Very high quality and original content, excellent presentation style. You have absolutely earned my subscription and I cannot wait to see the growth in this channel that I’m sure is soon to come.
Sincerely... it is comments like these that motivate me with each and every video. Thank you soooo much for the kind and inspiring words! This community we are building amazes me every day.
But did you watch it with quality headphones? Next level....
I think Baba Yaga is an ancient remnant of a prehistoric Deity. She's the malevolent side of motherhood and the dark Earth (related to/ or similar to the Indian goddess Kali). And probably played a bigger role in the lives of proto Indoeuropeans.
She was probably a revenant or vengeful goddess. And probably had multiple faces.
There would certainly be precedent for that. If you look at the way the Church incorporated bits of existing faiths into their teachings in places like Ireland (in the 3rd and 4th century C.E.)and Mexico (16th and 17th century). Not to mention the way they used the Norse people's own beliefs to convince many of them that Ragnarok had already happened and now it was time to embrace the new god (early to mid medieval period).
I could see a nature goddess slowly getting reframed as a witch who should be avoided and feared. Would also explain why occasionally she had benign qualities and was even sometimes helpful..
Cool idea if nothing else 👍
I have a long running, multi campaign hag character that constantly shows up and "helps" the parties.
It's so cool, that u had 500 Subs at this point and now 24,7k.. im so happy for u
Well if it was not for your first 500, I would never be at almost 25k and growing... and I simply cannot thank and the other 499 enough.
That said, I have not forgotten about you first 500... and while my list is not complete, I have many of you noted and I will have an announcement later this month on a token of my appreciation you won't want to miss, so keep an eye out for that!
If anyone is looking for more hag content/ideas I'd really recommend the 2e Van Richten's Guide to Hags. It has a lot of cool ideas for using hags in darker, more Gothic style campaigns.
It was made for Ravenloft (real old school Ravenloft so it WILL include some darker content, just FYI) but it could be used for all sorts of campaigns, as long as the group is ok with some horror elements.
Its got some game mechanics but a lot of it is roleplaying and thematic info. Honestly the 2E Van Richten's guides were all pretty good.
Van Richten supplements were incredible. Best of DnD history ever.
Awesome video. Just found your videos and working my way through. Hags would have to be my favourite villains.
Great story. The Blood hag reminds me of a story I once read online.
A meeting of a familiar face in a town, a gift to said friendly lady, and finally...
the twist: The faceless remains of the lady found in her own house.
A successful deception that serves as an introduction to an evil force.
Very nice! If you want the mother of all hag stories... check out the recent video i did on "5 Things You May Not Know About The Nine Hells" :)
Thanks for watching and the kind words, really appreciated!
Maybe a wizard sage where the party gets their potions in between adventures.
You keep receiving this message, but only when in town, via whispering wind.... "Bomarc, I'm in trouble. Meet me in my shop, the Tiny Tincture Supply." Every night, one hour before low noon. But only while in town.... You get there but she doesn't recognize you. And she should. You've shared more than just sales.
Let's not forget Hags are finds of Hades and can ought to have all the Feindish powers to summon other lesser finds, certain resistances bonuses and other traits of feindom, etc. I suspect we who roll 2e are inclined to take that as writ, but maybe what's writ has been re written in new versions.
Players to hags in DnD: oh we can beat that easy
Lore and a lvl 20 character: i do not want or intend to go anywhere near that thing or it's forest ever.
Auntie Ethel brought me here and now I am trapped forever. oh god please help. can anyone hear me? Ple s h
Great and useful video, thanks for making it!.
I've always been partial to Death knights, that's my vote
Oh that is an EXCELLLENT suggestion! Consider it in the queue and thanks for listening!
hags are just the worst ever, which is why i always try to throw them at the party, BG3 nailed the green hag
Yeah the game and Ethel actually got me into D&D. She is a great character. I had no idea she was a hag at first. Not until I saw her trying to force feed Mayrena treacle pie lol.
