As much as SARB033 is a brilliant watch, PR100 COSC Automatic wins. Its COSC certification, Powermatic movement with 80hr power reserve, and Swiss build quality at a cheaper price (especially due to SARB's inflated price) are too significant to ignore. Swiss build quality... with stamped clasp? and rattling bracelet? Knowing global corporations, I bet you about 40% of that watch was made in China. lol

Spot on with this comparison! I have both of these watches and knew exactly where you were going with each of your ratings. The difference with my Tissot is that I have the silver face version which I think makes it a little less plain, or at least doesn't advertise the plainness.
COSC certified under $300 is a rare find. One cannot expect that. I bought both of the SARB’ds in this video (and a few more), but sold them all. Good watches, all of them.
Very well done, Jody. I own the SARB033 and love it passionately. I do not have a Tissot, but am intrigued by the value and specs at this price. Thia is truly a situation where you win either way.
Bought a sarb033 with a bad movement in it. Lost more then 10 minutes every 2 hours. Had to return it and never bought another since the price flew up. Pretty happy with my Seiko 5 snzg13 as it only gains about 0.5 second a day. Been wearing it everyday for the last 2 years and still love it.
Let me start by saying I am a big fan of SEIKO. I own an SKX007, a Monster, 2 Turtles, 2 Samurais, a Sumo, a solar PADI, and a Velatura Yacht Timer. I owned a SARB for a short period and sold it. I own 1 Tissot PR-100 with the PowerMatic 80 COSC movement. I think Tissot has more brand cache than SEIKO in most people's eyes, not that I give a rat's ass what people think of my watches. Most people don't know the difference between quartz and automatic. I think the Tissot, in this case, is a little more dressy and sleeve comfortable than the SARB. The Tissot is a little more "minimalistic" in its design. Some people like that approach. As for lume, no one beats SEIKO. But to my eyes, it was pretty even in the test here. Although the Tissot has much less lume, they disappeared at about the same time. I have to disagree with the bracelet evaluation. The Tissot (at least mine) has no rattle to it and is very solid. I don't really get the dislike of the stamped clasp. Once it is on my wrist, I don't feel it. And we all know that most SEIKOs use stamped clasps, too. Now do an Oceanus review!
Cheers brother, great review....having Swiss made is definitely becoming more and more redundant, yes they are truly amazing pieces on the most part....however when it comes to generic materials the rest of the world is rapidly catching up....great news for us....⌚🏴⌚🏴
The Seiko SARB has a very nice design and the perfect size, but that 6RXX movement is crappy. Seiko 6RXX movements are not very accurate, not to mention not too dependable either. I would rather have a slightly dull looking watch than an unreliable one. So the Tissot for me.
Jody, I have to take issue with your lume scoring because the Seiko wasn't twice as good as the Tissot. It lasted mere seconds longer which would be a few minutes at best. They both went dim at similar rates and I think that while the Seiko had lumed indices, the blue is far prettier than the green. I would have given it to Seiko by a score of 8-6, not 8-4. By your logic, the Swiss Chronomter should have had at least double the score of the Seiko movement but you only gave it a lead of two. I also believe that a Swiss-Made Chronometer is a much bigger X-Factor than anything from Seiko that doesn't begin with "Grand".
Nice comparison. Sarb033 all day, that's my daily driver. I do wish is had anti-reflective coating and knock on wood the movement is going strong. Totally agree on the x-factor with the Sarb.
@@topelzmrzovalnik sorry but when every Seiko I've ever owned has been 15+ seconds fast (seiko 5s and a turtle), I expect better. Maybe you can pay to have it regulated but why don't they just do a better job from the factory? The primary purpose of a watch is to keep time.
@Marcquise White I didnn't say I didn't like them. I've got several, just bought a new one. But Hamilton is the low end of the price range for the Swatch group. Which is why I own Hamiltons and not Omegas.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Jody shouldn't value be double weighted? You always talk about value on the channel. It's one of the most important factors surely.
