Most concise video on the subject I’ve seen! Thanks for being clear and to the point 😊
Thank you!! I have a 3 way switch in my home, with other things on the circuit. It was driving me nuts! Watched this video, fixed in 2 minutes! Thanks a million billion trillion quadrillion!
This is the most informative 1:23 video I've ever watched. I've always wondered how the power is supplied to the other switch when the supply switch is in the down position. It's a constant power. All the switch does is change the power from pole to pole. Now it all makes sense of why I got shocked once dealing with a 3-way switch. Someone installed a 3-way switch in place of a normal 2-pole switch. The ground wire was connected to the left pole. The ground for that circut was electrified.
So why didn't the circuit short to ground when the switch was flipped? Just curious.
@@maedie1 hmmmm, you're right, it should have, but it didn't. I didn't own the place long enough to look more into it. When I changed the switch to a 2-pole, everything was good. Two months after I sold the place, it was destroyed by a hurricane.
This is the one that helped me understand it, thank you!
Thank-you! If you liked this one, you'll LOVE this one with more detail. ua-cam.com/video/xBEi_fYDMJw/v-deo.html
Kind of the best video on the subject. Disneyesque simplicity and clarity and visual aid.
Best description and animation of how it works
Thanks for the comment! Have you seen the full version? ua-cam.com/video/xBEi_fYDMJw/v-deo.htmlsi=wBcdzOZZSQhAP01T
Extremely helpful, thank you!!!
Very well explained, thank you
Awesome video. Thank you.
Loved this video, thank you.
Excellent video
love videos like this
Thank you for sharing
Hi. Thanks for the instructional and I thought it was very good. I wonder if you have a video showing the inner mechanisms of 3 way and/or 4 way switches, which shows exactly how flipping the lever can connect and disconnect the juxtaposing travelers and commons. Have not found such a video yet. Thanks again.
its still so confusing
It's funny bc to me it's so clear when I watch these videos or get these lessons in class. As soon as I have to run the wires out on a rough it's like my brain shuts off or scrambles or something. The only way I can do this is by drawing a diagram on site.
Go get your husband to take care of your confusion
@@thelostviking225me too lol.
@elyzium i agree
Do what do you do with the extra wires?
There are no defined NO or NC terminals like you would find on a spdt relay, or temperature switch, or pressure switch. The current path depends entirely on the relative positions of the two switches.
You an 1141 or what
what simulator did you use?
The trick is that these aren’t normal “on-off” switches, basically they break one circuit and energize another one (power is always flowing through part of the switch) whenever they are flipped. Rather than a single pole single throw switch that just breaks or energizes a circuit.
Got it.