Ok I’d never heard of the Blood Hag… now… how to use her… muhahahahahaha!!!
Oh and a good history lesson on some ways to bring horror into our games would be great. I’d enjoy to see your thoughts.
Thats a GREAT idea...
The short answer is that you talk about it in the session zero... but more to your point, this would be a great subject to cover... and i will! thank you.
@@RichesandLiches I have GM’d with my group for 5-6 years, and while one doesn’t like Call of Cthulhu, he is more than happy to have been cursed with Armor that looked way too good to be true.
Sometime players don’t like mechanics (I.e. sanity from Co) as it’s a grindstone making their beloved characters wither away instead of getting stronger with each level. They want to be superheroes. But if you don’t use it, or use a mechanic like corruption similar to what Matt Mercer has done (where spending time near evil or unholy places or things they have to make a saving throw against corruption which gets harder the more corruption You have and your proximity to it, and recedes as you get away from the evil). I found it online looking for corruption rules.
P.s. the armor my PC is wearing starts awesome, and then slowly becomes the bane of his existence but he can’t tell as he’s cursed to never want it out of his sight. 😬
I aspire to have my players enjoy my descriptions as much as I enjoy yours.
I don't know why but I can totally see Karens being Urban Hags.
Hey, that's funny. I live at the center of a depraved grove too!
Just a fantastic video. Keep them coming please.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
I worry sometimes that my community will see all the kind words/comments and think that they have nothing to add so they do not provide feedback (good or bad) but I promise you that i read and TRY to respond to every single comment and kind words like these are like water... you need it everyday to ensure you are on the right track and to course correct when you are not...
SO THANK YOU... it truly means so much to see the feedback!
Loved bg3 take on this
Great video as always! I've got some ideas to use for my COS campaign from this for sure!
Such good work
Baba Yaga is not just Russian, but Slavic.
Thanks for the clarification... I researched it quite a bit and saw both Russian and Slavic. Appreciate you taking the time to point this out.
Russians are part of the Slavic civilization/cultures.
Since both have a common origin it's likely the myth is older than both and is a hand me down from people who came before.
@@ekstat1cproto slavic or maybe even Proto Indo European tbf, other cultures have similar stories with less prominence
I do enjoy Slavic tales like baba yaga and corche the deathless.
Y’all come hard! Digging it
This is just so so good.
"Blood hag" for your adults only games.
You're not wrong... :)
Thanks for listening and commenting.
Hags love children too..... 😈
Requesting a video on Cryonax! Great video as always.
Oh wow... what a great suggestion from the Forgotten Realms... he was not even on my backlog list, a definitely omission on my part. I love Cryonax and the Arctic setting so consider this one in the near term queue!
Thanks for the GREAT suggestion!
The red hag is obviously based on this classic sci-fi pulp story en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shambleau
Your awesome. I love your videos!
Thank you so much!
Once again, excellent -
So appreciative of your time to listen and comment. Any ideas on what you would like to see next lore or otherwise?
@@RichesandLiches Well, everything I have thought about suggesting is stuff I plan on using already. What I liked about the hag video in particular was that it inspired me to use one in an area I was planning on developing for my group. So I would rather be surprised :)
They go as far as back as the gods like the three the old lady but the lady in her prime and the young one the spell weavers using one eye for that benefit and know the future from The Iliad they helped many demi- warriors before like Jason or Theseus or Hercules
I got Tome of Beasts it is a real good dnd pdf.
How awesome im the 1000th like so cool!
Aye did the red caps ever get a video?
wow
If that is a good wow... then thank you! and if its a bad wow... then my humblest of apologies... either way, thank you for watching and commenting!

um. do you know what the phrase "eat a peach" means? *L
I do... was trying to be humorous more than provacative... but the Blood Hags "Face Peel" did remind me of the movie and the line so.... :)
Amazing video as always, keep up the great work!
Thanks so much for the kind words and taking the time to listen and comment!