Me too but I also like the bracelet look more and I feel that was catching my eye more when comparing them. I wonder if they both had a the same leather strap if I’d like the tissot more
I have the SARB033, and love everything about it except for the movement, which runs 7 minutes slow per day. Yes, you read that right. My SKX007 and 173, my NH35s, 4R36s, and my vintage ('72) 7006-8110 run spot on (as do all my ETAs), my 4Hz Seagull-powered Rider (albeit absolute crap winding feel that clicks and crunches every 10 or so winds), Starking 4Hz in-house, etc. Everything runs better than this SARB, so Jody is absolutely correct in warning everyone (my Alpinist 017 runs well though, so it's a bit of a hit and miss game). I'll be attempting to regulate and demagnetize it, but my current example just might just end up in my local classifieds (I'm therefore on the hunt for a pre-owned replacement, that I'll check out thoroughly before purchasing). If anyone has any ideas, send them along.
@@trevorhsu6357 For me it's on one particular SARB033, but I have heard plenty of other horology horror stories. I'd find some of their build quality issues laughable if I weren't slightly OCD, including chapter rings that miraculously line up at the top, but not at the bottom... how is that possible on a circular watch?! I suppose I should be grateful to Seiko for helping me overcome my need for absolute alignment haha
soroush valim I mean I guess but the khaki king is also seen as a everyday watch it's obviously not too dressy but doesn't really matter to me, also why the Swiss vs Japanese comment? Isn't that what Jody is comparing in this video?
This comparison is a perfect example of how better specs on paper don't necessarily translate to a better watch. I've had the SARB035 for one year, and it's such an alluring watch. I have tried on the Tissot PR100 and it didn't speak to me, I find it very dull. I suggest you take a look at Orient Star, great proposition at a similar price point! I have one and quality wise it trumps both of these.
Big fan of your channel Jody but between us & the retailers whose side are you on? The correct pronunciation of 399 is four hundred and 79 is not less than 80.
yeah SARB all day for me mate .. some design elements on that Tissot are just straight gash (?) .. like I want to like that Tissot - but the SARB is what I'd rather rock on my wrist.. Thanks again for all the great content Jody !
The new tissot logo looks like it was made by someone who does their designing with Microsoft word. No matter how nice the tissot watch the logo makes it look no better than a Chinese special. The visodates do look nice with the old logo
That Seiko movement is a stinker in my experience. Jody turned me on to the PR 100 and I bought the COSC quartz version. Yes, the Seiko looks better, but there is elegance in accuracy. Less than $200 for a Tissot is a winner for an office watch.
My own 033 out of the box gives me +3 per day which is no problem, I can assure you there are more good 6r15 movements sold than bad ones, cosc on a quartz is as pointless as tits on a bus, my Casio royale for under £30 will match that and has bags more charm, character and elegance than the Tissot.

Atticus As a Tissot owner, there’s something vanilla about a lot of their styles. Unfortunate really, because often times the movements are build qualities are great values.
Interesting comparison of two fine watches, Jody. Nice job in doing the comparison. I’m wondering if you still have a Tissot Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80 for review? I thought you had previously mentioned that you would be reviewing this watch in the not too distant future. Just curious. Thanks. Ed
Never mind the plastic and lower beat rate, a COSC simply must be a 10/10 movement at this price point. Overall I got to say I prefer the Seiko though. If it was all about specs you’d just get a quartz or a smartwatch. The SARB has so much character - it’s a watch to love - while the Tissot doesn’t really do anything
Tissot all day long. Once I see less than 3 microadjustments I move on. Tissot more versatile and COSC swiss made adds some credence. Finally, if mon-fri watch no reset for Tissot on Monday.
the movement is legit. you only have to watch for 6r15 D --- it needs to have D in the end. it has a new "spron" spring and it doesnt have any issues. i owned it for 2 years now and i dont have any problem. also 6r15 is already a higher market movement , comparable to tissot and it can be regulated ti cosc specs if not better.
@@otobotrecords Seiko is Toyota for sure... they have something of quality for everybody in every price range. But Tissot is more a VW. Not an Audi, but still a VW.
