where you'll find me. ;)
We made it, but sadly, no Sealab as of yet!
happy new year
The Actual 2020: No Sealab.
Hello from 2020👋🏾
I like the original Sealab 2020 better than the spin-off
I agree, I just watched a couple of minutes of the spin-off and it was amusing for about 2 minutes before it got really tedious.
If this is really set in 2020 how come none of these characters have caught the Corona Virus?
well, 1/2 century ago when this was made people weren’t first have sex with, and then eating bats.
@@jma00a1 Pretty sure the further you go back the weirder it gets my dood
No better quarantine than a sealed environment miles away from any other human habitations
Because they were under the sea and didn't allow anyone to spread it to the Sealab.
It's 2020, why is no one running this show on TV??
I remember watching this show for real.
so this was the origin of Sealab 2021?
Loved this intro
This is kinda like the "Horizon" ride at EPCOT
2021 is the result of them realizing there stuck and going crazy cuz of covid
If only they knew what 2020 would truly bring. It just proves that when this was made the future was already in place. We were just unable to see it.
I guess they're all sort of in quarantine down there.
No better social distancing than in a bubble under the sea. Scarily prescient...
This is why modern sci-fi don't use dates anymore
You can't tell whether the future depicted is near or distant
It makes sense. Under the sea is the only place covid can't spread.
It’s amazing how much technology has regressed in only three years
Score is dope
We're killing everything now! 😞
I never realized how much of early Adult Swim’s humor relied on Hannah Barbara parodies
Corona Sealab 2020 & 2021 😱 😂
To think we had underwater cities 4 years ago!
I wouldn't mind being in this 2020.
These guys look like their onto something. Would be a shame if they all went crazy from isolation a year later.
Sealab 2020: A group of brilliant scientists who built a city underwater and study aquatic life while they live.
Sealab 2021: *A group of hilarious dumbasses who waste their life goofing off*
I hope those guys weren't from Pod 6. I freakin' hate Pod 6.
The music's great and stories were fun. No cities beneath the sea yet.
But there's a hotel or a Honeymoon suite underwater (and it's not a Holiday Inn 😄)
2021 had some godly episodes like Bizzarro (Watch it)
It's 2023 so where's the damn Sealab?
underneath the water
This Show always Reminded me of BioShock
I like the term Aquanaut better then Oceanaut
Yeah they were WAY off on that year.
Why didn't they include episodes 14 & 15? They didn't get aired but I don't see anything saying they weren't made.
They may of been turned into episodes for Sealab 2021
There was a cartoon where a nan was blasting underwater, and didn';t listen to reason, and one of the oceanuts said tell him to return with talk gear, and he did, but he still didn't listen to them, and asa result got hurt
No sealab, why tho
There are actual sealabs now
2020 blows
it's only 2020. with no Sealab.
Why haven’t they created a motion picture yet

Had to go underwater to survive the Trump Virus
Well you're going to have to go to outer space to survive the Biden virus.
If it's 2020, why are they not wearing masks?
Because they're under the ocean and not on the surface where the virus is spreading
Scuba Gears might be better protection.
