Loved every minute. You need to get a special plate made - like they do on Aston Martin engines - ‘engine hand built by Sreten’ and your signature inscribed - then attach it to the engine for everyone to see - and know they have a quality engine that is assembled like a Swiss watch. We all love your technical ability and know how, but your commentary, video editing and camera angles are worthy of a great producer, director and raconteur all rolled into one. 😊

Hi, loved every second of this part of your project. It took me back to my youth in 1969, I was 19 and decided to upgrade my old Ford Cortina 1300cc. I striped the engine (much simpler than the Alpine), had the block rebored to 1603cc. New pistons, rings, valves, double valve springs. All done in a rented single-vehicle garage where my landlady insisted on having sawdust on the floor. The process saw me use ten litres of oil in an attempt to keep the engine dust free. It worked and she started first time, much to my surprise.

Any bearing manufacturer (Clevite e.g.) will tell you that most replaced engine bearings receive some damage from contamination that was left behind during assembly. That contamination can be measured in MICRONS, and the only way to prevent such damage is to be scrupulously clean during assembly!

not needed as he used thick assy. graphite lube. just crank with no ign till pressure is up, then connect ign. and fire. Done it hundreds of times on high power race engines with no issue. Proper engine builders use graphite heavy thickness lube for this reason (also long term storage of race engines). Regular Oil or assembly oil (slightly thicker) just runs down into the sump and is lost within a few days and offers mediocre protection. You can also setup some motorsport ecu's to crank an engine over with no ign. and finally fire when pressure is up to assure a solid oil film has built up b4 she sings. Did Streten lube the piston gudgeon pin? I use an oil spray pot to ensure the oil is fired into parts that need oiling and make sure it gets into all the gaps, a brush just introduces the chance of foreign particles to make their way into delicate parts. Kind regards from an engineer retired in Spain.

Watching the second time in less than 8 hours. Having worked in theatre with surgeons, I observe similar traits in how you do your build...highest respect for how clinical your work is, and attention to detail is nothing but inspiring! Entertaining too, lady's bag in the workshop 🤣!

When I was a kid my dad and I used to attend drag races, and the highlight of the day was watching the Top Fuel teams rebuild their engines after a run, and then start them, make a few checks, and down the track they went at 300mph with a fresh rebuild. Awesome.
Sreten, your video just gave me that same enjoyment, and reminded me of the good times I spent as a boy with my dad. Thank you.

Absolutely magnificent job. Did you consider doing an intro like 80’s shows smiling in the canera while tightenkng bolts and spinning neon letters for the title etc.. would be fabulous. 😃

One of the best episodes and a great addition to the channel. I also would like to see a tag on the engine stating "Hand re-built by sreten". I'm pretty sure it'll run better than when it came out of factory. Almost sad to see the end of this episode. The long night begins, again!

Finished watching and loved every second. It’s just fabulous to watch you, the attention to detail and the relationship you have with all mechanical stuff. Pure pleasure! At the same time it’s a bit sad - when thinking of regular mechanics and their approach to work in comparison. Understandable difference of course, but still sad 😀.
Hope you become the next Iain Tyrell for BMWs. I’ll save my E39 M5 until then and have it restored by you 🙏😀.
    Respect!

Hello Hello... I am the guy that wrote you "I felt like crying" when watching the episode where you have had this engine disassembled. Than after that video I became fan/interested in your chanel so I watched a bunch of your afterwards (after that one) videos (and few from before it as well) and I "learned"/understood a lot of how you do things (or of course, at least I think I did) and also about your technical abilities. So when, few video back, maybe in the video about the ~ "retiming" or whatever that is called of the V12 (and it`s clean up), you've said you are ready to re assemble the Alpina`s one I already knew this engine is gonna be working again.
I mean In my "world" as in any other probably ~most likely what you've done about that engine someone else is capable of/will do for money... but for so much money in comparison to the rest of the things, cars and all, in general if I it ever gets to as dismantled as it did in your video it is never getting back to working ever again... It is becoming forgotten stuffs in the back and tops of shelfs and cellars, it`s being sold out for lighter/easier ~repairs of same/similar engines... it`s bolts and non worn out and cleaned clogs and stuffs, but being invested the time and effort to be as cleaned and renewed where necessary... it`s doable only with personal tools on personal time for personal use. For money you need to have so much extra money it`s not even funny and within my country the guy that will do that for you will than obtain 2 new brides and a fully functional time traveled from it`s manufacturing date Golf III.

I rebuilt my first engine a few years ago. It was an old datsun 4 banger and like you I learned a ton. It requires alot of patience and attention to details. Looks like you did a great job! That first start is nerve racking because I was questioning if I got everything right. So much can go wrong. I have no doubt yours will fire right up like mine did. Cheers from Texas!

Hello Sreten from the U.S.! Thanks to your excellent video I’m dragging today. Couldn’t stop watching and stayed up past my bedtime. You do great work and you fully deserved the beer at the end! Looking forward to your next video.

Your best video yet Sreten. Brilliant. I am a teacher here in Sydney, Australia of a secondary school subject called Engineering Studies. A lot of the Materials Science is based on the parts of a car engine and how they are made and go together. I hope you don’t mind, but this video will become compulsory viewing for the students so they can see exactly what is what. There is even an example of crevice or pitting corrosion on one of the covers I can show them. Great stuff. Lloyd.