@@johandebondt5749 Dunno about that. From the restricted design language I would agree. But it's nowhere as big as VW as a corporation. The Swatch Group would be VW and Tissot maybe Seat then :)
Tissot is a sponsor of the NBA, I don’t think Seiko is a major sponsor for any sports in the USA. So to the average person, I think Tissot would have more of a luxury image
On that price point I´d decide for the SEIKO anytime..... just love them. What I personally like about ALL of your reviews... they are straight forward, no fuzzing around for "a brand". You chance a Seiko against a Swiss Tissot. That´s a bold task. I like it.... 😉
Hi Jody. I was wondering what your experience was like when comparing the clarity of the sapphire crystal and visibility of the dials on the sarb 033 to the sarb 035. I own the 035 and depending on the light and angle I've found that the crystal can appear a little opaque sometimes. My sarb 017 does a better job in that regard. I wonder if it has to do with the cream dial on the 035 in conjunction with the lack of AR coating. Maybe the warm cream dial doesn't reflect light as clearly as the dials on the 017 or the 033. Just wondering. Cheers!
I agree with all your points. While the Tissot is great I would be happier with a SARB overall. However a big factor for me is the snap back. I had a Tissot Visodate with a snap back and i would’ve kept it if it only had a screw down case back. I’d much rather have a screw down case back and if possible a screw down crown, but the case back is a must. That’s more important to me than a sapphire crystal if they had to cut costs somewhere, so for that main reason I would avoid the Tissot, personally.
Hmmm that X factor Changed the score dramatically.. More preference really. Don't get me wrong I love the SARB But the Tissot has it's own Classy look. I would of given the SARB and 8 and the Tissot a 6. Also the crystal on the Tissot being sapphire should be a 9. Just my thoughts, Both very nice.. And very close! Another great video! Keep them coming 👌🏴
For me, a mechanical movement must be serviceable. For a throwaway design, we’ve had quartz for 50 years (some are very good are serviceable as well). I’d buy one if it had an ETA 2824-2 with it’s usual 38h power reserve.
Tissot is a better brand than Seiko? How many iconic watches has Tissot made? Did James Bond ever wear a Tissot? Was Ripley wearing a Tissot when she defeated the Alien Queen?
Justice was done in the end but I was deeply concerned in the opening third! Thanks for the shoot out, was great fun and informative as always, only thing I'd take you to task on is wear rating for the 033, I know on your original review of the 033 and on Insta comfort has been one of the things you have heavily praised the 033 for what happened since then?
Nice review! There's more than 100 bucks difference between both retail...if Tissot addresses the shortcomings in the vid and upsells by 50 to 70$...surely its a worthy competitor to the seiko.
If only the Tissot had a color matched date wheel and no cyclops. Regardless of anything else, the looks would keep me from buying the Tissot. Having said that, Tissot does make some very nice looking watches.
Funny watching this one year later. You can buy 5 Tissot for the price of 1 seiko. I just can't get over the price of the seiko now, mind boggling. Great review and I'm never selling my sarb
I really liked this comparison. The Powermatic 80 has always been intriguing to me, especially in the Ballade. But I also own a a SARB033 which I think is fantastic. I think it would have been cool to have a Versatility category. Because the SARB is a strap monster and can be paired with tons of different strap options to suit several different occasions. And even looks great on aftermarket bracelets from like Strapcode or Watch Gecko. I’m curious how the Tissot does with different straps, can it easily be dressed up or down, what aftermarket options exist? And how would it fare against Seiko I such a category?

SARB 033 is impressive, but after having too many watches, suddenly i think, Swiss COSC powermatic 80 for a cheap price? I am in!
Good watches, all of them.
the Tissot came alive when you put it on your wrist. And, that's why I think that it should score higher in the X-factor category.
My Seiko SARB033 packed up after a month. Rubbish movement Best avoided
I gave my father a SARB 035 for Christmas and over time it developed some issues as well , but Seiko fixed it for free
Lumes don't look that different. But that nasty clasp fold of Tissot is a real turn down.
