Nick Spencers Spider-Man may have gotten a bit convoluted at the end, but as a whole it remains a VERY enjoyable reprieve amidst two horrible decades. Despite obvious editorial interference he still made the best of it.
I agree
I really liked Spencer's run, he cleaned up a lot the mess he'd inherited by Slott's mishaps (rich Peter Parker, the whole bs with OMD), and made some very great emotional scenes that gave a lot of depht to the main characters. It was beautiful.
Now this same formula is necesary to clean up the trainwreck that is Zeb Wells' run.
Yeah I agree
I’d say his run falls off after issue 60. The main reason wasn’t that he couldn’t write original stories, but instead that the editorial was such a road block and wouldn’t let Spencer tell the story he actually wanted. It’s clear that the run was building up to Spencer undoing One More Day, but then in the last 14 issues it just goes off the rails and instead of OMD being retconned, it was sins past. I’m glad he retconned SP but he was clearly going for OMD but editorial just messed with him so much and he probably left the book before he wanted to
Which maybe that Spider-Man should have tag along with the Avengers in Jason Arron’s run
I think Sins Past it's a lot worse than One More Day, at least OMD was something that has an easy fix
@@cahe6161 OMD is something that is more necessary to fix though. It’s been plaguing the comics for 16 years. It’s an easy fix yet marvel for some reason won’t fix it
It been speculated that Nick was actually kicked off the book after the "Last Remains" arc, and someone else ghost wrote the rest. The biggest hint at this was the Zeb Wells and his team was workshopping the Beyond arc around that time. Whoever wrote the ending used Nick's notes so they could still use his name when finishing the run. Because I believe Nick was trying to fix Sin's Past and bring OMD to light for the characters. I truly hate the editors' pride
First time I’ve heard of this, that’s quite sinister really, damn
It is really hard to know what is the writer's decisions and what is the Editior's. Which is why I try not to be too harsh on comic's writers even if I disagree. It's just hard to know who to praise and who to blame sometimes
I will say that the first 60 issues of Nick Spencer's run were some of the best modern Spider-Man stories I've ever read. They were fun, thought-provoking, and it wasn't afraid to be a bit dark. Great stuff.
Nick spencer was the last spider-man I read after that I was officially done with spider-man comics.
Hey LewisFilms I Enjoyed Watching Your Videos & I Gotta Say You're Amazing!😊
I feel the biggest problem with Nick Spencer’s run is it spends way too much time retconning previous story (you didn’t even mention Kraven’s arc) and it’s own stories are too very strong either
Yeah, he could've just ignored One more day, sins past and grim hunt. "Retconing" them is just repeating the same mistakes again. If Spencer's run was supposed to be a good on ramp for new readers it utterly faid at that because of this stuff.
I loved Nick Spencer’s run in the beginning. It felt like a breath of fresh air at the time but then as it went on, a lot of decisions were made that were…interesting to say the least
I agree
@@LewisFilmsProductions but at least the art was consistently good throughout. Also big fan of the channel!!
My two favorite Spider-Man content creators collabing let’s goo 🙏🏻
Well you forgot to mention that when they trapped Kindred for a while when it was Harry, Peter did called out that Norman wasn’t his father figure.
hi great video
His biggest issue is not letting go of the wrong doings of the past. He keep trying to redo things instead if just taking them and moving on. Also the whole harry thing could have been good in theory, but in execution it feel apart. But I don't think spidey will be good agian unless they just do more episodic adventures, which might not even work, or what most likely would work is editorial finally letting Peter grow, get married agian and have a kid
I liked that way of him going about things at first, but when he tried to do his own thing it fell flat
Spencer’s run could’ve been great if editorial didn’t botch that ending
Editorial always ruining it
Honestly loved Nick Spencer's run on Amazing Spider-Man. I really do feel like he's the last writer that really understood the character and what readers wanted for the character. And then Zebb Wells happened...