Jody, it's a little pricier but the SARX035 solves all the grievances you mentioned with the SARB. You can borrow mine to compare!
The Tissot is great but the SARB is an Icon now.
COSC in that price is quite pros.
cosc means nothing. it just means that the wathc is already regulated.. or you can pay 20 bucks and regulate your seiko and you have the same specs
@@trevorhsu-mdh-5684 i hardly see 50%+ retail price for a factory regulated watch to be worth the price. Id rather pay 50 bucks to my watch repair guy
Tissot. The poor man's Swiss watch. :'D
Hang on, I'm poor. Where's my Tissot?
I thought that go to Swatch sistem51 XD
Don’t forget Wenger
No. Hamilton.
@Marcquise White I didnn't say I didn't like them. I've got several, just bought a new one.
But Hamilton is the low end of the price range for the Swatch group.
Which is why I own Hamiltons and not Omegas.
@Marcquise White I worry about how much MY watches cost, because i'm paying for them.
Couldn't care less what somebody else's watch cost.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Jody shouldn't value be double weighted? You always talk about value on the channel. It's one of the most important factors surely.
I really enjoy these types of vids jody. Nice one mate 👍👍
I appreciate the showdown and all the scores, but to be honest my mind was made up after the first glance at that dial. SARB all the way!
I have a long history of just every Seiko I but being not that accurate. It's starting be a real disappointment
Could you do the khaki king vs the sarb033?
Rafael Diaz ssuuuuch a random comparison, Swiss/American field watch vs Japanese Dress/casual?
soroush valim I mean I guess but the khaki king is also seen as a everyday watch it's obviously not too dressy but doesn't really matter to me, also why the Swiss vs Japanese comment? Isn't that what Jody is comparing in this video?
@@rafaeldiaz7636 if you want to compare the the khaki king to a Seiko it should be sarb017 not 033.
Ivaylo Petrov the alpinist is over $500, also I don’t believe Jody has it but he does have this 033 model which imo are comparable
Ivaylo Petrov the alpinist is over $500, also I don’t believe Jody has it but he does have this 033 model which imo are comparable
Jody, love the dueling reviews 👍🏼
Like you said, we may give different values.
If the Tissot didn't have that cyclops I'd buy it.
Original statement I know. Keep up the great work. Would love to see some Farer watches reviewed.
Ouroboros: There’s a UA-cam touting Orient Star as having a lot of Grand Seiko qualities (for a small fraction of the price of course.)
That Tissot is about as nice as the people who work at the Swiss customs department between Freiburg and Basel.
Hahaha spot on.
Big fan of your channel Jody but between us & the retailers whose side are you on?
The correct pronunciation of 399 is four hundred and 79 is not less than 80.
Is it just me or do Tissot not make one single interesting watch
Not everyone's cup of tea but I love mine .
The PR100 quartz blue dial is interesting as it manages to be unremarkable but somehow a great allrounder.
I have the PRC200 (blue) and I really like it, I find it very interesting. I love my SARB035 more though.
atmospheric Slideshow I love my Tissot black heritage visodate.
What!?! Tissot has super good looking pieces
Watch boxing?
That was more like Tyson against Mr Bean. Good fun as always.
Who is the Tyson and who is the mr bean?
yeah SARB all day for me mate .. some design elements on that Tissot are just straight gash (?) .. like I want to like that Tissot - but the SARB is what I'd rather rock on my wrist..
Thanks again for all the great content Jody !
The new tissot logo looks like it was made by someone who does their designing with Microsoft word. No matter how nice the tissot watch the logo makes it look no better than a Chinese special. The visodates do look nice with the old logo
Hi Jody, Been enjoying these "Death match"/head-to-head videos. Keep mixing them in with your other videos. Cheers, Another Sydneysider :-)
Great video Jody!
That Seiko movement is a stinker in my experience. Jody turned me on to the PR 100 and I bought the COSC quartz version. Yes, the Seiko looks better, but there is elegance in accuracy. Less than $200 for a Tissot is a winner for an office watch.