Based on past comments and the fact that the end of Spencer's run was actually "co-writing", it seems like Spencer got removed near the end of the run, likely because he was trying to retcon One More Day and editorial wouldn't have it... it seems less like Zeb Wells wants to write this and more like editorial has a gun to his head forcing him to write this for his job.
I loved Spencer’s run and was so on board with Kindred such a cool and creepy design… and then the identity reveal was so dumb, should have been an original character. Modern comics are so allergic to creating new villains sometimes it’s grating.
You know who didn't have issue? Slott.
The main problem with this run is that it only wanted to fix old stories not to tell its new different ones
Which comics is the pages in 7:26 and 8:06 from?
I love comics
Love how people miss Spencer as the current mess that is done by zeb.
My only problem with this run of Spider-Man specifically is that they didn't really do much. That didn't inspire, like holy crap this is happening, or this is awesome.
It was literally just undoing one of the worst Spiderman stories, Which was good because I didn't like sins past, And explaining why one more day even happened in the first place and that was aright, and beyond arc the more I remember it the less I wanna read Nick Spencer's run
Its sad how this run ended, now this made me think, did the comics ever touch on the subject of Peter's sister, because i never knew if they revealed if she was his sister or not, i just remember seeing somewhere that she had turned into a superhero too. did his run touch this?
So do should I read Dan's slott's run before Spencers?
I personally liked nick spencer Amazing Spider-Man run it was really awesome and one of the best Spider-Man run we had in a very long time, and plus we finally got Peter parker and Mary jane getting back together was freaking fantastic and we were this close to retcon one more day out of existence which would've been amazing in my opinion, also I was so hoping really hoping by the end of this run we were going to finally see my girl mayday parker spider-girl finally kick Mephisto ass which was promised at the end of this amazing run which would've been really awesome and tons of fun, but nope instead of getting any of that we instead threw all that away for marvel horrible story by zeb wells which ruined everything for garbage that nobody likes myself included which isn't fair because a lot of people myself included want Peter parker and Mary jane to remember everything and have them remember there daughter mayday parker spider-girl alive and kicking in the mainstream marvel universe which would've been freaking fantastic in my opinion. The point is in general I hate that marvel comics keeps treating us Spider-Man fans like garbage and just let us Spider-Man be happy because damn it I want Peter parker and Mary jane to have there marriage and have there daughter mayday parker spider-girl alive and kicking in the mainstream marvel universe which would've been really awesome and tons of fun at least in my opinion.
One word to describe Nick Spencer, balls.
Nahhhh
@@LewisFilmsProductions I'd say for trying to undo OMD.
Ballin
I wish I had picked u this run when I had the chance. I feel like I missed out.
And I think Spencer wasn’t really allowed to maybe because of editorial. The Kindred stuff felt like Lowe or whoever was pulling strings to drag it out and wearing out Spencer.
I always thought that Kindred would have been revealed to have been the lost soul of Peter Parker and MJ’s daughter that was revealed at the very end of One More Day, brought back by powers of Mephisto.
Obviously, this didn’t happen.
The real tragedy of Peter Parker is the fact that he HAS to be struggling in his life and barely keeping his head above water in order for him to continue to entertain the audience that sustains his very existence.
huh?
One of my problems with spenncer's run is that tried to course correct things he could have easily just ignored. Why rehash these unpopular stories. For example, why drag Kraven back again just to talk about how how bringing him back was a bad idea? Instead of actually doing something new or interesting he just kept referencing, don't get me started on Kindred, yikes.