I got the quartz COSC Tissot for $180 from Jomashop and it's the perfect grab and go watch!
@@kissmylilpiggy Feel better now that you've gotten that off your chest?
@@davidhill3939 I feel neither good nor bad for having an opinion, that it differs from yours doesn't trouble me in the least. Thanks for the reply though as it pointed out a typo that I have now fixed so you haven't completely wasted your time in responding.
@@kissmylilpiggy My sincere apologies. I was being thin-skinned.
Sarb at $400 is silly. You can get Hamilton Khaki king for less, even on a bracelet.
PR100 is dreadfully boring. For me, this isn't a comparison at all, as it's a no-brainer.
Nonetheless, great job Jody!
Thanks. Ed
In hindsight, what would the scores be now?!
Jody - you are the best!
This is why I'm keeping the Sarb033. I wont.even wear it but I adore this piece.
Well done, brilliant comparison.
Tissot all day long. Once I see less than 3 microadjustments I move on. Tissot more versatile and COSC swiss made adds some credence. Finally, if mon-fri watch no reset for Tissot on Monday.
You should do a review/versus with the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80
Hi Jody, I was wondering what your experience with Jomashop is like when shipping to Aus? Thanks
The Seiko movement makes me doubt so much, may be a deal breaker for many...
the movement is legit. you only have to watch for 6r15 D --- it needs to have D in the end. it has a new "spron" spring and it doesnt have any issues.
i owned it for 2 years now and i dont have any problem. also 6r15 is already a higher market movement , comparable to tissot and it can be regulated ti cosc specs if not better.
No way Tissot has more brand recognition than Seiko. Seiko almost killed the swiss industry entirely, and has added way more to horology.
Yeah, he lost me there... If Seiko is Toyota, then Tissot is like Dacia. If Seiko is Sony, then Tissot is Sanyo.
@@TheMattMoy Yeah, because the horological and brand value of international watch brands is measured by their US sports contracts lol.
On that price point I´d decide for the SEIKO anytime..... just love them. What I personally like about ALL of your reviews... they are straight forward, no fuzzing around for "a brand". You chance a Seiko against a Swiss Tissot. That´s a bold task. I like it.... 😉
Odd. The only Tissot PR100 COSC at that store today (Jan '20) is a quartz.
Looks just the same.
Silly that they rate a quartz as “ COSC”. All quartzes are COSC; by their very nature as quartz accuracy is a given!
I just heard of the PR100 now, the SARB is just well-known and well-loved.
Cheers!
Is the product tissot pr 100 in jomashop is legit?
ACE nambawan yes , Jomashop is consider grey market tho
Fantastic video!
You're just so damn likable.
Ahaha, A Watch Death Match!
I'll take the 033 on looks alone, imagine with a Jubi.
Great Show JOMW.
Yeah. Jody really lost the plot there...
Absolutely..Seiko makes so many iconic designs every collector of watches all price range enjoy..
That Sarb look so fancy with black leather strap.
Nice review Jody. Not in love with either but good entry watches. 👍
Nice review! There's more than 100 bucks difference between both retail...if Tissot addresses the shortcomings in the vid and upsells by 50 to 70$...surely its a worthy competitor to the seiko.
Where did you get the clock on the wall
If only the Tissot had a color matched date wheel and no cyclops. Regardless of anything else, the looks would keep me from buying the Tissot. Having said that, Tissot does make some very nice looking watches.
I will take seiko. Because seiko has more detail technology movements and more awesome design. Seiko 🤩
Just asking-fake Rolex on the wall is Ok,but on the wrist is wrong? Thanks
Funny watching this one year later. You can buy 5 Tissot for the price of 1 seiko. I just can't get over the price of the seiko now, mind boggling. Great review and I'm never selling my sarb
The Seiko, hands down.. It looks so much better! The Tissot just looks Macys cheap! It looks cheap
Happy with the winner!
If a watch is out of production, how are they still available brand new with box and papers on ebay one year after?
Just get the PR100 Chronograph, the dial is less bland which elevates it another notch.