Too bad his run really didn't retcon sins past or sins remembered because Zeb Wells run right back up Norman's obsession with Gwen Stacy and even in his solo run it was brought up again So let's be honest Gwen Stacy and Norman Osborne has kids whether the fans like it or not they have children and trust me those kids are going to come back again when they need to shock and surprise somebody and be like oh look Gwen and Norman's children because what Nick Spencer did made absolutely no logical sense how can a dead woman and the father of Peter's best friend have clones that doesn't make any logical sense but they have the DNA of both Wednesday see and Norman Osbourne they're their kids I just don't understand how people don't understand what clones are clones isn't you taking a piece of DNA and mixing it with somebody else and saying that's a clone no that's your offspring at that point trust me those kids are still around Gwen and Norman's obsession with each other is still there cuz it was touched upon a little bit in Zeb Wells run and it was touched upon in the Golden Goblin run and when they did that Gwen Stacy solo run she had a secret little crush with Norman Osborne and the jackal has an obsession with her I just think that people need to understand that Gwen Stacy has a little bit of attraction to older men and there's nothing wrong with that but stop acting like she's this perfect character and that she can't have a flaw her flaw is that she made a mistake and she slept with Spider-Man's greatest villain without knowing and that's what led her death. Definitely I will say the Kendrick storyline was the downfall for the Nick Spencer run because you're fixing everything that was wrong with Spider-Man but then you're going to have a character that was like hey the reason why life is going bad is because it's Peter's fault and everything that Peter has done to everybody else is the reason why things are going wrong and we have to teach him a lesson it was like well if that's the case we might as well just kept doing slot on the stories instead what he should have did is he should have came up with the villain that could challenge you know Peter's I don't know maybe his morality his balance of his superhero and his personal life maybe that could have been something you know maybe a villain that has ties to like married Mary Jane where she's a model and she's a movie star or whatever and the villain could be using her to get to Peter because he knows that Peter is Spider-Man You know something like that that would have been way better than Oh we're going to try to retcon sins past and sins remember every time they quote unquote try to wreck on it it comes back and slap us in the face so we know that Gwen and Norman's children are coming back
I think it's very possible to retcon the retcon of Sins Past and make it plausibly canon again, all we have is the world of a devil-operated Harry Osborn A.I Supercomputer telling Norman, and not Peter, that Gwen would never make out with him. In fiction this is called an unreliable narrator trope.
Nick Spencer's run was a glass of tap water in an oasis... Reasonably enjoyable but VERY fortunate not to have come out in the context of various Spiderman comics from the 70s to 2000 or the first 80 or so issues of the original Ultimate Spiderman.
Tired of status quo. Not letting characters progress and change is what holds American comics back
hacks with no talent for storytelling is the problem. They like dated cornball stuff and easy cliches.
4:00 Sorry but NO. I DESPISE Spidey status quo with a PASSION. And it was this GARBAGE right here from some convuluted bs plaigarism machine they pulled outta their A$$ that made me drop this run
Peter is smarter than Otto in EVERY WAY and Otto stole HIS body and essentially KILLED the man. Most fans werent upset he took the credit...the were upset cause Peter was rich now...which is still a stupid reason but whatever
I tried to like Nick Spencers run but I just couldnt cause he REGRESSED EVERY. SINGLE. CHARACTER. For that crappy "Sinister War". From nerfing the hell out of Spidey cause most of his villains are FODDER but someone he gets caught by a KNIFE. And the other Spider people are nerfed as well to bringing Sineater back with a MYSTICAL. SIN. SHOTGUN....I have no words for that🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️...to take away Norman's sins which is incredibly UNEARNED
The only thing I liked about this run was MJ and the art. Thats it
Why Marvel hates Peter Parker so much?
he's become a throwaway character that's used to build up copycat spiders
Who is Nick Spencer??
Watch the video
@@my2randomcents I'm busy
Write of the previous run of Spider-Man, undoing a lot of the things that the run previous to him did, and he begun to.undo one more day till the editorial begun to interfere and the story begun to be convoluted, also by Wikipedia info:Nick Spencer is a comic book writer and former politician best known for his Image series Morning Glories, his collaborations with artist Steve Lieber on the comedic series Superior Foes of Spider-Man and The Fix, a three-year run on Marvel's The Amazing Spider-Man, as well as his controversial[1][2][3] Captain America storyline that began with Captain America: Sam Wilson, continued with Captain America: Steve Rogers, and culminated in the 2017 company-wide crossover "Secret Empire".
